OBJECTIVES To study the prevalence, evolution, and clinical factors associated with acute kidney ... more OBJECTIVES To study the prevalence, evolution, and clinical factors associated with acute kidney injury in children admitted to PICUs with pediatric inflammatory multisystem syndrome temporally associated with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2. DESIGN Multicenter observational study. SETTING Fifteen PICUs across the United Kingdom. PATIENTS Patients admitted to United Kingdom PICUs with pediatric inflammatory multisystem syndrome temporally associated with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 between March 14, 2020, and May 20, 2020. INTERVENTIONS None. MEASUREMENTS AND MAIN RESULTS Deidentified data collected as part of routine clinical care were analyzed. All children were diagnosed and staged for acute kidney injury based on the level of serum creatinine above the upper limit of reference interval values according to published guidance. Severe acute kidney injury was defined as stage 2/3 acute kidney injury. Uni- and multivariable analyses were performed to study the association between demographic data, clinical features, markers of inflammation and cardiac injury, and severe acute kidney injury. Over the study period, 116 patients with pediatric inflammatory multisystem syndrome temporally associated with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 were admitted to 15 United Kingdom PICUs. Any-stage acute kidney injury occurred in 48 of 116 patients (41.4%) and severe acute kidney injury in 32 of 116 (27.6%) patients, which was mostly evident at admission (24/32, 75%). In univariable analysis, body mass index, hyperferritinemia, high C-reactive protein, Pediatric Index of Mortality 3 score, vasoactive medication, and invasive mechanical ventilation were associated with severe acute kidney injury. In multivariable logistic regression, hyperferritinemia was associated with severe acute kidney injury (compared with nonsevere acute kidney injury; adjusted odds ratio 1.04; 95% CI, 1.01-1.08; p = 0.04). Severe acute kidney injury was associated with longer PICU stay (median 5 days [interquartile range, 4-7 d] vs 3 days [interquartile range, 1.5-5 d]; p < 0.001) and increased duration of invasive mechanical ventilation (median 4 days [interquartile range, 2-6 d] vs 2 days [interquartile range, 1-3 d]; p = 0.04). CONCLUSIONS Severe acute kidney injury occurred in just over a quarter of children admitted to United Kingdom PICUs with pediatric inflammatory multisystem syndrome temporally associated with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2. Hyperferritinemia was significantly associated with severe acute kidney injury. Severe acute kidney injury was associated with increased duration of stay and ventilation. Although short-term outcomes for acute kidney injury in pediatric inflammatory multisystem syndrome temporally associated with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 appear good, long-term outcomes are unknown.

Globalization puts an impact on every society. Hence, this paper highlights the Crucial Impact of Globalization among Lepchas of North Sikkim. Lepchas are the original inhabitants of Sikkim. The Lepchas are of mongoloid stock and some anthropologist trace their origins to Mongolia or Tibet. However, the Lepchas themselves have no such history of migration in their traditional knowledge. They believe themselves to be the natives of the Sikkim and even consider Mt. Kanchenjunga as the abode of their ancestors. Globalization has put an impact on every aspect of Lepcha people. They were followers of simple tradition but due to globalization and modernization (Modernization is a by-product of Globalization) their traditions are changing and they are adapting the global ways of life which is endangering their own traditions, knowledge and values. As they have accepted several fruits of globalization with open arms hence their social life has changed a lot along with economic and political life. The change is so observable that number of traditional Lepchas has reduced significantly and they can be seen only in few areas. C disease (COVID-19) caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) cause... more C disease (COVID-19) caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) causes a milder disease in children as compared with adults. COVID-19 can lead to acute kidney injury (AKI) in critically ill patients and is a crucial prognostic marker for disease severity and mortality and, although widely variable in reports, up to 25% of the adult patients with COVID 19 may develop AKI. In children, prevalence of AKI in COVID19 is unknown. In a recent study, Stewart et al have reported a high incidence of renal dysfunction (46%) and AKI (29%) in 52 hospitalized children with COVID-19 that appears much higher than previous pediatric observations coming from China. Recently, Europe has reported a pediatric inflammatory multisystem syndrome temporally associated with SARS-CoV-2 infection (PIMS-TS) which has similar characteristics to Kawasaki disease or Toxic shock syndrome. In Stewart et al’s report, AKI was detected in 38% of critically ill children admitted to pediatric intensive care unit (14/37) and in about half of all PIMS-TS patients (46%) but in only 10% of other children without the hyperinflammatory phenotype. In essence, PIMSTS in children requiring intensive support is a significant risk factor for AKI. Multiple reasons can explain the high incidence of AKI in this population: fever leading to high insensible losses, decreased intake of fluids, diarrhea and vomiting leading to dehydration, high inflammatory markers (D-dimers, ferritin, C-reactive protein) and cardiac involvement leading to low cardiac output state. In a recently published PIMS-TS study, inflammation and shock were commonly reported with requirement of inotropic support and fluid resuscitation. All these features are well-known risk factors for development of AKI which is evident in Stewart et al’s article. The background of the work is experimental and micromechanical investigation of specimen samples ... more The background of the work is experimental and micromechanical investigation of specimen samples having notch at a particular location from the central axis on Short Beam Shear Strength (SBSS) and Flexural strength of prepared Glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) composites doped with Multi-wall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs). The GFRP used is fabricated using hand lay-up technique assisted by vacuum bagging method and is symmetrical with eight layers of 4.0 mm thickness in total. The doping wt.% of MWCNTs used were 0 (neat), 1, 2, 3 and 4. The testing was carried out in Universal Testing Machine (UTM) using ASTM D2344 and ASTM D7264 standard samples for SBSS and Flexural strength test respectively. Test results show an increase in ILSS by 207.58% and Flexural strength by 63.82% respectively of samples with notches at 3 wt.% doping of MWCNTs. From the FESEM images the failure initiation and propagation could be observed for the different tests which are investigated in this experiment.
Research on non‐invasive neuromonitoring specific to PALF is limited. This systematic review iden... more Research on non‐invasive neuromonitoring specific to PALF is limited. This systematic review identifies and synthesis the existing literature on non‐invasive approaches to monitoring for neurological sequelae in patients with PALF. A series of literature searches were performed to identify all publications pertaining to five different non‐invasive neuromonitoring modalities, in line with PRISMA guidelines. Each modality was selected on the basis of its potential for direct or indirect measurement of cerebral perfusion; studies on electroencephalographic monitoring were therefore not sought. Data were recorded on study design, patient population, comparator groups, and outcomes. A preponderance of observational studies was observed, most with a small sample size. Few incorporated direct comparisons of different modalities; in particular, comparison to invasive intracranial pressure monitoring was largely lacking. The integration of current evidence is considered in the context of the clinically significant distinctions between pediatric and adult ALF, as well as the implications for planning of future investigations to best support the evidence‐based clinical care of these patients.
Abstract In this study, the sorptive loss properties of biogenic volatile organic compounds (BVOC... more Abstract In this study, the sorptive loss properties of biogenic volatile organic compounds (BVOCs) in polyester aluminum bags were investigated as a function of storage duration. To this end, the relative recovery of gas phase standards of BVOCs, obtained via vaporization of liquid phase standards, was computed by calibrating their standards (response factors: RF) represnting each phase. Accordingly, the results indicated either slight loss (−5.59% (isoprene), −2.39% (camphene), −1.69% ((R)-(+)-limonene), −0.88% (p-cymene)) or gain (1.47% (γ-terpinene), 2.27% (α-terpinene), 2.63% (α-phellandrene), 2.73% ((+)-3-carene), 3.93% ((+)-β-pinene), and 5.98% ((+)-α-pinene)). Through comparison of the calibration results across storage time, the temporal stability of BVOCs was assessed. Longer BVOC storage time in polyester aluminum (PEA) bags lowered the relative recovery of BVOCs. The relative loss of BVOCs, if calculated in terms of mean bag standard RF ratios (relative to liquid standard) across elapsed time, decreased systematically: 0.99 ± 0.05 (0 h), 0.88 ± 0.06 (24 h), 0.66 ± 0.11 (72 h), and 0.62 ± 0.14 (120 h). It is thus recommended to complete the analysis of BVOC in PEA bags within 24 h of sample acquisition. As such, it is important to apply appropriate sampling approaches with a proper storage plan when measuring ambient BVOCs collected by bag sampling methods.

Conventional methods like plating and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) are time overriding and laborious. Fast detection of bacterial species in food is a proximate obligation to guarantee food safety. Nanotechnology has emerged as a great field in case of rapid detection of pathogens in recent years. In the present work, gold nanorods, (AuNRs) based sensor was developed for swift and sensitive detection of foodborne bacteria. AuNRs has good electro-optical properties due to its Near-Infrared (NIR) absorption and scattering in surface plasmon resonance (SPR) wavelength regions. By exploiting the sugar based adhesion properties of bacteria, the sugar capped AuNRs can be used as potential nanobiosensor to detect the food borne bacteria. Polyethylene glycol (PEG) coated AuNRs were covalently functionalized with different types of amine terminated sugar using EDC coupling reaction. The sensitivity of synthesized nanobiosensor was probed by lectin binding assay and also with food borne bacteria (Escherichia coli) by using spectrophotometric and microscopic techniques. Pseudomonas aeruginosa was also used to probe the specificity of our synthesized biosensor through lectin-sugar interaction. Due to the specific interaction of sugar coated probe with foodborne bacteria, our nanoprobe has shown significant and selective photoablation of targeted bacteria. This nanorod based nanobiosensor can be an ideal candidate for optical detection and ablation of foodborne bacteria.

The principal limitations thus far encountered in the clinical practice of probing cancer are diverse and include low sensitivity, time consumption, bulkiness, and cost. In this respect, nanomaterial (NM)‐based sensing techniques are recognized as a superior alternative to efficiently resolve such limitations. A better understanding of NM‐based sensing platforms is thus important so that these novel avenues can easily be explored for clinical applications. These platforms have the merits of high sensitivity, high specificity, rapid response, and easy‐to‐read signals. This review offers a comprehensive survey of NM‐based advanced cancer‐sensing techniques and will help the scientific community establish optimum sensing strategies based on an accurate assessment of the interactions between cancer biomarkers and NM‐based platforms.
Abstract Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) belong to a novel class of materials with several advant... more Abstract Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) belong to a novel class of materials with several advantages (e.g., ultrahigh porosity, tunable pore size distribution, convenience of synthesis, and structural tailor-ability). However, the insulating nature of MOFs is often recognized as a limiting factor in the extension of their applications, especially in electronic fields. In light of such limitations, various functional or conductive materials have been mixed/intercalated with MOFs to improve their potential for such applications (e.g., rechargeable batteries, optoelectronics, and supercapacitors). Lately, many of these composite materials have been recognized as next-generation electrodes for the development of efficient supercapacitors. In this review article, we have critically reviewed the recent advancements in supercapacitor applications of MOFs and their derived composite structures. Further, we have also discussed the application of various categories of electrolytes (e.g., aqueous, organic, ionic liquids, solid-state, and redox electrolytes) and their impacts on the development of MOF-based supercapacitors.

The flexu ral test (three point bend test) was performed on MWCNT S reinforced and MWCNT S with short carbon fiber fillers (SCFF) or hybrid reinforced GFRP using Hounsfield H50KS universal testing machine at a strain rate of 1mm/ min. The result showed that the addition of nano and macro fillers (i.e. MWCNT S and SCFF) improved flexu ral strength of GFRP laminate. This increment is more evident in the case of composite filled with MWCNT S (0.5wt %)and SCFF (0.5wt %) both.

The background of the work is experimental and micromechanical investigation of specimen samples ... more The background of the work is experimental and micromechanical investigation of specimen samples having notch at a particular location from the central axis on Short Beam Shear Strength (SBSS) and Flexural strength of prepared Glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) composites doped with Multi-wall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs). The GFRP used is fabricated using hand lay-up technique assisted by vacuum bagging method and is symmetrical with eight layers of 4.0 mm thickness in total. The doping wt.% of MWCNTs used were 0 (neat), 1, 2, 3 and 4. The testing was carried out in Universal Testing Machine (UTM) using ASTM D2344 and ASTM D7264 standard samples for SBSS and Flexural strength test respectively. Test results show an increase in ILSS by 207.58% and Flexural strength by 63.82% respectively of samples with notches at 3 wt.% doping of MWCNTs. From the FESEM images the failure initiation and propagation could be observed for the different tests which are investigated in this experiment.
Research on non‐invasive neuromonitoring specific to PALF is limited. This systematic review iden... more Research on non‐invasive neuromonitoring specific to PALF is limited. This systematic review identifies and synthesis the existing literature on non‐invasive approaches to monitoring for neurological sequelae in patients with PALF. A series of literature searches were performed to identify all publications pertaining to five different non‐invasive neuromonitoring modalities, in line with PRISMA guidelines. Each modality was selected on the basis of its potential for direct or indirect measurement of cerebral perfusion; studies on electroencephalographic monitoring were therefore not sought. Data were recorded on study design, patient population, comparator groups, and outcomes. A preponderance of observational studies was observed, most with a small sample size. Few incorporated direct comparisons of different modalities; in particular, comparison to invasive intracranial pressure monitoring was largely lacking. The integration of current evidence is considered in the context of the clinically significant distinctions between pediatric and adult ALF, as well as the implications for planning of future investigations to best support the evidence‐based clinical care of these patients.
Abstract In this study, the sorptive loss properties of biogenic volatile organic compounds (BVOC... more Abstract In this study, the sorptive loss properties of biogenic volatile organic compounds (BVOCs) in polyester aluminum bags were investigated as a function of storage duration. To this end, the relative recovery of gas phase standards of BVOCs, obtained via vaporization of liquid phase standards, was computed by calibrating their standards (response factors: RF) represnting each phase. Accordingly, the results indicated either slight loss (−5.59% (isoprene), −2.39% (camphene), −1.69% ((R)-(+)-limonene), −0.88% (p-cymene)) or gain (1.47% (γ-terpinene), 2.27% (α-terpinene), 2.63% (α-phellandrene), 2.73% ((+)-3-carene), 3.93% ((+)-β-pinene), and 5.98% ((+)-α-pinene)). Through comparison of the calibration results across storage time, the temporal stability of BVOCs was assessed. Longer BVOC storage time in polyester aluminum (PEA) bags lowered the relative recovery of BVOCs. The relative loss of BVOCs, if calculated in terms of mean bag standard RF ratios (relative to liquid standard) across elapsed time, decreased systematically: 0.99 ± 0.05 (0 h), 0.88 ± 0.06 (24 h), 0.66 ± 0.11 (72 h), and 0.62 ± 0.14 (120 h). It is thus recommended to complete the analysis of BVOC in PEA bags within 24 h of sample acquisition. As such, it is important to apply appropriate sampling approaches with a proper storage plan when measuring ambient BVOCs collected by bag sampling methods.

Conventional methods like plating and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) are time overriding and laborious. Fast detection of bacterial species in food is a proximate obligation to guarantee food safety. Nanotechnology has emerged as a great field in case of rapid detection of pathogens in recent years. In the present work, gold nanorods, (AuNRs) based sensor was developed for swift and sensitive detection of foodborne bacteria. AuNRs has good electro-optical properties due to its Near-Infrared (NIR) absorption and scattering in surface plasmon resonance (SPR) wavelength regions. By exploiting the sugar based adhesion properties of bacteria, the sugar capped AuNRs can be used as potential nanobiosensor to detect the food borne bacteria. Polyethylene glycol (PEG) coated AuNRs were covalently functionalized with different types of amine terminated sugar using EDC coupling reaction. The sensitivity of synthesized nanobiosensor was probed by lectin binding assay and also with food borne bacteria (Escherichia coli) by using spectrophotometric and microscopic techniques. Pseudomonas aeruginosa was also used to probe the specificity of our synthesized biosensor through lectin-sugar interaction. Due to the specific interaction of sugar coated probe with foodborne bacteria, our nanoprobe has shown significant and selective photoablation of targeted bacteria. This nanorod based nanobiosensor can be an ideal candidate for optical detection and ablation of foodborne bacteria.
Cancer is the second most common cause of death in the world. The principal limitations thus far ... more Cancer is the second most common cause of death in the world. The principal limitations thus far encountered in the clinical practice of probing cancer are diverse and include low sensitivity, time consumption, bulkiness, and cost. In this respect, nanomaterial (NM)‐based sensing techniques are recognized as a superior alternative to efficiently resolve such limitations. A better understanding of NM‐based sensing platforms is thus important so that these novel avenues can easily be explored for clinical applications. These platforms have the merits of high sensitivity, high specificity, rapid response, and easy‐to‐read signals. This review offers a comprehensive survey of NM‐based advanced cancer‐sensing techniques and will help the scientific community establish optimum sensing strategies based on an accurate assessment of the interactions between cancer biomarkers and NM‐based platforms.
Abstract Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) belong to a novel class of materials with several advant... more Abstract Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) belong to a novel class of materials with several advantages (e.g., ultrahigh porosity, tunable pore size distribution, convenience of synthesis, and structural tailor-ability). However, the insulating nature of MOFs is often recognized as a limiting factor in the extension of their applications, especially in electronic fields. In light of such limitations, various functional or conductive materials have been mixed/intercalated with MOFs to improve their potential for such applications (e.g., rechargeable batteries, optoelectronics, and supercapacitors). Lately, many of these composite materials have been recognized as next-generation electrodes for the development of efficient supercapacitors. In this review article, we have critically reviewed the recent advancements in supercapacitor applications of MOFs and their derived composite structures. Further, we have also discussed the application of various categories of electrolytes (e.g., aqueous, organic, ionic liquids, solid-state, and redox electrolytes) and their impacts on the development of MOF-based supercapacitors.

In this work, symmetrically designed glass fiber co mposites with epoxy matrices modified with mu... more In this work, symmetrically designed glass fiber co mposites with epoxy matrices modified with mult iwall carbon nanotubes (MWCNT S)and short carbon fiber fillers (SCFF) have been manufactured using hand layup technique assisted by press molding machine. The flexu ral test (three point bend test) was performed on MWCNT S reinforced and MWCNT S with short carbon fiber fillers (SCFF) or hybrid reinforced GFRP using Hounsfield H50KS universal testing machine at a strain rate of 1mm/ min. The result showed that the addition of nano and macro fillers (i.e. MWCNT S and SCFF) improved flexu ral strength of GFRP laminate. This increment is more evident in the case of composite filled with MWCNT S (0.5wt %)and SCFF (0.5wt %) both.
