This study was conducted to assess the effectiveness of start-ups in alleviating unemployment amo... more This study was conducted to assess the effectiveness of start-ups in alleviating unemployment among the youth in Tanzania: A case of Kilimanjaro region. This study involved three questions which were: What are the business start-ups in Kilimanjaro region? To what extent have the start-ups effectively contributed to unemployment alleviation among the youths in Kilimanjaro region? What are the challenges facing start-ups in addressing unemployment in Kilimanjaro region? The study was guided by one theory, which is Classical Theory of Employment. The study employed mixed research design where by the targeted population were the employers and employees of the start-ups in Kilimanjaro region. The study involved the sample of 70 respondents, whereby 9 employees and 1 employer or start-up owner from each of the selected start-ups in Kilimanjaro region. Questionnaires, and interview guide will be used to collect data from the respondents where by the questionnaires were for the employees while the interview guide were used for the employers. The collected data was analyzed in terms of frequency and percentage by the help of a computer software, statistical package for social sciences (SPSS) version 22 and was presented using tables and percentage. Quantitative data will be analyzed using statistical package for social science and the results were presented using frequency tables, and percentages to make meaningful conclusions. The interview guide and questionnaires provided qualitative data, which was presented using direct quotations and narration. The data was analyzed to identify themes related to the research questions. The instrument used in the study were validated by an expert in research and methodology from MWECAU. The research aimed to contribute to the existing body of knowledge and improve the quality of education, particularly in business studies. The study findings will play a crucial role in promoting the development of positive values and attitudes towards innovation, creativity and investment. Additionally, the results will assist policymakers in making well-informed decisions. Moreover, the study can aid in the enhancement of teacher training programs by identifying the specific skills and knowledge that teachers require to effectively nurture entrepreneurship and start-up skills among the students.
The wind speed data of Jos have been shown to be either gamma or normally distributed. The wind i... more The wind speed data of Jos have been shown to be either gamma or normally distributed. The wind is available and could be used for both residential and large scale power generation. At respective hub heights of 15m and 100m, at least 23% and 40% of Iskra AT5-1 and Micon NM 82 wind turbines installed capacities can averagely be generated respectively. A Micon NM 82 installed at a height of 100m in Jos can service about 210 homes each consuming at most 3kW of electrical power. The site is therefore good and the performance of the best two wind turbines attractive for investors.
