But these centers are on the verge of transformation, as a result of global growth and technological advances. The growing population is pushing the boundaries of urban settlements, thereby increasing the need for technology to address this challenge. At this point, the concept of "smart cities" is gaining importance. The possibilities offered by technology have the potential to increase sustainability and efficiency. Especially AIbased applications are thought to have a direct impact on urban social life while being integrated into the complex structure of cities. But this rapid development of technology brings with it uncertainties and concerns. Interference by artificial intelligence, in terms of privacy in personal life and social balance, is a subject of debate. The study aims to reveal how smart cities contribute to sustainability and efficiency through technological applications. In this context, the aim is to explore the smart city applications of the Metropolitan Municipality of Izmir. To reach this target, a literature scan was first conducted on the definition of the concept of smart cities, then the relevant practices of the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality were examined using the content analysis method. It is hoped that the study will contribute to detecting the power of technology to transform cities and to testifying to the applicable/sustainable urban practices that local governments are implementing.
