There is, however, a dearth of information on how well MFBs in Nigeria have adopted BDA. The present study investigated the level of adoption of big data analytics (BDA) by MFBs in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, Nigeria. Using a descriptive survey design, the study collected data from twenty-eight licensed microfinance banks in the metropolis. Data was analyzed using Microsoft Excel 2019 and Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) Version 20. Findings, amongst others, revealed that the BDA adoption index of MFBs in Ibadan is low (1.93 on a scale of 1 to 4). It was recommended that the Central Bank of Nigeria could make policies that would promote, encourage, and mandate proper big data adoption among MFBs in Nigeria.

Methodologies of profiling like any other authorship analysis consist majorly of feature extraction and application of analytical techniques. Choice of feature sets and analytical techniques may significantly affect the performance of authorship analysis. Hence, a need for methods that can help improve on the success of authorship profiling undertakings. The present study sought through experiments, the writing features, analytical technique and number of class labels that can help improve the effectiveness of profiling the country of affiliation of authors of online messages. The experiment showed that the most effective model was achieved when all feature set types in our study were used within a two-class dataset that was analysed with the Neural Network (Multilayer Perceptron) machine learning scheme. The study recommends a need for further studies in finding models that can maximize both effectiveness and efficiency in profiling the authorship of online messages.

Three public libraries that have adopted BiblioCommons’ OPAC system—Edmonton Public Library, Seattle Public Library, and Christchurch City Libraries—were selected for the study. In the OPAC of each of these libraries, fifty queries were searched using tags as well as keyword and subject as access point. The results of the study showed that a large number of items in public libraries are still not being tagged, while for those items that have been tagged, the tags were mostly made up of one or two words and were subject related. In terms of effectiveness, the precision level of a tag search was found acceptable and somewhat comparable to the precision levels of keyword and subject searches, but of the three access points, tags retrieved the fewest number of items. Le but de cette étude était d’étudier les caractéristiques et l’efficacit...

Despite this, gender divergence in research productivity of academics coupled with under-representation of women in science has been reported to beset female's scholarly activities. Previous studies provide differing results, hence a need for each academic institution to know its status for the purpose of formulating appropriate policy towards achieving gender equity without trading off productivity. Using a scientometric method, the present study investigates the representation and research productivity of male and female lecturers in the Faculty of Science, University of Ibadan. The study shows that while female lecturers are significantly less represented in the faculty and publish in journals having lower impact factors, their research productivity in terms of number of publications and citation impact are significantly not different from those of their male counterparts.

Using two web diagnostic tools, SEOptimer and W3C Markup Validation Service, a total of 213 sites were evaluated in terms of six performance indicators: search engine optimisation (SEO), usability, operational performance, social media integration, security, and HTML validation. The weakest performance across the sites of both polytechnics and colleges of education was found to be with respect to social media integration, with the vast majority of sites in both categories making no use of social media. The other two indicators against which sites in both categories of institutions tended to perform poorly were SEO and operational performance. The two areas where the sites in both institutional categories generally scored well were usability and HTML validation. Meanwhile, for the security indicator, the performance was highly variable among both polytechnic and college of education sites, with significant numbers of both strong and weak scores for sites. It was also found that polytechnic sites outperformed college of education sites on SEO to a statistically significant degree (bearing in mind that both categories of sites were weak in this area). It was also found that, among the polytechnic sites, the sites of the state government-owned institutions outperformed, to a statistically significant degree, the sites of the privately owned institutions in their operational performance measure.

It has positively transformed the way the world operates; however, it has also provided a means by which cybercrimes are perpetuated. As people use the internet, they also become more susceptible to internet risk. A number of previous studies have reported adolescents' susceptibility and coping skills within and outside Nigeria. There is, however, a dearth of information on cybercrime vulnerability and exposure among adolescents in Osun State, Nigeria. This present study adapts the routine activity theory to investigate the cybercrime exposure of secondary school students in Osogbo, the capital of Osun State, Nigeria. This study adopted a survey research method. The study revealed considerable levels of cybercrime exposure among public senior secondary school students in Osogbo. It was recommended amongst others that the students should be enlightened on positive use of the internet in order to militate against harm by cybercrime perpetrators.

In view of the dearth of studies on these issues in Nigeria, this study explored the levels and variations in the scientific literacy, attitude to science, and persuasiveness of scientific compared to cultural knowledge in some personal decision making contexts of postgraduate students in a Nigerian university. The study collected data through a designed and validated questionnaire administered on 315 postgraduate students in the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. Findings among others are that attitude to science was very highly positive, religious information had slightly stronger persuasiveness in decision making for the students than scientific information, and much more than cultural information. Knowledge of scientific methodology, and critical thinking behavior have positive influence on students’ persuasiveness of science while cultural belief has negative predictive influence on their persuasiveness of science. The study concludes, amongst others, that students’ attitude to science and their persuasiveness of science can be influenced by their levels of knowledge of science methodology and cultural belief, though in an opposing manner. This implies that publics’ understandanding of the persuasiveness of science could be improved by variations in their levels of knowledge of science methodology and cultural belief, amongst other variables. The study therefore, recommends that scientists should begin to communicate science methods to the public through public-friendly and informal means while also subjecting some of the cultural beliefs to scientific tests and communicating their outcomes to the public.

While these people derive numerous benefits from their use of this technology, they are also faced with a challenge of being exposed to many cyber risks. Nigeria is a developing country with a teeming population of adolescents who are regular users of the Internet, but with inadequate research on adolescent Internet safety. There is therefore, a need to conduct studies on child online risks in Nigeria, to help evaluate the enormity of child online abuses. The present study investigated Internet use and cyber-risk prevalence among four hundred secondary school students from a Nigerian state capital. This study employed a survey research method. The findings reveal that students in selected secondary schools in Ibadan metropolis are regular users of the Internet with considerable exposure to different cyber-risk behaviours. Male students are significantly more susceptible to cyberbullying than female students while public school students are more susceptible to cyberbullying and sexual solicitation risks than private school students. The study amongst others, recommends that Information Technology professionals and educators should intentionally get involved in enlightening students on the importance and means of ensuring safety while they use the Internet.

As the Internet offers a wide range of benefits to these ones, so does it expose them to possible various risks and harm. Researchers in different countries across the world have engaged in the production of relevant research-based knowledge in order to make the virtual world a safe place for the younger ones. However, while studies have been carried out on the subject of Internet risk among children and adolescents, there is a dearth of information on the assessment of research activities across different parts of the world. The present study employed Bibliometric techniques to determine research productivity patterns across the different regions and countries of the world. All relevant publications indexed in Google Scholar were collected between November and December, 2018. The findings of the study reveal that while countries in the American and European regions of the world have been very productive in researching on the subject, the same is not the case with their African counterparts.

These same technologies have been exploited by unethical hands in what is now known as cybercrime. Cybercrime is of different types but of importance to the present study is the 419 Scam because it is generally (yet controversially) linked with a particular country Nigeria. Previous research that attempted to unravel the controversy applied the Internet Protocol address tracing technique. The present study applied the statistical language modelling technique to investigate the propensity of Nigeria's involvement in authoring these fraudulent mails. Using a hierarchical modelling approach proposed in the study, 28.85% of anonymous electronic scam mails were classified as being from Nigeria among four other countries. The study concluded that linguistic cues have potentials of being used for investigating transnational digital breaches and that electronic scam mail problem cannot be pinned d...
