This study examined the nature of the interactions between fragility and macroeconomic outcomes in ECOWAS. This is despite the backdrop of evidences showing that macroeconomic policies sufficiently drive macroeconomic outcomes. Meanwhile sub-Saharan African countries have taken the backbench on almost any standard measures of macroeconomic performance within the last two decades. Contemporaneously, the region dominates the top 50 percentiles of ranking on almost all dimension and indicators of fragility. Using a panel data for the 15 countries covering the period between 1995-2016 and employing the Panel Vector Autoregressive (PVAR) estimation techniques, the findings from this work show that the seven macroeconomic outcomes used in the study respond to fragility negatively and that fragility accounts for major sources of shocks in these economies. The preoccupation of this study is to investigate whether women are financially excluded from formal financial services in Lagos State. Four local government areas (Ikeja, Ifako- Ijaiye, Somolu-Bariga and Agege) were selected for the empirical enquiry. Perceptions of women about formal financial services were collected by means of questionnaires. Of the 280 questionnaires sent out, 202 were recovered and the data was analyzed using descriptive analyses techniques. Two major findings are reported:(i) women are excluded from financial services mostly because of their lower level of education which thus exclude them from being able to utilize financial products such as mobile and internet banking; and (ii)the older the respondents get, the lower their willingness to make use of internet or mobile banking, as the emergence of new products in that line is too sophisticated for them to understand, thus, they experience technical exclusion from financial services. Mal de Debarquement Syndrome (MDS) is a rare, understudied, underdiagnosed, and self-limiting con... more Mal de Debarquement Syndrome (MDS) is a rare, understudied, underdiagnosed, and self-limiting condition. Etiology and incidence are unknown. It is characterized by abnormal sensation of motion/balance reported after travel by air, land, and sea; being reexposed to motion/activity relieves it. Symptoms may last from minutes to years. Workup though required reveals no findings; it is a diagnosis of exclusion. While no efficacious treatment exists, amitriptyline and benzodiazepines as well as supportive therapy have proved to be useful. We have described a 40-year-old Caucasian female who presented for the evaluation of persistent rocking and swaying sensation after a ship cruise which lasted for one week. Patient was treated with benzodiazepines after extensive workup and is now stable. A high index of suspicion is required to make a diagnosis.
Post-consumption environmental impact has become an important issue all over the world. Waste gen... more Post-consumption environmental impact has become an important issue all over the world. Waste generation and disposal is a basic part of any developing or industrial nation. Waste volumes are predicted to continue rising unless action is taken in order to keep down the problem. This study investigates the impact of recycling on environmental quality and revenue generation in University of Lagos, Nigeria, using descriptive analysis and two linear regression models' analyses. Questionnaires were distributed to staff, students and residents of the University, as well as, an interview conducted with a resource person from the recycling unit of the University. The duo analysis employed shows that recycling has a significant impact on revenue generation and environmental quality. Though, it discovers that level of sophistication of technology used has no impact on revenue generated; also, level of income of the people has no significant impact on environmental quality. In this light, the study recommends that the university management should increase its awareness of the importance of recycling and also provide more disposal bin spots on campus, so as to increase its revenue generation capacity. Furthermore, to spur economic growth while ensuring an excellent environmental quality, there is need for strong institutions to enact effective policy, rules and regulation that will support sustainable development. To this end, we also recommend that government and concerned authorities lend supportive hands to individuals and establishments interested in promoting the recycling process.

Specifically, this study aimed to ascertain the relationship between ownership concentration, board gender diversity, sustainability committee and carbon emission disclosure of eighteen (18) quoted manufacturing firms in Nigeria. This study employed expost facto research design. Pearson coefficient correlation and Panel Least Square (PLS) regression analysis were employed via E-View 10.0 statistical software. The study found that ownership concentration, board gender diversity and sustainability committee have a significant positive relationship with carbon emission disclosure of quoted manufacturing firms in Nigeria at 5% level of significance respectively. It was recommended amongst others that firms should constitute sustainability committee in order to maximize shareholders' wealth and gain competitive advantage.

Curcumin is the active ingredient in turmeric, a medicinal plant used as a food additive and preservative in Asian countries. This study examined the effects of curcumin on the locomotive activity of intoxicated male mice. 30 mice were divided into 3 groups and used in this experiment. Curcumin was administered for 14 days, followed by intoxication with 50% ethanol of 0.1 ml/kg and locomotive activity was assessed. Lipid peroxidation and antioxidant enzymes activity were also assessed from the brain tissue following assessment of locomotive activities. Curcumin increased (p<0.05) the time spent on the linear wire and caused a significant decrease (p<0.05) in number of times the mice attempted to reach their tail. Beam walk time following use also showed a significant decrease (p < 0.05) when compared to both positive and negative Control groups. Motor activities were also improved with decreased rearing time following. Antioxidant enzymes catalase and glutathione peroxidase showed significant (p<0.05) increase in activity following curcumin administration when compared to the negative control. This study showed considerable evidence that short-term curcumin supplementation can exert anti-intoxication effects.
