Having a complexity in teaching English is a customary hitch since English contains of some skill... more Having a complexity in teaching English is a customary hitch since English contains of some skills and components driving them confused how and what to teach as the starting point. Furthermore, the first and most important thing to do by a professional teacher is knowing students' interest in learning English. It is why this research is carried out-to know what actually the students really crave to learn and acquire their English as foreign language; therefore, to find out the solution of this vague question, this descriptive qualitative research involved 32 students at the first year of English students of University of Islam Malang as the participant since they are the freshmen who start to learn the more specific entities in English. They were assigned to fill the questionnaires about learning concentration of English. The obtained result is that the students are interested more in learning vocabulary, listening, pronunciation, speaking, and being corrected by the teacher to expand their English aptitude. As a closer, this study provides method to impart the English knowledge that can be implemented by teachers.

Unfortunately, make a product of writing become problematic way since student does not know how to write well. Therefore, the students have master the step of writing process in order to get good writing such as prewriting, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing. The aim of this descriptive qualitative research is to investigate the teaching of writing especially in students’ writing process in SMP and SMA. This data of research were taken from three schools in Malang: MAN 03 Malang, SMA Islam Nusantara, and SMP Wahid Hasyim with 3 teachers come from 3 classes of each school. The data were obtained through video, observation sheets, lesson plan, and interview, and analyzed by comparing and contrasting all the research instruments. The findings of this study interpret that treating the students by using writing process will improve students’ writing skill. The comparison between teaching of writing in SMP and SMA are different in giving the topic. Thus, collaborative writing in writing process has also a big part of the teaching writing. The purpose of this study was to investigate a correlation between Indonesian students’ learning ... more The purpose of this study was to investigate a correlation between Indonesian students’ learning strategies and their listening achievement at the first year of English students of University of Islam Malang. In doing so, 40 students joined in this research, and they were selected by random sampling method (class D= 27, class E= 13. They were asked to do a test a month before giving them a questionnaire. Strategy Inventory for Language Learning (SILL) questionnaire was used to get information about their learning strategy. In the SILL, language learning strategies are grouped into six categories for assessment: (a) memory strategies (9 items), (b) cognitive strategies (14 items), (c) compensation strategies (6 items), (d) metacognitive strategies (9 items), (e) affective strategies (6 items), and (f) social strategies (6 items). The collected data were analyzed through Pearson Correlation formula the result of which revealed that the correlation coefficient turned out to be negative correlation, and there was no correlation between Indonesian students’ learning strategies and their listening achievement at the first year of English students’ of University of Islam Malang (r = -.009, p= 957> 0.05).
