HOARD OF SILVER COINS AND PAYMENT INGOTS OF THE 14TH
CENTURY FROM THE RYLSKY DISTRICT OF THE KURSK REGION
The proposed publication puts into scientific circulation a hoard hidden in the second half of the 80s of the 14th century on the territory of the Kursk region (Russia) in the basin of the Seim River (the Seim region). The hoard contains, as well as silver Juchid coins, payment ingots with Russian stamps and Russian graffiti, and moreover, a record number of coins minted in the Severian principalities. The hoard includes Severian
coins of all three typological groups (with Cyrillic legends, with “prince’s sign” and two-sided imitations of the Golden Horde silver coins).

TO THE QUESTION ON THE ISSUER OF SEVERIAN IMITATIONS WITH SO-CALLED “PRINCE`S SIGN”
This publication acquaints the readers with new results of the work continued by the authors to study the group of Severian imitations with the “prince`s sign”. Compared to the previous article on this topic, the number of stamps, for which graphic reconstruction of impressions was performed, has doubled. The main block of the scheme of technological stamp links is supplemented and united with two previously isolated blocks. Now it includes 20 stamps, and one of them bears a significant resemblance to the stamp used when minting coins with the name of Dmitry-Koribut Olgerdovich. The authors claim this fact to be another argument in favor of the possibility of attributing to Koribut of the coins minted with the use of the stamps from the main block. The authors also draw attention to the potential for expanding the base of the Severian imitations at the expense of the coins minted with the stamps not being a part of the main subgroup, united by technological links. The publication provides the schemes of the identified technological links and graphic reconstructions of imprints for 47 stamps of the coins belonging to the studied group, 5 stamps of Dmitry-Koribut Olgerdovich and 4 stamps of the isolated block. There is also included a revised and supplemented scheme of links for the 51 stamps from the subgroup of bilateral imitations. For 30 stamps of this publication, the graphic reconstruction of imprints was performed for the first time. The total number of coins considered by the authors and minted by the stamps that appear in the illustrations, is equal to 509 copies.

Although this group was relatively well-studied by the researchers, the authors managed to complement the main die linkage cluster and notice some new ones. Here, the authors give graphic reconstructions for 23 stamps of the group (for 14 of them — for the fi rst time) that unite in 21 combination. h e number of coins, mentioned and described by authors, is 84.

The coin die for imitative coinage and two other tools, found in 2015 in Kharkiv oblast of Ukraine, are published. A review of previously published dies unearthed in the Golden Horde territories is given. It is concluded that all known similar coin dies were made of bronze, their height ranges from 12 to 31 mm. The die from Kharkov region has on its working surface an imitation of Arabic inscription in three lines and according to its technical characteristics it differs from all previously known — it is made of iron, its height — 38 mm; presumably it was used as the lower stamp to mint coinage. The second iron die, found with above mentioned, is unique and has no analogues. Authors assume that this die was used to place countermarks on coins. The third tool of the complex was also made of iron and possibly belonged to a jeweler.

Until recently, this group remained the least studied among the three typological groups of coins of the Sеverskyi coinage. The authors have connected several die-link junctions of these coins previously identified by other researchers into a single graphic scheme and substantially complemented it. Now, among the third group of Sеverskyi coinage, a large subgroup is distinguished, united not only by technological and stylistic features, but also by die-links. At the present stage of the research, this subgroup includes 48 dies, forming 53 combinations. The total number of examined coins of this subgroup numbers 250 items.

The authors analyze historical and numismatic publications on the topic and publish (mostly for the first time) numismatic sources of the reign of Ghiyas ad-Din b. Shadibek. The article contains photographs, graphic reconstructions of stamps, recon-
structions and translation of legends of this khan’s coins, indicating the place of minting on their reverse – Bolghar, Il-ui-Muazzam, Mahmud Bek-Bazar, Ordu-Bazar, Sarai, Haji-Tarkhan. Dangs with Giyas ad-Din II’s name are made of low-grade billon (often silver plated) with a large number of stamps, which allows interpreting their emission as ex-
traordinary (military). The name of Ghiyas ad-Din Khan could be written differently on his coins. It is impossible to agree with the version that Ghiyas ad-Din Sar (?) Khan was the new Golden Horde emitent of the fifteenth century.
Numismatic sources make it possible to consider Ghiyas ad-Din II not as a great and influential feudal lord of the Middle Volga region, but as the Golden Horde khan who at some point very successfully fought for supreme power and controlled vast territories of the state.
