Who is the "other" that characterizes someone as "different", is an essential question often posed to children but also to adults? Otherness is reflected in every social aspect, especially in the context of a multicultural society, which is constantly altered to adapt to the persistent diversity. The role of children's literature is crucial in shaping the perceptions of its young readers, as one of the main goals of literature is its social effect. This article will present versions of diversity in children's illustrated books and how they are interpreted by children. Last but not least is the smooth integration of a marginalized child into society.
