Fostering engagement into one’s workforce is not a simple, one-dimensional task, but rather entails a multiplicity of factors and a conglomeration of approaches. The term ‘Employee Engagement’ relates to the level and breadth of an employee's commitment and connection to an organization and is influenced by a variety of factors such as organisational culture and communication schemata, managerial styles and leadership types, general policies and practices within the workplace. To this end, the aim of this paper is to introduce a strong connection between engagement and self-directedness by melding it with psychologically, educationally and strategically elaborated notions of facilitation (Knowles, 1975), self-actualization (Maslow, 1943) and autonomy (Lopes, Calapez and Lopes, 2015) along with operational...

Distant or hybrid work is no longer a novelty. With increasing remote work becoming a norm, the need for knowledge management (KM) is more evident than ever before. In an era of digitalisation, information technology, social networking and artificial intelligence (AI) software, where the active workforce and knowledge capital of an organization is comprised by four different generations (Baby Boomers, Generation X, Millennials and Generation Z) the organizational memory and intellectual capacity have to be readdressed. Sustaining a long-term, competitive advantage entails, after all, knowledge management efficacy. How KM processes (knowledge creation, sharing/transfer, acquisition, storage/retrieval and application) are administered and organised is important. For the above reasons,...

The instrument assessed six dimensions of job satisfaction: ''working conditions,'' ''pay,'' ''promotion,'' ''job itself,'' ''supervision,'' and ''organization as a whole.'' Greek academic librarians were most satisfied with ''job itself,'' ''supervision,'' and ''working conditions'' and less satisfied with ''pay'' and ''promotion.'' Prior working experience contributed negatively to the prediction of satisfaction with ''working conditions,'' ''supervision,'' and ''organization as a whole,'' whereas participation in decision-making positively influenced ''job itself'' and ''organization as a whole.'' These findings are in accordance with prior studies and can be particularly useful for providing a comparative and comprehensive understanding of job satisfaction in the library profession.

The Employee Satisfaction Inventory (ESI) was used to measure job satisfaction while Rizzo, House & Lirtzman (1970) Role-Measurement Scale was used (for the ambiguity). Also included in the questionnaire were questions related to some demographic characteristics such as gender, age, experience, etc. Statistical analysis and data processing was done with the help of the SPSS v. 23. Results showed that employees were relatively satisfied with their work and experienced low level of role ambiguity. No statistical significant differences found between gender, age, years of experience and job satisfaction among employees. The results also showed that there was a negative relationship statistically significant between job satisfaction and role ambiguity, particularly with promotion, job itself, supervisor and the organization as a whole aspect of their job.

Its unique influence on individuals' motivation is to enhance members' commitment, which acts jointly with instrumental motivation to influence individuals' behavior. Conditions affecting the relative weight of cultural-normative and instrumental processes in determining behavior are discussed.
