Materyal ve Metot: Çalışma, İzmir’de farklı sosyodemografik özelliklere sahip dört lisedeki 14-20 yaş arasındaki 600’ü kız, 445’i erkek ve altısı cinsiyet belirtmemiş toplam 1,051 öğrenci ile gerçekleştirilmiştir. Çalışmada veri toplam aracı olarak DÖÖ ve Ana-Baba ve Ergen İlişki Envanteri kullanılmıştır. 20 maddeli DÖÖ, ebeveyni idealleştirmeme, ebeveyne bağımlı olmama, ebeveyni insan olarak algılama ve bireyleşme alt ölçeklerini kapsamaktadır. Bulgular: Ölçeğin içtutarlık katsayısı 0,78 ve Guttman iki yarım test güvenirliği 0,79, üç hafta arayla yapılan test-tekrar test güvenirlik katsayısı 0,65 olarak bulunmuştur. The aim of this study is to determine functioning of adults with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASDs)... more The aim of this study is to determine functioning of adults with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASDs) diagnosed in childhood and also depression and burnout levels among their parents. 261 adults with ASDs and their parents were recruited for the study. Both parents completed the Beck Depression and Maslach Burnout Inventories and reported the functioning of their adult offspring with ASDs. Only 5.4 % of our sample reported “good” or “very good” outcome. The most common psychiatric comorbidities were intellectual disabilities and attention-deficit/ hyperactivity disorder. Maternal burnout and depression scores were significantly elevated compared to those of fathers. There is an undeniable urgent need for more research to identify the needs of adults and families suffering from ASD.
ABSTRACT "Activation syndrome" represents a cluster of symptoms of excessive emotional ... more ABSTRACT "Activation syndrome" represents a cluster of symptoms of excessive emotional arousal or behavioral activation, which emerges after the first few weeks of antidepressant treatment or a dose increase and resolves with dose reduction or cessation of treatment. It was reported after treatment with selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor and serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor group of agents, but no case of activation syndrome has been reported with the norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor group. Atomoxetine is a norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor and nonstimulant and is used to manage symptoms of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Atomoxetine-related symptoms of mania and hypomania were reported in literature previously. Here, we report a case of activation syndrome arising after atomoxetine (ATX) dose titration in a prepubertal male child with ADHD. Differentiation of activation symptoms from mania/hypomania symptoms after treatment with ATX may be important for the clinicians to manage the adverse effects and understand the risk factors behind activation syndrome with use of ATX in children and adolescents diagnosed with ADHD.
Objective: We aimed to investigate the serum concentrations of vitamin B12, folate and homocystei... more Objective: We aimed to investigate the serum concentrations of vitamin B12, folate and homocysteine in children diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) or autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and healthy controls. Materials and methods: Serum vitamin B12, folate and homocysteine concentrations were measured in 118 children (48 children diagnosed with ADHD, 35 children diagnosed with ASD and 35 healthy controls). Symptom severity in the ADHD and ASD groups was evaluated by the Childhood Autism Rating Scale and Turgay-DSM-IV-Based Screening and Assessment Scale for Disruptive Behavior Disorders. Multivariate analysis of covariance was used to evaluate the effects of diagnosis and gender on biochemical parameters. Results: The ADHD and ASD groups and the healthy controls differed significantly regarding vitamin B12 and homocysteine concentrations, but not folate levels. Patients with ASD had the lowest vitamin B12 and the highest homocysteine levels. Vitamin B12 levels correlated negatively with hyperactivity and/orimpulsivity and oppositionality symptoms in children with ADHD. There were no relationships between psychometric evaluations and laboratory measurements in children with ASD. Gender did not affect vitamin concentrations. Conclusion: Previous studies found that vitamin B12 was reduced while homocysteine was elevated among patients with ADHD and ASDs. Our results also support those reported previously. Oppositionality and hyperactivity and/orimpulsivity may be related to vitamin B12 and homocysteine levels in children with ADHD. Further studies are required to define the role of these parameters and effects on the etiology and clinical manifestations of ASD and ADHD.

Abstract Aim We aimed to determine traumatic events, mental health problems and predictors of PTS... more Abstract Aim We aimed to determine traumatic events, mental health problems and predictors of PTSD in a sample of conditional refugee children. Methods The sociodemographic features, chief complaints, traumatic experiences and psychiatric diagnoses according to DSM-5 were evaluated retrospectively. Results 20.7% (n = 70) of children experienced the armed conflict or exposed to firefights at their country of origin. Most common diagnoses were anxiety disorders (n = 82, 24.3%), major depressive disorder (n = 52, 15.4%) and PTSD (n = 43, 12.7%). Age, number of traumatic experiences, explosion and sexual violence are the most important predictors for PTSD. Conclusions Our results suggest that the number of traumas exposed as well as their nature predicted PTSD diagnosis. Refugee children have increased risk for psychiatric problems after migration and resettlement underlining the importance of an adequate follow-up for mental health and ensuring social support networks.

Yöntem: 12-18 yaş aralığında 84 kız ergenin (Doğu Anadolu illeri n=34, Batı illeri n=50) intihar davranışının şiddeti Columbia İntihar Şiddetini Değerlendirme Ölçeği ile belirlenmiştir. Katılımcıların Toplumsal Cinsiyet Algısı Ölçeği (TCAÖ), Çocukluk Çağı Travmaları Ölçeği (ÇÇTÖ) ve Beck Depresyon Envanteri (BDE)'ni doldurmaları, annelerinin ise TCAÖ'yü tamamlaması sağlanmıştır. Bulgular: Doğu illerinde ikamet eden gençler batıdakilere göre daha fazla oranda yüksek intihar şiddeti kümesinde sınıflandırılmışlardı (X 2 (1)=6.215, p=0.01), bu gençlerin TCAÖ skorları daha düşük (U=473.500, p=0.006); BDE (t=-2.081, p=0.04) ve ÇÇTÖ-duygusal ihmal skorları (U=537.500, p=0.03) daha yüksekti. TCAÖ skoru, ÇÇTÖduygusal ihmal skoru (rho=-0.240, p=0.03), katılımcıların annelerinin eğitim düzeyi (rho=0.282, p=0.001) ve annelerin TCAÖ skoru (rho=0.430, p<0.001) korelasyon göstermekteydi. Lojistik regresyon analizine göre yüksek şiddetli intihar kümesine dahil olmayı yordayan tek anlamlı değişken anne-TCAÖ skoruydu (B=-0.051, p=0.02). Sonuç: Depresif kız ergenlerin ve annelerinin cinsiyet eşitsizlik algısı, bu gençlerin daha yüksek şiddette intihar davranışında bulunması ile ilişkiliydi. Daha geleneksel toplumsal rollerin olduğu ailelerde yetişmek, bu gençlerin daha fazla duygusal ihmale uğramalarına, daha şiddetli depresif belirti ve intihar davranışı göstermelerine neden olmuş olabilir.

Tremor as a symptom can develop due to the use of both valproic acid and aripiprazole which is usually manifested as symmetrical.When valproate and ari-piprazole are administered together, there may be some change in plasma concentrations of aripiprazole and its metabolite but this change is thought to be related to the displacement in plasma proteins thus effect of both drugs on changes to steady state levels is very small and not clinically significant We report the case of a 15-year-old girl is that asymmetric tremor, which occurs after valproic acid is added to treatment while using aripiprazole, and the disappearance of asymmetric tremor after reducing the dose of aripiprazole.

BACKGROUND The aim of this study is to determine the factors affecting early and delayed disclosu... more BACKGROUND The aim of this study is to determine the factors affecting early and delayed disclosure time of child sexual abuse (CSA). Early disclosure of CSA is considered to be crucial for child protection. METHODS A total of 125 sexually abused children and adolescents, who had been evaluated by child adolescent psychiatry and forensic medicine specialists, were enrolled in this study. Files of medical and criminal data were analyzed retrospectively and synchronously by child adolescent psychiatrist and forensic medicine specialist authors who had evaluated victims using the standard procedures of Düzce University Faculty of Medicine Child Abuse Assessment Council. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were conducted to evaluate predictors. RESULTS Delayed disclosers were found to be younger than early disclosers. Among the delayed disclosers, there were also more victims of intrafamilial CSA, fewer victims of penetration, and fewer voluntary disclosures. Multivariate logistic regression revealed that "younger age" and "intrafamilial CSA" were independent predictors of delayed disclosure of CSA. CONCLUSIONS The results of our study contribute to an understanding of the factors related to delayed disclosure and underline the need for age-appropriate education and prevention programs targeted to increase the awareness of sexual abuse, particularly intrafamilial abuse, and to promote voluntary disclosure in children and adolescents, especially for younger age groups. The education of potential recipients of CSA and further education of professionals is extremely important in order to support children and adolescents' voluntary disclosure of CSA.

Antipsychotic drugs, mood stabilizers drugs are often used in this group for behavioral problems. Tremor as a symptom can develop due to the use of both valproic acid and aripiprazole which is usually manifested as symmetrical.When valproate and ari-piprazole are administered together, there may be some change in plasma concentrations of aripiprazole and its metabolite but this change is thought to be related to the displacement in plasma proteins thus effect of both drugs on changes to steady state levels is very small and not clinically significant We report the case of a 15-year-old girl is that asymmetric tremor, which occurs after valproic acid is added to treatment while using aripiprazole, and the disappearance of asymmetric tremor after reducing the dose of aripiprazole.

BACKGROUND The aim of this study is to determine the factors affecting early and delayed disclosu... more BACKGROUND The aim of this study is to determine the factors affecting early and delayed disclosure time of child sexual abuse (CSA). Early disclosure of CSA is considered to be crucial for child protection. METHODS A total of 125 sexually abused children and adolescents, who had been evaluated by child adolescent psychiatry and forensic medicine specialists, were enrolled in this study. Files of medical and criminal data were analyzed retrospectively and synchronously by child adolescent psychiatrist and forensic medicine specialist authors who had evaluated victims using the standard procedures of Düzce University Faculty of Medicine Child Abuse Assessment Council. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were conducted to evaluate predictors. RESULTS Delayed disclosers were found to be younger than early disclosers. Among the delayed disclosers, there were also more victims of intrafamilial CSA, fewer victims of penetration, and fewer voluntary disclosures. Multivariate logistic regression revealed that "younger age" and "intrafamilial CSA" were independent predictors of delayed disclosure of CSA. CONCLUSIONS The results of our study contribute to an understanding of the factors related to delayed disclosure and underline the need for age-appropriate education and prevention programs targeted to increase the awareness of sexual abuse, particularly intrafamilial abuse, and to promote voluntary disclosure in children and adolescents, especially for younger age groups. The education of potential recipients of CSA and further education of professionals is extremely important in order to support children and adolescents' voluntary disclosure of CSA.
