The present dissertation entails a critical review of the way in which archaeologists explore and... more The present dissertation entails a critical review of the way in which archaeologists explore and interpret the function and meaning of Maya architecture, especially of the buildings denominated as 'temples'. Throughout a historical revision of the concept of 'temple', it could be said that its use has been so ingrained in the archaeological practice that it has not been questioned. It is commonly accepted as a paradigm but the parameters established for the identification of these kinds of buildings is just based on epigraphic sources or in formal attributes. In consequence, I propose within this work some alternative views with respect to the conventions managed by the Maya specialists to classify buildings and to the theoretical grounds that lead the interpretation of these spaces.

Síntesis sobre los resultados arrojados producto del análisis de los contextos arqueológicos, sis... more Síntesis sobre los resultados arrojados producto del análisis de los contextos arqueológicos, sistema constructivo, orientación, distribución espacial y ubicación del Grupo Frey en Bonampak, el cual fue excavado entre 1993 y 1994 por Alejandro Tovalín. A partir de esos indicadores se producen las interpretaciones de la posible función del conjunto arquitectónico. Para lo anterior, se recurre a conceptos tales como el de “depósitos problemáticos”, con la intención de intentar dar una explicación coherente a la aparente contradicción que la autora encuentra entre las hipótesis previamente elaboradas por otros académicos acerca de los usos habitacionales de este inmueble y las evidencias materiales recuperadas durante las excavaciones. Por lo tanto, se busca ofrecer una interpretación alternativa mediante una óptica distinta sobre la formación de los contextos arqueológicos.

El presente articulo expone los fundamentos academicos y juridicos bajo los cuales ha sido disena... more El presente articulo expone los fundamentos academicos y juridicos bajo los cuales ha sido disenado e implantado el Sistema Unico de Registro Publico de Monumentos y Zonas Arqueologicos e Historicos, creado con la finalidad de hacer mas eficiente la proteccion del patrimonio cultural. Por ello se presentan las caracteristicas tecnologicas que ostenta el sistema, asi como sus funcionalidades y virtudes. Tambien se explica como fue articulado cada uno de sus componentes y la manera en que se conformaron las fichas de monumentos arqueologicos e historicos muebles e inmuebles. Se hace una reflexion en torno al impacto positivo en cuanto a las practicas tradicionales de control y resguardo del patrimonio con la puesta en marcha de dicho sistema, ademas de los retos que el inah aun debe encarar respecto a esta tematica.

Por ello se presentan las características tecnológicas que ostenta el sistema, así como sus funcionalidades y virtudes. También se explica cómo fue articulado cada uno de sus componentes y la manera en que se conformaron las fichas de monumentos arqueológicos e históricos muebles e inmuebles. Se hace una reflexión en torno al impacto positivo en cuanto a las prácticas tradicionales de control y resguardo del patrimonio con la implementación de dicho sistema, además de los retos que el INAH aún debe encarar respecto a esta temática.
