We’ve survived and extracted from the robot-ruled battlefields of Arc Raiders, adventured across the medieval lands of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, and established mind-expanding exhibitions in Two Point Museum. We helped Keeper’s sentient lighthouse solve puzzles, and unearthed the secrets buried in Atomfall’s eerie England. But which of the year’s many different video games is worthy of being crowned the very best of 2025?Every December, the IGN team considers all the games they’ve collectively played and reviewed across the year, and votes on which one they think is the greatest of them all. Which one is the “Game of the Year”? Sometimes that choice is incredibly difficult. Other years, it’s easy. 2025 was the latter, with our winner securing almost three-quarters of the vote. But what is that near-universally admired game? That’s what we’re here to reveal.

Here's our list of Nominees for Game of the Year 2025.This was the year when the wait for Hollow Knight: Silksong finally ended, and proved that good things really do come to those who wait. But 2025 was just as much about fresh faces as it was long-awaited sequels, with Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 from new studio Sandfall Interactive being the topic of at least half of all gaming conversation for most of the year. Make sure to check back throughout the week starting on Monday, December 15. Throughout the week, we will announce the winners of our Best Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo game awards. This week of awards will culminate on Friday, December 19, when we will reveal IGN’s Game of the Year.

5 months, 3 weeks - In today's Daily Fix:Hollow Knight: Silksong is barely two weeks away, and gamers seem to be flooding back to the original in preparation. According to SteamDB, 2017's Hollow Knight hit an all-time concurrent high with 23,840 players this week. While it's not the most concurrents across all Steam games, it is a franchise peak. In other news, Donkey Kong Bananza's somewhat controversial control scheme came at the suggestion of Donkey Kong creator Shigeru Miyamoto. Bananza's game director, Kazuya Takahashi, revealed that it was Miyamoto's idea, but they left the option to swap the 'punch down' and 'jump' buttons in case players had a hard time re-wiring their muscle memory.
