Paulo Augusto holds a Ph.D. in Economics from KULeuven, Belgium, focusing on the valuation of natural capital, which led to a published monograph at Edward Elgar Publishing, UK. Additionally, he completed a post-doctoral in Environmental Economics and Management at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and an International Master Program in Statistics from KULeuven. Paulo Augusto academic journey began with a BA in Economics, Nova Business School, Portugal, and a Master of Arts in Economics, KULeuven, graduating cum laude.
Currently, as a Member of the Finance Taskforce of the UN Decade for Ecosystem Restoration at the World Bank, Paulo Augusto coordinates initiatives to unlock capital for ecosystem restoration and foster investment. Previously, Paulo Augusto served as a Climate and Environmental Statistical Advisor at the IMF, leading a capacity development program in Colombia to enhance environmental statistics.
Paulo Augusto experience extends to strategic governance roles, such as serving as an Alternate Member of the Board of the Bioversity International and CIAT, where he contributed to establishing the Alliance. Additionally, as the Global Coordinator for the FAO Biodiversity Mainstreaming Platform, Paulo Augusto prepared technical work supporting the development of the FAO Strategy on Mainstreaming Biodiversity across Agricultural Sectors and its action plan.
