ダッハウ
ミュンヘン郊外のダッハウという小さな
町に残されている強制収容所。
シャワー室と呼ばれたガス室。その中
に入りビデオカメラを回す。
山と積み重ねられた棒切れのような死
体の前で、人は棒切れのように死ぬこ
ともあるのだと戦慄し、さらに残酷な死
体を写真の中に探そうとする。
息を呑む音が反響しそうな狭い部屋。
耳は何かを聞き分けようと緊張し、乱れ
ていたビデオカメラのフォーカスがシャ
ワー口を一瞬捉えると、死体があるわけ
でもないのに、目は死体のひとりと合っ
てしまう。
Dachau
A concentration camp remained in a small town,
Dachau in a Munich suburb.
A gas chamber called a shower stall.
I enter the chamber and set up my video camera.
I am impressed by the fact
that a man might die like a stick,
in front of the piled-up corpses which look like more sticks.
And I try to look for inhuman bodies in the pictures.
Such a small room that the sound of holding
my breath seems to echo.
My ears strain to listen for something.
The moment I focus my video camera
on a shower head
I meet one corpse's glance, though there are no corpses.
