A Few Questions with Sam

What appealed to you about working for a software development company?

I had been looking to transition into a career in tech. While I have a background in performing, I recently completed the junior phase of Hack Reactor’s web development bootcamp. So, for me ILM seemed like a perfect opportunity to leverage my newly gained knowledge and existing skillset.

What’s an aspect of your role that you enjoy the most, and why?

The people. I am excited to connect with developers, hear about their backgrounds, and help them land exciting new opportunities.

What’s in your DNA that drives you the most in your work?

I love collaborating and working as part of a team to accomplish ambitious goals. This has been present throughout my career across many roles in various settings. I am really eager to see how I can help the ILM team grow.

What about your role is the most challenging for you to manage?

ILM’s focus is looking for highly skilled developers. Those types of developers are in high demand and often have several recruiters contacting them at any given time. That kind of competition can be seen as a challenge, but the ILM recruiting team is up to the task.

Is it easy for you to mentally break away from your role?

I think so. I do my best to be a good uncle to my nephews that live in the area, and I have hobbies that I am passionate about.

Are you a Mac or PC person?

I am a Mac person, just out of comfort and because it was my personal computer through college. It’s what I’m used to.

When it comes to icebreakers, what’s your go-to approach to start a conversation?

I love asking people about their hobbies. So many people do incredibly interesting things in their free time, and I enjoy hearing them talk about it, sharing their passions.

What kind of hobbies and interests do you have outside of work?

I love distance running. I mostly train for half and full marathon races. In many ways, it’s just an excuse to get outside. I particularly love running down country roads and trails in the area.
