Site characterization is underway at high altitude locations in the Himalayan mountains. A detailed concept design for NLST (National Large Solar Telescope) has been completed. The optical design of the telescope is optimized for high optical throughput and uses a minimum number of optical elements. A high order AO system is integrated part of the design that works with a modest Fried's parameter of 7-cm to give diffraction limited performance. The telescope will be equipped with a suite of post-focus instruments including a high resolution spectrograph and a polarimeter. NLST will also be used for carrying out stellar observations during the night. The mechanical design of the telescope, building, and the innovative dome is optimized to take advantage of the natural air flush which will help to keep the open telescope in temperature equilibrium. After its completion (planned for 2014), NLST will fill a gap in longitude between the major solar facilities in USA and Europe, and it will be for years the largest solar telescope in the world

Both descriptive and inferential statistics were used for data analysis.ResultsThree hundred fourteen students responded (213 from public universities and 101 from the private university). Approximately 32% of public university students and 37% of private university students ranked their own interest in pharmacy as the reason for undertaking pharmacy degree studies; 40.4% of public and 19.8% of private university respondents stated that they would enter a nonpharmacy-related career upon graduation if given the choice. Public university students ranked hospital pharmacy as their choice of first career setting (4.39, p = 0.001), while private students ranked community pharmacy first (4.1, p = 0.002). On a scale of 1 to 5, salary received the highest mean score (3.9 and 4.0, p = 0.854) as the extrinsic factor most influencing their career choice.ConclusionsFinal-year students at Malaysian public universities were most interested in hospital pharmacy practice as their first career step upon graduation, while private university students were most interested in community pharmacy. The top 3 extrinsic factors rated as significant in selecting a career destination were salary, benefits, and geographical location.

Another aim was to identify demographic and socio-economic factors that are associated with CAM use.RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS: Face-to-face interviews of conveniently selected patients with chronic diseases were conducted in outpatient clinics of a general hospital. A validated data collection form was used to gather the information regarding pattern, perception, reasons, and perceived effect of CAM on the disease state. The other relevant information including demographics, diagnosis, indication, and treatment were collected from the patients' medical records.RESULTS: Out of 321 patients interviewed in this study, 205 patients were using some form of CAM, and thus the utilisation rate was 63.9%. A significant number of patients (35.5%) were using CAM for diabetes mellitus. Thirteen types of CAM were identified in the study with the most common being vitamins supplements (48.2%), herbal medicines (26.4%), ginseng (4.7%) and traditional Chinese medicine (4.0%). The patients with higher education level, higher income, and aged more than 50 years were independently associated with CAM use. Majority of the patients (77.6%) reported that their condition had improved by using CAM.CONCLUSION: The present study confirms the high frequency of CAM use among patients with chronic diseases in a Malaysian public hospital. The popularity of CAM indicated the patients' preference towards holistic approach to health care.

Will T20 clean sweep other formats of Cricket in future?
Enthralling experience of the newest format of cricket coupled with the possibility of making it ... more Enthralling experience of the newest format of cricket coupled with the possibility of making it to the prestigious Olympic spectacle, T20 cricket will be the most important cricket format in times to come. The findings of this paper confirmed that comparatively test cricket is boring to tag along as it is spread over five days and one-days could be followed but on weekends, however, T20 cricket matches, which are normally played after working hours and school time in floodlights is more attractive for a larger audience. In addition it was known that the interest of the sponsors is directly proportional to the interest of the masses, which will also bring more shine to the T20 format in times to come.

Wave modes in thick photospheric flux tubes - Classification and diagnostic diagram

The aim of this investigation is to determine the normal modes of a stratified atmosphere with a vertical magnetic field and to discuss their properties. The results are displayed in the form of a diagnostic diagram. An interesting feature of the solutions is the existence of 'avoided crossings', which occur when adjacent order modes approach each other in the diagnostic diagram. In general, the character of a mode changes with height in the atmosphere. Results are applied to umbral oscillations, and it is found that the observed oscillations with periods in the range 2-3 min, correspond to low-order modes in these calculations. For low horizontal wave number K, the modes, in the photosphere, have almost equal contributions from longitudinal and transverse components. As K increases, the transverse component begins to dominate. In the chromosphere, the modes are essentially transverse and can be identified with slow modes.

Impact of FLT3 internal tandem duplications on Indian acute promyelocytic leukemia patients: Prognostic implications

With the view to evaluate the role of FLT3 mutation in APL, 54 patients (median age 28 years, range11-57 years, male to female ratio 1.2:1, median TLC 8.4 x 10(9)/l, range 1-170 x 10(9)/l) were studied by reverse transcriptase-PCR. Forty-two patients (77%) achieved first remission (CR1). Ten (18.5%) of the 54 patients had internal tandem duplication of exons 11 and 12 of the FLT3 gene. The median TLC count was significantly higher in FLT3 positive cases (Median TLC 55.0 x 10(9)/l) as compared to FLT3 negative cases (Median TLC 6.8 x 10(9)/l) (p = 0.001). Induction CR was much lower (40%) in FLT3/ITD positive cases as compared to 86% of FLT3/ITD negative cases (p = 0.005). Early deaths too were significantly associated with FLT3/ITD positive cases (50 vs. 16% p = 0.033). The difference in the occurrence of bcr1 and bcr3 isoforms was not statistically significant between the two groups. The data suggest that the presence of FLT3/ITD in APL patients confers a poor prognosis.

Dynamical effects and energy transport in intense flux tubes

After constructing an equilibrium atmosphere within the tube, this equilibrium is perturbed through the introduction of a small downflow. Complex oscillatory behavior is observed in which upflow and downflow phases do not appear to be symmetric. Vertical energy transport through radiation emerges as very important, especially in the proximity of continuum optical-depth unity. Observational implications are noted.

They are reportedly similar to several prominent and established modulators of apoptosis. In this review, we present a brief outline of the advancements in the methodology used to detect and identify them and their therapeutic applications in cancer. Their possible interactions with other glycoconjugates are also discussed and a vision for their future use in diagnosis and therapeutics is provided.

Especially moisture content and temperature of the soil are known as the major controlling factors. In situ moisture content measurement is very critical because the moisture content of the soil continuously changes within minutes to hours as a result of change in temperature. The presented study used time domain reflectometry to measure in situ moisture content and analyzed moisture content, temperature and methane data of the landfill soil cover in a quantitative manner. Geotechnical factors including soil grain size and uniformity coefficient of the soil were analyzed and their influence on moisture content and methane emission was examined. The authors used kriging and polynomial regression methods to characterize the spatial distribution of moisture content and methane emission. Methane emission showed good temporal correlation with soil temperature, however, no significant relationship between moisture content and methane emission was observed. Spatial distribution of soil attributes was also analyzed to examine its effect on those variables. The spatial pattern of moisture content was quite similar to that of uniformity coefficient, C u and that of clay content of the soil but strongly contrasted to that of methane emission.

Was the fall of Dhaka inevitable, did the people of Pakistan ever learn any lesson of mutual respect, humility and realism from this fall? The current scenario and growing crises bespeaks another question to the ruling bodies that are we really moving towards another trauma and another fall.
