This paper aims to understand the practice of Corporate Finance in India by the practitioners, an... more This paper aims to understand the practice of Corporate Finance in India by the practitioners, an area where not much work has been done. This study focuses specifically on the capital budgeting, capital structure, financing and payout decisions of companies in India by the practitioners. The study was done by conducting a survey of CFOs. Responses were solicited from 75 CFOs and 20 responses received finally. From the study it was found out that NPV and IRR were the most commonly used techniques for capital budgeting. In the case of capital structure, it was found that the decision in most cases is somewhat flexible. Return maximization was prioritized against financial flexibility. In return maximization, greater earnings and benefit from interest rates were the major drivers while in financial flexibility credit rating and insufficient funds were the major drivers. In the case of financing, debt was the most used option followed by common stock while convertible debt and foreign debt were rarely used. In the case of payout policy the firms preferred dividend payout against share repurchases with majority going for dividends. Maintaining consistency of dividends was the key concern, thereby pointing to the importance of signaling mechanism among shareholders. Share repurchase was construed as more of a temporary activity rather than a permanent policy.

This paper focuses on the role of microfinance in fostering entrepreneurship and employment generation. A survey of 300 “mothers” was conducted in South 24 Paraganas district in West Bengal to understand the role of microfinance in creating new businesses and generating community based employment. It was observed that microfinance has not played any role in creating new businesses and in generating new employment among communities. New business creation can add significant value to MFIs in terms of risk management as this will diversify the fund allocation and therefore the requirement of holding emergency reserves can be minimized. Moreover along with that, the required sum can be used to provide incentives to those who are creating new businesses or are creating employment beyond their own families.

This paper forecasts the demand of apparel in India by 12 end use segments by Rural and Urban Ind... more This paper forecasts the demand of apparel in India by 12 end use segments by Rural and Urban India. Demand for each end use segment is estimated for both rural and urban India using a simple 2 factor model, the factors being population and household consumption expenditure. Apparel end consumption by volume in India is estimated to grow at 4.5% CAGR between 2011 and 2026. The urban demand is estimated to grow at 6.2% CAGR and the rural demand is estimated to grow at 2.4% CAGR.

This paper considers the major issues involving PDS in India from the standpoint of Government and other major stakeholders. The issues discussed are Targeted PDS against PDS; Viability of the Fair Price Shops; Leakage and Diversion in PDS; Off-take related issues and the issue of Food Stamp implementation. Various policy recommendations are made for solving the issues.

This paper develops a new model extending the existing eight stage Organizational Buying Behavior... more This paper develops a new model extending the existing eight stage Organizational Buying Behavior model from the standpoint of product premium and analyzes its impact on the different stages of the model. The model is developed from an argumentative standpoint and is one of the first attempts in attributing higher degree of specificity in an erstwhile generic and global model depending on the impact of product premium combined with that of buying situations. The developed model observes that the criticality of the different stages of the existing model is altered substantially when observed in the light of the newly introduced dimension of product premium.
