The technique is established on the estimation of robust time derivatives using a variable-structure differentiator observer. A second-order sliding motion is established along designed sliding manifolds to estimate the time derivatives of flat outputs and inputs, leading to better tracking performance of estimates during transients. The parameter convergence and accuracy analysis is rigorously explored systematically for the proposed class of estimators. The proposed method is validated using two case studies; first, the parameters of an uncertain nonlinear system with known, but uncertain nominal parametric values are estimated to demonstrate the convergence, accuracy, and robustness of the scheme; in the second application, the experimental parameter estimation of an onboard-diagnosis-IIcompliant automotive vehicle engine is presented. The estimated parameters of the automotive engine are used to tune the theoretical mean value engine model having inaccuracies due to modeling errors and approximation assumptions. The resulting dynamics of the tuned engine model matches exactly with experimental engine data, verifying the accuracy of the estimates.

The paper will identify a political/theological ideology that is based in and justified through Islam, specifically supported by the concepts of jihad (struggle) and shahid (martyr). This analysis finds that through the shift of al-Qaeda from a terrorist group to a movement (which is ideologically directed by al-Qaeda), the group's doctrine and ideology lack consistency. This lack of consistency specifically concerns the ideological position on democracy and reform within an Islamic state, and secondly the views on Shiite Muslims, particularly within Iraq.

Such monitoring and predicting system is essential to propose policies and actions to effectively and efficiently block the pandemic. In this paper, a framework model of a system called Spreading Disease Monitoring System is proposed. It consists of data collection model, analysis methods, models of disease, disease states model, movement model, and technologies. The writing briefly discusses the data collection and analysis method to establish this disease monitoring system, several models and technology applied in the system, and the data information the system could provide.

The RF response and the cutoff frequency f T have been obtained for physical gate lengths ranging from 10 to 50 nm. These results, in turn, have been used in a transit-time analysis to determine the effective gate length in each case. By interpolation, one can make an estimate of the absolute upper limit for f T , which we find to be 2.9 THz in the device studied. Importantly, the effective gate lengths are considerably shorter than the depletion lengths. Thus, in general, any estimate of f T based on the latter quantity is likely too small by a quite significant amount.

Reasonable agreement between experimental and numerical results is obtained for a 70-nm gate length. We discuss the scaling of this device to shorter gate lengths and the role played by various dimensions in the structure. Devices with 20-nm gate lengths should produce f T s above 1.5 THz without difficulty. This paper demonstrates the power of particle-based simulation tools in capturing the relevant physics responsible for device operation and key to performance optimization.

Replacing a traditional Poisson solver with a more robust electromagnetics (EM) solver allows us to accurately account for radiated losses and provides a useful tool for investigating the near and far-field radiation patterns inherent in modern devices.

Methods A prospective randomized study using 48 Sprague–Dawley rats. A standardized 1.5 × 5 cm fascial defect was created and repaired with either Permacol or Surgisis grafts. The rats were then sacrificed at 3, 14, 28, or 60 days. The specimens were examined for SOI, neovascularization, collagen deposition, collagen organization, and adhesion formation. Results Surgisis had significantly greater SOI than Permacol at 28 (0.115 vs. 0.0754 Mpa) and 60 days (0.131 vs. 0.635 Mpa). Surgisis had significantly more collagen deposition and neovascularization than Permacol at 60 days. The area of adhesions was not significantly different between Surgisis and Permacol. Conclusion Surgisis is superior to Permacol in terms of SOI and tissue ingrowth at 60 days. Furthermore, Surgisis strengthened over time whereas Permacol decreased in strength.
