This paper proposes an analysis of faceted theory and of various knowledge organization approaches.
Building upon the faceted theory of S.R. Ranganathan (1967), the paper intends to address the faceted
classification approach applied to build domain ontologies. Based on this perspective, an ontology of a
music domain has been analyzed that would serve as a case study. As classificatory ontologies are employed to
represent the relationships of entities and objects on the web, the faceted approach is deemed as an effective
means to help organize web content. While different knowledge organization systems are being employed to
address the cluttered Web in different contexts and with various degrees of effectiveness, faceted ontologies
have an enormous potential for addressing this issue by performing domain analysis for knowledge modeling
and ultimately facilitating semantic information retrieval.

Purpose -The purpose of this paper is to analyse the paradigm shift of library automation to resource discovery by exploring the applications of resource discovery. The present status of India on adapting resource discovery applications is discussed. Design/methodology/approach -An evaluative method to examine the status quo of India automation and resource discovery scenario is drawn with a related literature review. Moreover, various pertinent global challenges of embracing discovery tools in the digital environment are highlighted.

Do Literature Festivals Promote Reading and Public Libraries? A Survey Purpose (mandatory): This article is an attempt to study the relationship between public libraries, literature festivals, and reading habits in Chennai and Bangalore to understand publishing, reading and the role of public libraries to improve reading and learning among public. Design/methodology/approach (mandatory) A field visit to a select book fairs and literature festivals in Chennai and Bangalore was undertaken in 2015 and 2016 to collect data. A pre-designed questionnaire was used for data collection at the festivals to establish the correlation among the libraries, bookshops, book fairs and literature festivals. A sample of (n= 445) was received from the respondents. Findings (mandatory) The findings suggest that 47 percent of respondents do not have any kind of library memberships and largely (n=154) respondents say they own an electronic device for reading. 25 per cent say reading books is one of the top leisurely activities and distance (31.7 percent) hinders people to visit libraries for reading. 80 percent agree visiting literature festivals influence and improve reading habits. Further, 48.4 percent read several times a week and 46.7 percent read 5 to 20 books in any year. 84 per cent agree that there is a significant link between a family's reading habits and a child's future attitude to reading. 74 percent agree that people who buy books from bookshops also borrow books from libraries and vice versa and endorse the fact that there is a strong relationship between book buyers and library visitors. Social implications (if applicable) Litfests are booming to promote literature in India. There is a lot to be done to promote public libraries as public good for people in India as a third space for reading, inclusion and diversity. Innovations in social media and networks, information and communication technologies and internet give an opportunity to library sector to tap the literature festivals phenomenon to celebrate reading to reach a large section of the society. Originality/value (mandatory) This is a unique exploration to connect the stakeholders—policy makers, publishers and libraries associated with reading as studies of this nature are rarely reported in India, when print and digital publishing is flourishing.

Design/methodology/approach
This is a descriptive study based on data collected from literature review and census data on public libraries, along with a field visit of government public libraries at Bangalore. It attempts a critique of existing policies related to public libraries in particular and the culture sector in general, which governs the Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Museums (GLAMs) in India.

Findings
Of India’s 29 states and 7 union territories, 19 states have passed state library legislations, of which only 5 have the provision of a library cess or tax levy and it was found that states with lower literacy rates do not have library legislations. Bihar and Chhattisgarh in 2008 and Arunachal Pradesh in 2009 have recently passed these legislations without a library cess. Few states have progressed with the automation of public libraries, while 16 state libraries continue to function without any such legislation. The legislative process and legal issues involved in policy making, combined with the lack of political consensus and goodwill, have severely constrained the growth, coverage and development of public libraries for people in India. The existing national acts and state library legislations should be reviewed to adapt to changing times and to bring about integrated information services across GLAMs for the public. A RTI query sent to the Ministry of Culture revealed that there is no official data available on the per capita expenditure on public libraries in India.

Practical implications
In an online-networked environment, all GLAM institutions work towards collecting, preserving and providing access to educational and cultural heritage resources as social capital. However, there is a lack of national policy to govern GLAMs and the government bodies responsible for developing GLAMs are not integrative in their processes. A more holistic framework is required to assess funding needs and to ensure reforms in culture sector. Central government should make it mandatory to have access to public library for every citizen of India, legitimating public library services, even as India celebrates 100 years of public librarianship and enters its second century of providing library and information services to the nation. 

Originality/value
GLAMs should be inclusionary public spaces for intellectual engagement and community development and need greater attention of policy makers. Though the public library movement reached its peak in the nationalist movements of the early 20th century, developing integrated and contemporary policies for the growth and development of public libraries as a public good in the 21st century will make India a knowledge society.

This paper aims to examine integrated library systems (ILS) and web-scale discovery services (WSDS) of the National Institute of Ranking Framework’s (NIRF) top-ranked universities in India. The 200 top- ranked institutions in the NIRF rankings 2020 were chosen to evaluate their ILS-WSDS systems available through their library websites. At the core of technology adoption, for the ILS to WSDS transitions, the uptake is found to be rather slow.
