political and economic project of Karl Jaroszynski in 1918
The article is devoted to contacts between German diplomatic agents and Russian financier Karl Jaroszynski in 1918. During the First World War, even after the fall of the monarchy, the entrepreneur was buying up controlling stakes in the main Russian banks. After the October coup, the implementation of this large-scale financial project became dependent on overthrowing the Bolsheviks. Jaroszynski offered the Germans his help in taking control over the largest banks in Russia, which was supposed to protect their assets from nationalization. In addition, he promised to create a pro-German government that would not revise the Treaty of Brest. In response, the Germans were required to send their troops against Petrograd, drive out the Bolsheviks, and proclaim a monarchy. Although not immediately, the German emissaries nevertheless supported the project and reported it to Berlin. However, supporters of maintaining peace in the East prevailed in the leadership of Germany. The project was not implemented, and Jaroszynski was forced to leave Soviet Russia under threat of arrest.
