Dr. Sibonile Edith Ellece: She is the chair of the local organising committee of IGALA 10. She has a BA (English); Post Graduate Diploma in Education (University of Botswana), MA in Language Studies; PhD in Linguistics (Lancaster University, UK). Dr Ellece is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of English, University of Botswana. Her main research interest is in the areas of critical discourse analysis and gender and language. She has studied gender construction in Tswana marriage practices and other cultural institutions. Her current research project is on the linguistic exploration of the birth, wedding and funeral practices of the Bakalanga and Veekuhane (Subiya) of Botswana, with Ndana Ndana and Chipo Phili.
Prof. Alfred J. Matiki is an Associate Professor in the Department of English at the University of Botswana. He received his Ph.D. in Linguistics from the University of New Mexico, USA, in 2001, an MA in Linguistics from Ohio University, and a BEd from the University of Malawi. He has over 20 years of professional, academic, and research experience. He researches General and Applied Linguistics, particularly Sociolinguistics and Pragmatics. His recent work on Gendered Personal Names in Yoruba and Chichewa (with Alimi, M. M.) will appear in Names Fashioned by Gender: Stitched Perceptions (Pretoria: UNISA, edited by Meyiwa, T. & Cekiso, M).
Dr. Naledi Kgolo has a BA (English), Post Graduate Diploma in Education, MA English Language & Linguistics (University of Botswana); MPhil English & Applied Linguistics (University of Cambridge); PhD in Psycholinguistics & Neurolinguistics (University of Essex).
She is a lecturer in the Department of English at the University of Botswana. Her research interests are in experimental linguistics, language processing, comprehension and acquisition. More specifically, her work focuses on mental processes that occur during language processing. She does research on English and Setswana, the official and national languages of Botswana, respectively. Her recent work includes the processing of morphology in a Bantu language, Setswana, and the processing of digits in Setswana. Prof. Rose Letsholo-Tafila is an Associate Professor of Linguistics at the University of Botswana. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree (English) and a Diploma in Education from the University of Botswana. She read for a Master of Letters at the University of Edinburgh and holds a Ph.D (2002) in Linguistics (Syntax) from the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor). Her research is mainly on the syntax of IKalanga and Setswana, both spoken in Botswana. Over the past few years she has extended her research interests to Khoesan languages and she has a few publications based on llGana, a Khoesan language from New Xade. In addition, she also conducts social and ethnological based researches in the areas of language and gender as well as language attitudes.
Prof. Thapelo J. Otlogetswe is Associate Professor of linguistics and lexicography at the University of Botswana. He is a recipient of the Presidential Order of Honour and the foremost expert on corpus linguistics and lexicography of the Setswana language. His research is in lexical computing and corpus lexicography. He has compiled a number of dictionaries including “Tlhalosi ya Medi ya Setswana”, “English-Setswana Dictionary”, “Oxford English Setswana Setswana English School Dictionary” and ‘Poeletso-medumo ya Setswana: a Setswana Rhyming dictionary’. He works on the interface between language and computing and has developed Setswana Google Search, OpenOffice and Firefox Setswana Spell-checkers.
