This year is UE Skill Year and we are planning our activities based on this initiative.

This decision is important for New Professionals SIG because we see that 2023 as “The European Year of Skills” allows to promote a mindset of reskilling and upskilling as well as helping people to get the right skills for jobs. Learning new skills is also connected with work in libraries and for this reason, we would like to offer our participants many possibilities to share their knowledge. Let’s see what we have prepared for you!

Day 1 – August 18th

We meet in the Goethe-Institut Niederlande in Rotterdam (on the map is here).

8:45 – 9:30 Starting the day with a cup of tea or coffee, sweets from different countries and having a chat with other participants. This time will be good to find out more about each other, talk about our libraries and ourselves.

9:30 – 10:10 Ice-breaker game and official welcoming

10:10 – 12:00 Discussions session about real library challenges

We will talk more about library problems which we know and collect in registration forms. New Professionals SIG wants to use the fact that there will be librarians from so different countries, types of libraries, and with many work experience in one place and time. This situation does not happen so often and we would like to use our knowledge and imagination to help others! Therefore divided into working groups, participants will discuss real library cases and try to find a solution.

12:15 – 13:00 Presentation about the Goethe-Institut

13:00 – 14:00 Lunch

14:00 – 16:30 Skillcamp session

It will be a space where every participant can present their skill, useful not only in our work. Don’t think about big things! We can present everything from graphic programs and dance to design and some words from your language. If you want to be a presenter, let us know in a registration form. In the Goethe-Institut’s rooms we will have everything what we want to use in presentations so everybody is welcome!

Day 2 – August 19th

9:00 – 10:00 Talking about library trends with a cup of tea / coffee / snacks

10:00 – 13:00 Game! We’ll explore Rotterdam together and play a game on our phones. We guarantee a pleasant and unforgettable time!
