Passionate, result-oriented and dedicated Agriculture Scientist with expertise in Plant Biotechnology, Genomics, Modern Breeding Approaches including genomic selection and marker-assisted selection, Next-generation sequencing. Currently, I am working as a Senior Scientist - Genomics, Pre-Breeding and Bioinformatics at International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) Hyderabad, India. With a basic background in molecular genetics and applied genomics, I have over 15 years of research experience in improving crop productivity of legumes in marginal environments using modern plant biotechnology approaches, including identification for candidate genes and their functional validation. I have also led the efforts in developing cost-effective (low-, mid- and high-density) genotyping platforms enabling the use of markers in routine breeding programs. With vast experience in international agriculture, I have published ~50 research articles in high-impact journals including Nature, Nature Biotechnology, Nature Genetics, Trend in Plant Science, Trends in Genetics, Plant Biotechnology Journal, etc. . I have also contributed to the mobilization of over 30 million USD research grants from donors like BMGF, and Govt of India, as Lead or co-Lead in last 5 years. In addition, I have also contributed towards the development and release of several molecular breeding products for drought tolerance and disease resistant chickpea for commercial cultivation in India and Ethiopia.
