Faecal actinomycetes were isolated by dilution methods and identified by 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis. The hydrolytic enzyme activities were analysed by clear zone formation. The antimicrobial activities and resistance to heavy metals were tested by growth inhibition methods. The isolates belong to a small group of actinobacterial genera, including Streptomyces, Nocardiopsis and Oerskovia. The Oerskovia was the most widely distributed genus among the cultures. The proportion of streptomycete-like strains producing amylase or protease is significantly higher than those of other actinomycetes (P < 0.05). Compared with streptomycete-like strains, a higher proportion of (alpha- or beta-) galactase-producing other actinomycetes was found in goat faeces. More than 50% of streptomycete-like strains showed activities against test fungi. Streptomycetes could tolerate 0.25 mmol l(-1) Cr(2)O(7)(2-), 2 mmol l(-1) Ni(2+); however, other actinomycetes are liable to 40 mmol l(-1) Fe(3+) and 0.25 mmol l(-1) Cr(2)O(7)(2-) and resistant to 5 mmol l(-1) Ni(2+) and 2 mmol l(-1) Cu(2+). The different physiological characteristics of the actinomycetes suggested that the cooperation in the actinomycetes might be involved in their association with goat. Probiotic mixtures based on faecal actinomycetes showed potentials in animal production.

A disease of concern is Rotavirus; this spherical virus is responsible for causing diarrhoea like infection in infants. But it is not limited to infants and can occur in adults too. An intensive literature review provided evidence of how the currently available vaccines fail to protect a whole section of the population against this death-causing disease. The current study explores a protein targeted by a ligand that could be potentially developed as a drug. The protein considered is VP4 which is involved in the pathogenesis of the rotavirus. The ligand considered is 2-{[2-(4-phenyl-3,6-dihydro-1(2H)-pyridinyl) ethyl] amino}-4(3H)-quinazolinone with a chemical formula C21H22N4O and molecular weight 346.3 Da. The protein’s physiochemical and stereochemical analysis was conducted, followed by the ligand-protein interaction studies, molecular ...

This study was conducted to determine the knowledge and practice of the prevalence of self-medication among urban population in Makkah region. A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted with a target population of 1000 participants over the period of three months. The data was collected in the form of well designed specific questionnaires related to self-medication along with other informations related to the bio-informatics of the individual, etc., both in English and Arabic language. This cross-sectional survey study was conducted by blending both qualitative and quantitative methods of data collection during an awareness campaign and through direct interview with the participant. The collected data were analysed by the Microsoft Excel and SPSS. The values were presented as numbers (%). IBM SPSS, IBM Corp., Armonk, N.Y., USA, version 23 was utilized for analysis. Statistical comparisons were made by Pearson Chi-Square test. The data were significant if P-values were < 0.05. The analysed results of the collected data suggested that the effort was needed in ensuring that the drive is required to discourage the practice of the selfmedication and encourage the visit to the medical practitioners to follow the proper guidelines of the prescribed medications. It is necessary to study the factors associated with the uptake of medications among the studied population and avoid the complications of self-medication.

This study entails in silico structural and finding inhibitor compound for the secreted glycoprotein of Reston ebola virus (strain Philippines-96). The physical and stereochemical properties and the protein's secondary and tertiary structure were predicted initially. Later, as the predicted model was evaluated to be a reliable structure, binding pockets were predicted, and known binding ligands to similar proteins were identified. Analogue compounds to known ligands were collected and docked against ssGP. The compound with the least binding energy was identified and recommended as a potent inhibitor towards ssGP. From this study, in-vitro and in-vivo analysis was computed for the selected ligand for designing effective drugs against Reston ebolavirus.
