
Oluwafemi S Oyamakin PhD
My name is Samuel Oluwafemi Oyamakin, I hold a Bachelor's, master and Ph.D. degree in Statistics from the University of Ibadan where I currently work as a Senior Lecturer. I am a Fellow, Graduate Statistician, Chartered Statistician, and a Chartered Scientist of the Royal Statistical Society, United Kingdom, and also a member of Nigeria Statistical Association, Professional Statisticians’ Society of Nigeria, International Biometric Society, Nigeria Mathematical Society, and International Statistical Institute (ISI), among others. I am an applied statistician interested in developing statistical models for complex biological systems and their application to problems in science and industry with an interest in understanding how statistical concepts are best communicated. Currently, I am the Master's degree coordinator and the coordinator of the department's open and distance learning program in the Department of Statistics, the University of Ibadan with a passion for teaching and conducting research in statistics utilization, modeling and practice. I have collaborated with researchers from other disciplines like Public Health, Forestry, and Sociology within and outside the country and was among the delegates invited by UNDP (REDD+) to advance knowledge in climate change modeling. I was a participant in the WHO/TDR Programme on Implementation Science and a Mentee of the Working Group providing technical content on projects and initiatives at the University of Ibadan Research Foundation and a member/Mentee on the Ibadan Partnership on the Africa Research on Implementation Sciences and Education (ARISE) project hosted in Tanzania and also the China-Harvard African Network (CHAN) project at the University of Ibadan. I was one of the two ISI Ambassadors selected to attend the International Biometric Conference in Barcelona, Spain. I recently became a fellow of the Partnership for African Social and Governance Research (PASGR), which certified me as one of the Pedagogical Leaders in Africa. I am a dynamic Mathematics and Statistics facilitator with some publications to show my research ability. I recently participated in a UNICEF/ALMA and Federal Ministry of Health (FMoH) study to document Nigerians’ experience on the use of Reproductive Maternal Neonatal Child and Adolescent Health (RMNCAH) Scorecards in 10 states namely, Adamawa, Bauchi, Kaduna, Kano, Nigeria, Kebbi, Rivers, Ebonyi, Oyo, and Osun with a deep dive into five (5) states for the development of a policy document on Health. Also, I am currently part of the Modeling Team of the University of Ibadan Research Foundation, on the impact of COVID-19 on Adolescents, an IDRC project being led by York University, Canada
