No. Due to customs and border regulations, it is not permitted to board or disembark the ship at an intermediate port of call. All invited athletes and their entourage are required to complete the full cruise from initial embarkation to final disembarkation.
Participants need to have an ID and/or Passport that is valid for at least 6 months dated after the end of this voyage.
For all journeys with ports of call exclusively within the EU, an identity card that is valid for at least 3 months after the end of the journey is sufficient for European citizens. Nevertheless, all guests should always travel with a valid passport, as there may be unforeseen stopovers in a non-EU country during the trip, for example due to medical emergencies or other unforeseen events. We recommend that you always carry a copy of your passport or identity card with you. Your passport should have at least one free double page.
Please also note that all travellers must be in possession of their own identification document with the appropriate validity. If your identity document has already been reported lost or stolen, you may encounter difficulties when travelling to some countries. Please check this before your departure.
Visa requirements vary depending on your nationality and personal circumstances. It is the responsibility of each athlete and their travelling party to ensure they hold the correct travel documentation before departure.
The full cruise itinerary including all planned ports of call is available HERE. Please review this carefully and ensure your documentation covers every stop on the route. If you have any doubt, we strongly recommend contacting your relevant consulate or embassy to confirm visa and entry requirements before you travel.
Athletes will be released one at a time (singles) or two at a time (doubles) at regular intervals – it is not a mass start.
An athlete’s finishing time is their total elapsed time from their individual start. Start times, order and intervals to be advised closer to the event.
On the top deck of the ship. There is a two-lane running track around the deck and all workstations are grouped together at the stern.

The HYROX Elite Series represents the highest level of competitive racing within HYROX and represent the pinnacle of the sport; sitting above Open and Pro racing as a closed, invitation only series designed for the very best athletes in the world.
The HYROX Elite Series exists to provide a fair, consistent, and professional environment in which top athletes can compete against one another under comparable conditions. It is built for high performance, broadcast, and global scalability, while preserving the core HYROX principle of racing like for like.
The HYROX Elite Series is structured across 2 divisions, each with two race formats and two gender categories and each with their own distinct leaderboards.
- E15 Division Singles
- E15 Division Doubles
- Challenger Division Singles
- Challenger Division Doubles
Each category operates independently, with its own rankings, invitations, and qualification pathways. Performance in one category does not carry across to another.
Note: At present, there is no Mixed Doubles E15 or Challenger category. Mixed teams do compete within the Pro division but there is currently no HYROX Elite Series pathway for Mixed Doubles.
The HYROX Elite Series serves a broader purpose within the HYROX ecosystem. It establishes a clear top tier for the sport, sets professional standards around athlete conduct and integrity, and creates a transparent pathway for athletes aspiring to reach the highest level. While Open and Pro racing remain accessible and inclusive, the Elite 15 is intentionally selective.
Being part of the HYROX Elite Series carries responsibility. Athletes are expected to meet defined standards of professionalism, comply with anti doping requirements, communicate clearly with organisers, and represent the sport positively on and off the race floor. Performance matters, but so does reliability and behaviour.
Elite 15 athletes and teams do not enter Elite races through public registration. They are invited by HYROX based on their ranking position in the relevant Elite 15 category. This applies across all Elite race tiers, including Majors, and the World Championships.
Two Categories, Two Pathways
Elite 15 Singles and Elite 15 Doubles operate as distinct competitions. Each has its own ranking system, invitation thresholds, and start lists. A strong season in Singles does not automatically create eligibility in Doubles, and Doubles results do not carry across into Singles. Athletes and teams must earn their position within the category they intend to compete in.
Race Tiers Within the Series
The Elite 15 season is built around invitation only races that sit at different tiers of competitive importance. These tiers apply to both Elite 15 Singles and Elite 15 Doubles and are reflected in the points available for each race type:
- Standard Pro races (qualification path)
- Majors
- World Championships
Higher tier races carry greater strategic importance because they offer higher maximum points and typically attract deeper fields. This creates meaningful incentive to perform strongly at the most competitive events while still rewarding season long consistency.
Rankings Are the Single Source of Truth
Elite 15 rankings are published and maintained on the official leaderboard at hyrox.com. Rankings are points based and calculated using the published qualification framework. Only results achieved while meeting all eligibility requirements are included, including the requirement to hold a valid HYROX Athlete Licence at the time of competition.
Rankings evolve throughout the season as results are validated and confirmed. Official results may be adjusted following race result challenges or the conclusion of doping control procedures. When results are adjusted, rankings are updated accordingly.
Invitations
Elite 15 athletes and teams are invited by HYROX based on their ranking position in the relevant Elite 15 category. This applies across all Elite race tiers, including Majors and the World Championships.
Once a field is locked for an Elite race, invitations are issued via email directly to athletes or teams and include a defined timeframe for acceptance or decline. Athletes and teams are expected to respond promptly. Failure to respond within the stated timeframe may result in the invitation being withdrawn and offered to the next ranked eligible athlete or team.
Cut Offs and Field Locking
Selection for Elite races is based on rankings assessed at defined cut off points in the season. As a general rule, cut offs occur 21 days prior to race day unless otherwise communicated. Only points accrued before the cut off date are eligible for the race in question. Points earned on the cut off date itself, or after it, will not be considered for that specific race even if the leaderboard later updates.
Cut offs exist to create operational certainty, allow travel planning, and ensure fair roll down opportunities. They also reduce ambiguity by making it clear when rankings are assessed for selection purposes.
Roll Downs
If an invited athlete or team declines an invitation, withdraws after initially accepting, or fails to respond within the acceptance window, a roll down will occur. Roll downs are processed strictly in ranking order within the relevant category and only apply to athletes or teams who are eligible and licensed at the time the roll down is actioned. Athletes or teams who are unavailable, unlicensed, or unresponsive are skipped.
Eligibility Underpins Everything
Eligibility is non-negotiable within the Elite 15 system. To earn ranking points, be considered for invitations, and compete in Elite races, athletes must hold a valid HYROX Athlete Licence at the time of each relevant race. Results achieved without a valid licence do not generate points and do not influence rankings. This applies to all race tiers, including Majors and the World Championships, for both Elite 15 Singles and Elite 15 Doubles.
For Elite 15 Doubles, team eligibility also requires that both athletes represent the same nationality as determined by their passport. This ensures consistent national representation and protects the integrity of the Doubles category.
Elite 15 racing requires more than physical and mental preparation. Competing at this level means operating as a professional athlete within a global racing series. Travel planning, accommodation, insurance, and personal risk management are all part of being race ready.
Here we outline the expectations placed on Elite 15 athletes in relation to travel, accommodation, and insurance, and clarifies where athlete responsibility sits.
Travel Planning
Elite 15 athletes are responsible for arranging their own travel for all Pro races used for qualification and all Elite races, including Majors and the World Championships.
HYROX does not provide flights, ground transport, or travel subsidies unless otherwise communicated. Athletes should plan travel with sufficient buffers to accommodate race briefings, media obligations, and potential schedule changes.
Elite racing often involves international travel, tight timelines, and competition across multiple time zones. Managing these factors is part of operating at a professional level.
Accommodation
Accommodation is arranged and paid for by each athlete or Doubles team.
From time to time, HYROX may identify preferred or recommended hotels to support logistics or event operations. These recommendations are optional and do not constitute provision of accommodation. Any costs incurred remain the responsibility of the athlete.
Athletes are encouraged to select accommodation that supports effective recovery and rest, reliable access to the venue, and flexibility in the event of schedule adjustments.
Travel Disruption and Risk
HYROX is not responsible for missed races, forfeited invitations, or lost ranking opportunities resulting from travel disruption, including flight delays, cancellations, or personal travel issues.
Athletes are expected to factor travel risk into their planning and to communicate early if circumstances change.
Insurance and Medical Cover
All Elite 15 athletes are strongly advised to hold comprehensive travel insurance for every event they attend. This insurance should include adequate medical cover, emergency transport and repatriation, hospitalisation and treatment costs, and coverage for competitive sport.
HYROX provides holistic patron centric care at HYROX events across the world, with appropriate on site medical capabilities in place to respond to incidents during competition. However, on site care does not extend to financial responsibility for medical treatment outside the venue.
Ambulance and Off Site Medical Costs
If an athlete requires ambulance transport, hospital treatment, or specialist care off site, all associated costs are the responsibility of the athlete.
HYROX does not assume liability for ambulance fees, emergency department charges, hospital admissions, diagnostic imaging, or follow up treatment.
This applies regardless of whether the incident occurs during competition, warm up, or within the event venue.
Athletes should ensure their insurance arrangements are suitable for the country in which they are competing and reflect the realities of elite level sport.
Personal Responsibility at Elite Level
Elite 15 racing operates to professional standards. Athletes are expected to travel prepared and insured, understand local healthcare systems, manage their own accommodation and recovery environment, and accept personal responsibility for off site medical and travel related costs.
Failure to hold appropriate insurance may expose athletes to significant financial risk.
In summary, Elite race readiness extends beyond training. Travel, accommodation, and insurance are athlete managed responsibilities. HYROX will always prioritise athlete welfare on site, but financial responsibility for travel and off site medical care sits with the athlete.
To clarify eligibility rules across Elite 15 and Age Group (AG) divisions to ensure consistency and protect the integrity of competition, please refer to the following.
- Any athlete competing in an Elite 15 Singles race is not eligible to compete in an Age Group Singles race at the World Championships
- If you have already purchased an Age Group Singles ticket and will be racing Elite 15 Singles, you are eligible for a refund by contacting [email protected]
- Any athlete competing in Elite 15 Doubles may not compete in the same doubles pairing within the Age Group division
- Elite 15 athletes (Singles or Doubles) may compete in Age Group Doubles, provided that only one athlete in the pair is competing in Elite 15 at the World Championships
These rules are in place to ensure fairness across divisions and to maintain a clear distinction between Elite and Age Group competition pathways.
From Season 26/27 onward, the Elite Series operates under a percentile based, fixed points qualification framework designed to ensure fairness, comparability, and global consistency across all race locations and conditions.
Qualification for the Elite Series is ranking based, points driven, and applied consistently across both the Elite 15 division (Singles and Doubles) and the Challenger Division (Singles and Doubles). There is no single qualifying race, no discretionary selection, and no wildcard entry.
One Framework, Two Divisions
Elite 15 Singles and Elite 15 Doubles each operate under the same core qualification principles, but rankings are calculated and maintained separately for each category. Points earned in Singles do not carry into Doubles, and Doubles results do not carry into Singles.
To be eligible to earn qualification points in either category, athletes must:
- Hold a valid HYROX Athlete Licence at the time of competition
- Meet all eligibility requirements for the relevant category
- Compete in an approved Pro and/or Elite races
Results achieved without meeting these requirements do not generate points and are not included in Elite 15 rankings.
A Rolling 365 Day Window
Elite 15 rankings are calculated using results from a rolling 365 day period. This ensures that rankings reflect current performance rather than historical reputation.
As new results are added, older results naturally drop out of the window. Athletes and teams must therefore continue to perform across the season to maintain ranking position. There is no mechanism to ‘bank’ status outside the 365 day period.
How Points Are Awarded
Points are awarded based on performance relative to the winning time, rather than raw finishing position alone. This percentile based approach accounts for differences in venue conditions, course layout, and environmental factors, and ensures that performances can be compared fairly across global events.
Each race tier has a defined maximum points value. Higher tier races offer higher maximum points, reflecting stronger fields and increased competitive significance. Points are only awarded to athletes or teams who finish within defined performance thresholds to prevent inflated scoring from weak or non competitive fields.
Race Tiers and Points Value
Elite qualification points are available at the following race tiers for both Singles and Doubles:
- Pro races
- Elite Regional Championships
- Majors
- World Championships
Each tier carries a different maximum points ceiling, with the World Championships representing the highest value race of the season. The detailed points tables and formulas are published separately and applied consistently across all events.
Best Results Count
For Elite 15 Singles, an athlete’s best five results within the rolling 365 day window are used to calculate their ranking total.
For Elite 15 Doubles, a team’s best three results within the rolling 365 day window are used. This reflects the practical challenges of maintaining consistent team availability while still rewarding strong and repeat performances.
Additional results beyond the maximum count do not increase the ranking total but may become relevant if higher scoring results fall outside the rolling window.
Strength of Field and Tie Breaking
When athletes or teams are tied on total points, a tie break protocol is applied. The primary tie breaker is strength of field.
Strength of field is calculated using the total combined points of all licensed starters across all eligible races that contribute to the athlete’s or team’s counted results within the rolling 365 day window. In simple terms, points earned against stronger competition are weighted more heavily when resolving ties.
If a tie cannot be resolved using strength of field, further tie break criteria may be applied as published in the official qualification framework.
Licence Dependent by Design
The qualification framework is deliberately licence dependent. Points can only be earned while holding a valid HYROX Athlete Licence. This ensures integrity, enables anti doping compliance, and creates a clear and enforceable eligibility standard across all Elite competition.
Competing without a valid licence does not generate points, regardless of finishing position or race tier. This rule applies equally to Singles and Doubles and across all events.
What This Means in Practice
The Elite 15 qualification framework rewards athletes and teams who:
- Compete regularly across the season
- Perform consistently against strong fields
- Peak effectively at higher tier races
- Maintain eligibility and licensing at all times
There are no shortcuts. Rankings are earned through performance, not reputation.
Not all Elite 15 races carry the same competitive weight.
Within both Elite 15 Singles and Elite 15 Doubles, races are structured across defined tiers that reflect differences in field strength, strategic importance, and points allocation. Understanding these tiers is essential for interpreting rankings, invitations, and how the season unfolds.
The Elite 15 race calendar is deliberately designed to balance consistency with peak competition. Athletes and teams are rewarded not only for occasional standout performances, but for delivering results against strong fields across multiple events and environments.
The Elite Race Tiers
Elite 15 competition is delivered through four race tiers that apply consistently to both Singles and Doubles:
- Standard Pro races
- Majors
- World Championships
Each tier contributes to the overall ranking system, but with different maximum point values and competitive expectations.
Standard Pro Races
Standard Pro races form the backbone of the Elite 15 season. They provide regular opportunities for athletes and teams to score points, maintain ranking position, and demonstrate consistency across the rolling 365 day qualification window.
While fields at Standard Elite races may vary slightly depending on geography and timing, all competitors are invited based on ranking and eligibility. These races are fully governed Elite events and are officiated to the same standards as higher tier races.
Strong performance at Standard Elite races is important for ranking stability. They reward reliability and ensure that athletes remain engaged across the season rather than focusing solely on a small number of marquee events.
Majors
Majors are designed as showcase events for Elite 15 Singles and Elite 15 Doubles. They are delivered with enhanced broadcast focus, tightly managed race operations, and heightened competitive scrutiny. Margins are smaller, expectations are higher, and performance at Majors often plays a defining role in shaping the Elite 15 leaderboard.
While Majors offer greater points opportunity, they do not replace the need for consistency. Athletes and teams who rely solely on a single Major performance are unlikely to maintain ranking position across a full season.
World Championships
The World Championships represent the highest level of Elite 15 competition. They are invitation only events contested exclusively by the highest ranked eligible Elite 15 Singles athletes and Elite 15 Doubles teams at the published cut off date.
The World Championships carry the highest maximum point values of the season and are designed to bring together the strongest possible fields under comparable conditions. Selection is strictly ranking based. There are no open entries, discretionary selections, or alternative qualification routes.
Competitive Weighting and Strategy
The tiered race structure is intentional. Higher tier races carry greater points potential, but also greater competitive risk due to deeper fields and smaller margins. Lower tier races offer opportunities to build consistency and protect ranking position.
Athletes and teams are encouraged to plan their season strategically. A balanced approach that combines regular participation with targeted peak performances at Regional Championships and Majors is typically more effective than a narrow focus on a small number of races.
Consistency Over Reputation
The Elite 15 system does not reward reputation or past status. Rankings reflect current performance within the rolling 365 day window. Athletes and teams must continue to earn their position regardless of previous results or titles.
This structure ensures that Elite 15 racing remains dynamic, competitive, and fair. Every race matters. Every point contributes. And every invitation is a reflection of recent performance against strong competition.
In summary, Standard Elite races build the foundation, Majors shape the global leaderboard, and the World Championships represent the ultimate expression of Elite 15 racing. Together, these tiers create a season-long competitive pathway that rewards consistency, resilience, and performance at the highest level.
Points System Explainer Video
For a step by step explanation of how the points based qualification system works in practice, including worked examples, athletes are encouraged to watch the explainer video linked HERE.
The video walks through:
- How points are calculated
- How the rolling 365 day window operates
- How tie breaks are resolved
- How rankings translate into invitations
Together, the table and explainer video are designed to remove ambiguity and give athletes full clarity on how Elite 15 qualification is earned.
A Transparent System
The Elite 15 qualification framework is designed to be clear, objective, and predictable. Rankings are published publicly. Cut-off dates are defined. Invitations follow ranking order.
Athletes always know where they stand and what is required to progress.
In summary, the points based qualification system ensures that Elite 15 start lines are earned, not assumed. It creates a dynamic, merit driven pathway where performance today matters more than reputation yesterday, and where the best athletes at any given moment are the ones invited to race.
Elite 15 competition operates on clear and consistent nationality principles that apply to both Elite 15 Singles and Elite 15 Doubles athletes.
For Elite 15 Doubles, both athletes must represent the same nationality, as determined by their passport, in order to compete together as a team. Nationality for Elite 15 purposes is defined strictly by country, not by sovereign state, region, place of residence, or permanent residency status. This ensures clear national representation and consistent application of eligibility standards across the series.
Elite 15 Singles athletes are not required to align nationality with a teammate. However, all Elite 15 Singles and Elite 15 Doubles athletes are responsible for registering for races using the nationality shown on their passport. Nationality is based solely on passport citizenship and not on where an athlete lives, trains, holds residency, or pays tax.
Athletes who hold multiple passports must declare a single nationality for Elite 15 Doubles competition at the point they first seek to earn qualification points or accept an Elite invitation. That declared nationality applies to all Elite 15 Doubles results accrued under that declaration.
If an athlete elects to change their declared nationality, any Elite 15 Doubles qualification points earned under the previous nationality declaration are forfeited and will no longer count toward rankings or invitations. From that point onward, the athlete may only accrue Elite 15 Doubles qualification points under their newly declared nationality.
Nationality changes may only take effect prospectively and must be confirmed in writing with HYROX prior to competition. Nationality cannot be changed retroactively to preserve or transfer previously earned qualification points. This approach ensures fairness within the rolling 365 day qualification framework and protects the integrity of the Elite 15 Doubles rankings.
Nationality Amnesty Period (June 2026 Only)
To support the introduction of the new nationality requirement for Pro Doubles, HYROX will offer a limited amnesty period for athletes with dual or multiple citizenships.
Who does this apply to?
This applies to athletes who:
- Hold dual or multiple citizenships, or
- Are affected by nationality alignment within the United Kingdom
What is the amnesty period?
From the conclusion of the 2026 World Championships (WC26) until 1 July 2026, eligible athletes may change their declared nationality for Elite qualification purposes.
How do I request a change?
- Email [email protected]
- Clearly state your current nationality and the nationality you wish to change to
By submitting this request, you are confirming that you hold a valid, unexpired passport for the new nationality.
Important verification requirement
- You must hold a valid passport for the nationality you declare
- You will be required to provide proof of this passport before competing in your next Elite race
- If you cannot provide valid passport evidence when requested, you will not be eligible to compete for Elite qualification points
What happens to my points?
- During the amnesty period, you may change nationality once only
- All points you have already earned will remain valid and will transfer to your new nationality
What happens after 1 July 2026?
- Any nationality change after this date will result in all previously earned points being forfeited
- Your points will reset to zero and will not be transferred
Summary
This one time amnesty allows eligible athletes to align with the new nationality rules without losing points, provided they meet the passport requirement. After the amnesty period, strict enforcement will apply to protect the integrity of the Elite qualification system.
Qualification points are always allocated based on a team’s actual finishing position in the race.
Mixed nationality doubles combinations may compete in Pro Doubles events and will appear in the official race results. However, only eligible same nationality combinations are able to accrue qualification points within the same nationality doubles qualification pathway.
If a mixed nationality team finishes ahead of eligible same nationality teams, they do not receive qualification points within that pathway. However, the eligible teams behind them do not “move up” into higher points allocations.
For example:
- If a mixed nationality team wins a Pro Doubles race, they remain the official race winners.
- If the highest placed eligible same nationality team finishes 2nd overall, they receive the points allocated to 2nd place.
- They do not inherit the points allocated to 1st place.
This approach ensures the qualification framework continues to reflect the actual race outcome, while only awarding qualification points to combinations that are eligible within the same nationality doubles pathway.
Rankings sit at the centre of the Elite 15 system for both Elite 15 Singles and Elite 15 Doubles. They determine who is invited to race, which races athletes or teams are invited to, and ultimately who earns a place on the start line at the World Championships.
Understanding how rankings are calculated, when they are assessed, and how invitations are issued is essential for all Elite 15 athletes.
Official Leaderboards
Elite 15 rankings are published and maintained on the official leaderboard at hyrox.com, with separate leaderboards for Singles and Doubles. Rankings are points based and calculated using the published qualification framework within a rolling 365 day window.
As a general rule, leaderboards are updated by 1700 hours CET each Monday, following result verification, the closure of race result challenge windows, and any immediate post-race checks. Rankings are objective and data driven.
Official results may be adjusted after a race due to validated race result challenges or the conclusion of doping control procedures. Where adjustments are required, rankings will be updated accordingly once results are deemed final. Athletes should expect a short delay between racing and seeing fully confirmed ranking positions reflected on the leaderboard.
Cut-Off Dates
Cut-off dates are defined moments in the season when rankings are assessed for selection purposes. As a general rule, cut-offs occur 21 days prior to race day, unless otherwise communicated.
Only points accrued before the cut-off date are eligible for the race in question. Points earned on the cut-off date itself, or after, are not considered for that specific race, even if the leaderboard later updates. This rule is applied consistently to ensure clarity, fairness, and operational certainty.
Cut-off dates are published in advance and are used to lock fields for upcoming Elite races, including Regional Championships, Majors, and the World Championships, for both Singles and Doubles.
Invitation Issuance
At each cut-off, Elite 15 rankings determine which athletes or teams are eligible to receive invitations. Invitations are issued strictly in ranking order to athletes or teams who meet all eligibility requirements, including holding a valid HYROX Athlete Licence at the time of selection.
Athletes or teams who do not hold a valid licence are not eligible and will not receive an invitation.
Once a field is locked, invitations are sent via email directly to athletes or teams and include a clear timeframe for acceptance or decline. Athletes and teams are expected to respond promptly.
Failure to accept or decline within the stated timeframe may result in the invitation being withdrawn and offered to the next ranked eligible athlete or team. This ensures fair roll-down opportunities and adequate preparation time for all competitors.
Roll-Downs
If an athlete or team declines an invitation, withdraws after initially accepting, or fails to respond within the acceptance window, a roll-down will occur.
Roll-downs are processed strictly in ranking order within the relevant category and apply only to athletes or teams who are eligible and licensed at the time the roll-down is actioned. Athletes or teams who are unavailable, unlicensed, or unresponsive are skipped.
For Elite 15 Doubles, both athletes must meet all eligibility requirements, including nationality alignment and licensing, at the time of roll-down for the team to be considered.
Rankings Are Dynamic
Rankings continue to evolve throughout the season. An athlete or team invited to one Elite race is not guaranteed an invitation to the next. Likewise, an athlete or team outside the invitation threshold at one cut-off may move into an eligible position later in the season through strong performances and points accumulation.
The Elite 15 system is intentionally dynamic. Invitations reflect current performance, not past reputation or historical status.
Clarity by Design
The rankings and invitation system is designed to be simple and transparent:
Rankings on the leaderboard determine invitations
Invitations determine who races
Race results update the rankings
This cycle repeats across the season for both Elite 15 Singles and Elite 15 Doubles, providing athletes with a clear, predictable framework for planning competition and progression.

Any unused invitation spots are released back into general sale 30 days before the event.
How much does the 26/27 HYROX Athlete License application cost?
The 26/27 HYROX Athlete License application costs:
EUR 347 plus applicable taxes
How do Doubles invitations and benefits work?
Doubles invitations and benefits are based on the ranking of the defined pair, not individual athletes.
To qualify:
- A doubles pair must be ranked inside the Top 50 as a combination
- If a Top 50 doubles pair registers together, both athletes can use one of their included allocations to cover the full team entry
What happens if I change doubles partners?
If you change partners:
- The new pairing is treated as a new team
- The new team must independently qualify inside the Top 50
- If the new pairing is not Top 50, they will not receive doubles invitations or allocation benefits
Top 50 doubles status is earned and applied as a pair and does not transfer across different partnerships.
How is eligibility determined?
Eligibility is determined weekly based on the live rankings at the time invitation emails are sent.
- Top 50 means Top 50
- If you are outside the Top 50 at the time invitations are issued, you will not receive invitations that week
- If you move back into the Top 50 the following week, you become eligible again
Summary
The updated Athlete License system is designed to:
- Simplify global race access
- Improve athlete experience
- Reward performance and consistency
- Support the continued growth of the HYROX Elite Series pathway
The Elite Athlete License is only required for:
• Athletes entering the Elite qualification pathway
• Athletes competing in Elite 15 races
Holding a HYROX Athlete License is designed to support athletes who are committed to competing at the highest level of the sport. It provides a structured pathway into Elite competition and ensures alignment with the standards required for fairness, integrity, and performance.
It is important to note that the license provides eligibility and access within defined criteria. It does not confer automatic privileges or commercial advantages.
Key points:
- Eligibility for Elite rankings and qualification pathways
Only licensed athletes can earn points towards Elite 15 rankings and qualification for Elite races, Majors, and World Championships. -
Wave 1 seeding (performance-based)
Licensed athletes may be eligible for Wave 1 seeding in Pro races.
This is not automatic and is strictly based on meeting defined performance thresholds within the qualifying window:Singles (Pro):
- Men: 57:04
- Women: 1:03:21
Doubles (Pro):
- Men: 54:30
- Women: 1:00:30
- Mixed: 58:00
Only athletes/teams who meet or exceed these times (within the valid performance window) will be seeded in Wave 1.
- Commitment to integrity of the sport
The license formalises an athlete’s agreement to compete under the HYROX Rulebook and Anti-Doping Code, supporting a fair and consistent competitive environment.
What the license does not include:
- No discounted or subsidised race entries
- No priority, early, or exclusive access to race tickets
- No late entry or special allocation outside standard registration processes
All athletes, including license holders, are required to register for races through the standard public entry system and within the same timelines as all other competitors.
In essence, the HYROX Athlete License enables access to the Elite competitive framework, while maintaining a level playing field across the broader racing community.
The HYROX Athlete License is valid for one season and expires at the end of the last day at the World Championships.
There is no prorated price point based on when in the season you choose to purchase it. The decision over timing of purchase is the athletes responsibility.
Anyone is welcome to apply for a HYROX Athlete License. While not required for general participation, these licenses are intended for athletes who aspire to qualify for and compete in the Elite 15 race series.
By holding an Athlete License, you agree to comply with HYROX anti-doping regulations and submit to testing as part of a mutual commitment to fair and clean sport.

Elite racing operates on the principle that results must be accurate, fair, and defensible. This applies equally to Elite 15 Singles and Elite 15 Doubles, across Pro races used for qualification and all Elite level races.
While robust judging, timing, and oversight systems are in place, HYROX recognises that questions may occasionally arise. The race result challenge and appeal framework exists to address those situations in a structured, transparent, and final manner that protects the integrity of competition.
Provisional and Final Results
Official results are provisional immediately after a race. This allows time for post-race verification, review of penalties, confirmation of repetitions and distances, and completion of required operational checks. Results only become final once these checks are complete and the defined challenge and appeal processes have concluded.
Yes. HYROX operates a dedicated VAR (Video Assistant Review) system at Elite races to support real-time decision making and uphold the integrity of competition.
The VAR system includes:
- A dedicated remote Race Direction team
- A network of fixed and mobile cameras with trained operators across the course
- A live feed into the Technical Director of Elite Racing, who has access to replay screens in real time on the race floor
This system is fully integrated into race operations and is used during the race, not after it.
What this achieves:
- Enhanced in-race decision making
Key incidents can be reviewed in real time, allowing the Race Director team to make informed, accurate decisions as the race unfolds. - Clarity and confidence in finishing positions
Outcomes are determined during the race itself, ensuring that results reflect what happened on the field of play. - Reduced need for post-race challenges
As decisions are reviewed and resolved in real time, the scope for disputes after the race is significantly reduced.
In line with this approach:
- In-race decisions (including repetitions, movement standards, and course compliance) are final and managed by the judging and Race Direction teams.
- Race result challenges are limited to alleged unsporting behaviour only.
This model protects athlete well-being, removes post-race uncertainty, and reinforces trust in the fairness and professionalism of Elite competition.
At Elite level, race result challenges are limited in scope. A challenge may only be raised on the following grounds:
- Alleged unsporting behaviour
Challenges relating to judging style, perceived inconsistency, tactical decisions, or general dissatisfaction with outcomes are not valid grounds for a race result challenge.
Submission Window and Method
Elite athletes from each given race wishing to submit a race result challenge must do so in writing to [email protected] within 60 minutes of the conclusion of the race.
For the purposes of this process, the conclusion of the race is defined as the moment the last athlete in that race crosses the finish line, not when an individual athlete or team finishes.
Challenges submitted outside this window will not be considered. Verbal challenges, informal conversations, or commentary via social media do not constitute a valid submission.
Evidence Is Mandatory
A valid race result challenge must:
- Clearly identify the athlete or team concerned
- Specify the exact workstation or race segment
- Describe the nature of the alleged issue
- Be accompanied by supporting evidence at the time of submission
Evidence may include video footage, photographs, or other verifiable material.
Challenges submitted without accompanying evidence are invalid and will not be reviewed.
While athletes are responsible for providing evidence to support a challenge, responsibility for verification, assessment, and decision making sits with HYROX.
Once a valid challenge is received, it is reviewed by the Elite Technical Director and relevant technical personnel. The review may include examination of judging records, timing data, broadcast footage, or VAR material where available. Reviews are conducted objectively and without presumption of fault.
Where a challenge is upheld, official results will be amended accordingly. Where a challenge is not upheld, the original result will stand.
Appeals and the Competition Jury
If a party wishes to appeal the outcome of a race result challenge, an appeal may be submitted to [email protected] within 24 hours of the outcome notice.
Appeals are not a re-officiation of the race or a re-judging of field-of-play decisions. Appeals are reviewed by the Competition Jury, which acts as the final authority on competition outcomes within its jurisdiction.
Role and Authority of the Competition Jury
The Competition Jury has authority to review formal appeals to determine whether:
- Competition rules were applied correctly
- Procedures were followed appropriately
The Jury may confirm or amend results, penalties, or disqualifications where appropriate. It does not reinterpret the rulebook or overturn field-of-play decisions without compelling evidence of procedural error or misconduct.
The Competition Jury is composed of five members with technical, regulatory, operational, and athlete welfare expertise. Once a ruling is issued, it is considered final, except in exceptional circumstances such as confirmed technical malfunction or verified anti-doping sanctions.
Doping Control Adjustments
Official results may also be amended following the conclusion of doping control procedures. In the event of an adverse finding or sanction, results may be adjusted in accordance with the HYROX Anti-Doping Code and WADA-aligned processes. Such amendments may occur after initial publication and may impact rankings, qualification points, prize money, and invitations.
Professional Conduct
Race result challenges and appeals are a professional and private process between the challenger and HYROX sports officials. Social media is not an appropriate forum for raising, debating, or attempting to influence challenges or appeals. Public commentary or pressure outside formal channels undermines competition integrity and may result in disciplinary action.
Disagreement is addressed through evidence and defined process, not opinion or public narrative.
Finality and Integrity
This framework exists to protect clean competition while ensuring clarity and finality. It allows genuine issues to be addressed without creating uncertainty or retrospective instability.
In summary, Elite 15 results are protected by clear timelines, mandatory evidence standards, independent review, and final governance. Athletes who engage with the process in good faith can trust that outcomes are fair, consistent, and aligned with the highest standards of professional sport.
Elite 15 racing operates under a strict commitment to fair and clean sport. Integrity is foundational to the credibility of the Elite 15 series and applies equally to Elite 15 Singles and Elite 15 Doubles, across Pro races used for qualification and all Elite races.
All athletes seeking to qualify for or compete in Elite 15 racing are subject to HYROX anti-doping regulations. These regulations are aligned fully with World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) guidelines, ensuring that testing procedures, athlete rights, result management, and sanctions meet internationally recognised standards used across professional sport.
Licence-Based Compliance
By holding a HYROX Athlete Licence, athletes formally agree to comply with the HYROX Anti-Doping Code and to submit to doping controls as required. This agreement is a condition of eligibility.
Without compliance, an athlete cannot:
- Earn Elite 15 qualification points at Pro races
- Receive invitations to Elite races
- Compete at Majors, or the (Elite) World Championships
These requirements apply equally to Singles and Doubles. In Doubles competition, both athletes are individually subject to anti-doping obligations. A violation by one athlete affects the team.
Doping Controls at Pro and Elite Races
Doping controls may be conducted at:
- Pro races
- Majors
- (Elite) World Championships
Testing is not limited to podium finishers. HYROX may test up to five pairs of athletes from each gender category, reflecting the depth and competitiveness of Elite fields.
Selected athletes are notified immediately after finishing, typically while still on the stage. Once notified, a chaperone is assigned to the athlete.
From that point onward, it is the athlete’s responsibility to maintain continuity with the chaperone. This responsibility sits with the athlete, not with HYROX or the chaperone. Athletes must remain in direct contact at all times until the testing process is complete.
It is not permitted to return to the wall ball area or any other part of the race floor after leaving the finish area once selected for testing.
Continuity and Missed Tests
If contact with the chaperone is broken at any point, the situation will be assessed on a case-by-case basis by a Doping Commission representative. Depending on the circumstances, the test may be allowed to continue or may be recorded as a missed test, which may be treated as an adverse finding under the applicable anti-doping regulations.
Athletes are expected to prioritise continuity above all other post-race activities.
DNFs and Testing Obligations
Doping controls may also apply to athletes who do not finish their race.
If an athlete DNFs in an Elite race, they must present themselves immediately to:
- The Technical Race Director, or
- The stated Race Directors
DNF athletes remain subject to doping controls and must stay available until the official end of their race, defined as the conclusion of the award ceremony for that race. Leaving the venue or failing to remain available before this point may be considered a failure to comply.
Athlete Responsibility for Substances
Athletes are responsible for ensuring that all substances they ingest comply with WADA regulations. This responsibility applies at all times and includes, but is not limited to:
- Prescribed medications
- Supplements
- Over-the-counter products
At the point of sample collection, each athlete will be required to declare any medications, supplements, or substances they have used within the relevant period. This declaration forms part of the official doping control process and must be accurate and complete.
Lack of intent, ignorance, or reliance on third-party advice is not considered a defence. Responsibility always sits with the athlete, whether competing in Singles or Doubles.
Sanctions and Consequences
Failure to comply with anti-doping requirements may result in sanctions including:
- Disqualification of results
- Loss of qualification points
- Suspension from competition
- Removal of Elite 15 eligibility
Sanctions may affect both current and future invitations and may apply retroactively in accordance with WADA-aligned procedures.
In Doubles competition, sanctions applied to one athlete may invalidate the team’s result.
You can view the HYROX Anti Doping Code HERE.
Therapeutic Use Exemptions (TUEs)
Therapeutic Use Exemptions exist to allow athletes with legitimate medical conditions to use otherwise prohibited substances when clinically necessary.
An application for a TUE can be made using the form HERE.
Any required TUE must:
- Be approved in advance
- Be valid at the time of competition
Athletes must submit TUE documentation to [email protected] at least one week prior to planned competition. Competing without an approved exemption places the athlete or team at risk of sanction.
Integrity within the Elite 15 extends beyond doping controls. Athletes are expected to compete honestly, respect officials and fellow competitors, and engage with competition processes in a professional manner.
Attempts to manipulate results, influence judging, interfere with testing, or undermine competition processes are treated seriously and may result in disciplinary action beyond race-day penalties.
A Shared Responsibility
Elite 15 racing relies on trust. Athletes trust that their competitors are racing clean. Fans and partners trust that performances are credible. HYROX trusts licensed athletes to meet the standards they agree to when entering the Elite system.
