ZX Spectrum: Simple Machine Language Raycaster (demo)

Armed only with William Tang’s “Spectrum Machine Language for the Absolute Beginner”, I’ve somehow thrown together my first piece of Spectrum Machine Language programming in the form of a very simple Raycaster for Sir Clive’s wonder machine. Upfront, this isn’t a game, but a proof of concept that runs with snail pace with all the grace of a PowerPoint, heavy on the slide transitions. There are also a *lot* of graphical glitches, particularly when close up walls and when the intercept angle of the ray with a wall is small in certain grid directions. All of these are because I’ve done my best approximating to avoid needing to use floating point math and it shows…

Jurassic Park III GBA Games: Three times the … wha?

Three GameBoy Advance games…. Three… all tied-in with Jurassic Park III… it’s even stranger considering that ol’ JP III didn’t get much game love outside of the GBA aside from a couple of low-key PC releases.

… and I like Jurassic Park III. I’ve always had a soft spot for it. Hand on heart, I prefer Alan Grant’s Isla Sorna (Site B) vacation to the one that Ian Malcolm took in The Lost World. Jurassic Park III isn’t sophisticated, but it hits all the right JP notes and even has the memorable introduction of the Spinosaurus and iconic ‘Birdcage’ sequence which is undoubtedly the high point of the film and the bit that everyone remembers.

Nevertheless, I’m still baffled why it received three GBA games to its name.
