Sustainable Logistics is the application of principles from sustainability to logistics, i.e., th... more Sustainable Logistics is the application of principles from sustainability to logistics, i.e., the functions of transportation, warehousing, and packaging. It is a part of Sustainable Supply Chain Management and includes the concepts of Green Logistics and City Logistics. Green Logistics is a logistical concept, which mainly deals with the environmental dimension of the Triple Bottom Line and aims at the alignment of the logistical functions with the targets of environmental sustainability, i.e., improvement of resource efficiency and reduction of emissions. In essence, Green Logistics combines the "six R's" of logistics with the targets of environmental sustainability concerning resource consumption and environmental friendliness. This means that the task of Green Logistics is to make the right quantity of the right product available at the right place and the right time in the right condition for the right cost ("six R's") while keeping resource consumption and emissions as low as possible (environmental sustainability). City Logistics is the improvement of the supply of urban areas with goods. This includes not only deliveries but also return logistics. In contrast to city planning, City Logistics mainly uses existing public infrastructure. Targets of city logistics are the relief of the strain on transport infrastructure (e.g., less traffic congestion, fewer accidents) and the reduction of emissions, particularly direct emissions such as noise, particulate matter, and nitric oxide.

Targets of city logistics are the relief of the strain on the transport infrastructure and the reduction of mostly direct emissions such as nitric oxide. The German CEP industry (courier, express and parcel) plays a major role in supplying cities with necessary goods. However, it also has negative impacts on the quality of living in urban areas such as exhaust and greenhouse gas emissions and blocked roads. To dampen these negative effects, the CEP service provider UPS (United Parcel Service) uses micro depots as a more sustainable alternative for parcel delivery.

In times of a pandemic many university courses have to be taught in an online learning format to ... more In times of a pandemic many university courses have to be taught in an online learning format to respect the requirements of social distancing. Online learning takes place between the poles of self-direction by the student and guidance by the lecturer. In this paper a first-semester course in industrial economics for engineers, which was taught in the self-directed learning format of flipped classroom, was enhanced with lesson activities in the Learning Management System (LMS) Moodle as a means of guided learning with student-content interaction. The paper describes the design and the evaluation of the lesson activities. For the evaluation a student survey to gather the opinions and self-assessments of the students was conducted, and statistical data from Moodle on the performance of the students were collected. Das vorliegende Working Paper beschreibt die Entwicklung eines Planspiels zur Simulation selektiv... more Das vorliegende Working Paper beschreibt die Entwicklung eines Planspiels zur Simulation selektiver Lagerhaltungsstrategien im Distributionsnetzwerk. Die Gestaltung der Distributionsstruktur hat Auswirkungen auf den Lieferservice und die Kosten (Standort-, Bestands-und Transportkosten), die im Planspiel simuliert werden können. Dabei werden insbesondere Aspekte der zentralen und dezentralen Lagerung sowie der Bestandsbündelung und des Sicherheitsbestandes vermittelt. Das Planspiel wurde in MS Excel umgesetzt und in zwei Kursen getestetin einem Bachelor-und einem MBA-Kurs. Trotz der geringen Komplexität wurde eine vertiefte Lernerfahrung der Studierenden erzielt, die sich durch das selbsttätige Ausprobieren und den Spielspaß bei der Lösungssuche ergab.

Somit bewegt sich das Innovationsmanagement im Spannungsfeld aus verpasster Innovationschance und kostspieligem Innovationsflop (vgl. Deckert, 2014, S. 26). Um Innovationschancen zu erkennen und Innovationsflops zu vermeiden, lässt sich die Portfoliotechnik zum Management von Innovationsprojekten einsetzen.

The relation of national innovativeness and national culture has been firmly established by research. Cultural factors, however, influence national innovativeness via different mechanisms on the macro-, meso-, and micro-level of a country. In our article, we build on existing research on the link between cultural dimensions and national innovativeness to develop a new model that classifies different cultural dimensions in groups according to their mechanism: political, social, or individual (PSI-model). Using a newly established data set composed of world data, we test and find support for this model using a variety of regression models. The PSI-model provides a more structured theoretical background of the impact of different cultural dimensions on national innovativeness, especially with regard to social practices and social values. In dem Beitrag In drei Wochen von Duisburg nach Peking-Ist die Bahn eine Transportalternative für die deutsche Stahlindustrie? von Carola Obermeier-Hartmann und Eric Sucky wird die von China geplante "Neue Seidenstraße" betrachtet, d.h. Chinas "Belt and Road Initiative" (BRI), welche neue Handelsrouten zwischen Asien, Afrika und Europa schaffen sowie alte wiederbeleben soll. Der Beitrag beschäftigt sich mit der Frage, ob die Bahn eine Alternative zum Schiff auf der Route von Europa nach Asien sein kann. Während in bisherigen Veröffentlichungen insbesondere auf die Zeitersparnis auf der Route von China nach Deutschland abgestellt wurde und produktunspezifische Analysen erfolgten, fokussieren sich Carola Obermeier-Hartmann und Eric Sucky konkret auf das Produkt Stahl. Aspekte des Supply Chain Managements stehen im Fokus der weiteren Beiträge. Supply Chain Management beschreibt die an den Kundenbedürfnissen ausgerichtete, kooperative Planung, Steuerung und Kontrolle von produkt-oder produktgruppenbezogenen, unternehmensübergreifenden Wertschöpfungsnetzwerken mit dem Ziel, die Wettbewerbsfähigkeit sowohl der einzelnen Supply Chain-Akteure als auch der gesamten Supply Chain zu erhöhen. Es umfasst dabei sowohl die zielgerichtete Gestaltung der einzelnen Supply Chain-Ebenen als auch die zielgerichtete Koordination der Prozesse in der Supply Chain.. Um Supply Chains robust, resilient und agil zu gestalten, bedarf es daher Flexibilitätspotenziale. Da deren Aufbau mit Kosten verbunden ist, ist Flexibilität an der Stelle im Güterfluss einer Supply Chain zu positionieren, an dem sie einen hohen Nutzen erzeugt. Immanuel Zitzmann untersucht in seinem Beitrag Positionierung von Flexibilität in der Supply Chain, wo Flexibilitätspotenziale in einer Supply Chain den höchsten Beitrag zur Bewältigung von Unsicherheiten leisten können.
