Dear HP Fandom & Hex Files members,

Here is where I would like to ask for your help!

You'd like us to import your works, but you need the notification sent to a different email address than you used on the original archive You already have an AO3 account and have imported your works already yourself. You’d like to import your works yourself (including if you don’t have an AO3 account yet). You would NOT like your works moved to the AO3. You are happy for us to preserve your works on the AO3, but would like them to remove your name. If you have any other questions they can help you with.
Please include the name of the archive(s) in the subject heading of your email. If you've posted the works elsewhere, or have an easy way to verify that they're yours, that's great. If you don't, they will work with me to confirm your claims.
Current Mood: contemplative

Well, much has happened.
First of all, thank you all for your offers of help. As always, I am humbled by the show of support from the fandom. Our funding has increaded to cover 6 months, so that aspect is good.
I said I am tired, but I have always been very conflicted about letting go of the archives. They are like my children, and I would miss them if they were no longer "with me." However, they are in need of a serious overhaul, with their software needing to be upgraded to a better, less buggy version of e-fiction. That is something I am incapable of doing.
For the time being, I am going to keep entries closed on both archives and find someone who can do the necessary updating. Thank you for sticking with me. Current Location: United States, Maryland, Salisbury Current Mood: sore

Here is where we stand. Currently there are two supported methods of remediation.
The system is taken offline and the primary drive is set removed and aside. The OS is then reinstalled and the primary drive is set as a secondary drive and then mounted so that files can be restored. The system will be offline for the duration of the reinstall as well as the recovery.
Another option is to speak with our sales team and purchase a new system with a freshly installed OS so that the data can be migrated while keeping the infected server online until the migration is completed.
Will be discussing the options, but it looks like we will be taking the server down to reinstall, as long as it does not require me to do something technologically adept like make a back-up of stuff I do not know how to back up. :) This will give me at least three months to work with Walter at squidge.org and get that process rolling. Because that process might be less work than trying to migrate it all to AO3. Current Location: United States, Maryland, Salisbury Current Mood: hopeful

There appears to be an issue on the server that gets us listed on spamhaus as being bad. There is a bot running on it or something like that. I am not a technical person, and it appears that to correct it might entail either doing some back up restart (I am not capable technologically of doing this) or moving to a different server with the same host, and I do not know what that server will cost. The jury is still out on that.
The donations do trickle in, and we stay at roughly 3 months worth of funding in reserve because of how the funds arrive in dribs and drabs. And honestly, I am grateful for every penny we get. However, I am getting tired. So perhaps once the funding runs out it will be time to hang up my fan fiction hat. I really dislike saying that, because it's been a great time and I've tried so hard to stay afloat, but without the sites being upgraded to a different version of e-fiction (and me not being capable of upgrading them) I cannot foresee the sites continuing.
So you are getting at the very most three months notice to save your favorites, but depending on what the new sever is going to charge, it could be less. So as of today I will be turning off the option that allows for new submissions so that everyone can begin saving. I do apologize for having to take this action, but I just don't see an alternative. Migrating to AO3 is not an option--too much work involved. Current Location: United States, Maryland, Salisbury Current Mood: frustrated

Hello. We are beginning to get low in the funding area again. As of this writing, I have about three months left. Just a heads up. Current Location: United States, Maryland, Salisbury Current Mood: hot Current Music: none

I am aware that we are down. This is an ongoing issue that I am working on. My apologies.

SingleHop is closing our CHI-2 Data Center at the end of 2014, and moving all customers to a brand new state of the art Data Center nearby. Your servers have been identified as the last customer hardware that remains to be relocated from this facility. We have scheduled these servers to be migrated to our new Data Center December 13th at the times below.
Dec 13, 2014 8:00 PM - 11:59 PM CST
Once your servers are moved, they will be able to take advantage of the enhanced services available at the new facility.
During this time frame, your infrastructure will need to be taken offline for up to four (4) hours. We have conducted substantial planning and preparation to keep this downtime to a minimum and will do anything in our power to minimize migration time.

A quick update here.
Fandom once again came through and we can cover our hosting bills. Some of the more stressful aspects of the archives are gone. The forums were bot magnets that filled my mailbox with sometimes 50+ "members" a day. Without that aspect, it is much easier for me to deal with things.
I'm still recovering from shoulder surgery and I am a bit groggy today from pain meds I took last night, so I will get more in depth with amounts and time frames in a day or so when I am better able to focus. No more pain pills for me.

| » The Future of The Archives |
We are down to our last month of hosting for both The Hex Files and HPFandom. I have always said that I would like to keep the archives active and available for everyone, but it's starting to wear on me.
I had been in talks with AO3 to transfer the archives to them, but in all honesty, I am one person and because the archives are in eFiction version 1, they just can't be automatically moved. It would require me hand entering each and every link for each story into their system. We are talking about over 8,000 stories. I would love to be able to move them, but it's just too much for me to even comprehend doing.
I could keep asking for funds, but I really dislike doing that, and I will not use ads. The logical conclusion for me is to let the archives go. I have enjoyed being here for the fandom, and I am so very thankful for everything that has been done for us over the years. Please know that I am very conflicted about this.
With that in mind, that gives you the readers, a months time to save what you want to save.
