Hope’s Home Inc. respects the privacy of our donors, volunteers, families and other stakeholders.
Hope’s Home Inc. respects the privacy of all our constituents, including donors, volunteers, families and other stakeholders, and has adopted a privacy policy based on the principles outlined in the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) Model Code for the Protection of Personal Information. This Model Code (CAN/CSA-Q830) is widely regarded in Canada as an appropriate standard for the handling of personal information.
We also adhere to the privacy guidelines set by Imagine Canada, formerly, the Canadian Centre for Philanthropy, which provides rigorous standards for charitable and non-profit organizations in Canada. In addition, our policy complies with the Donor Bill of Rights developed by the Association of Fundraising Professionals, the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy, Council for Advancement and Support of Education and the Giving Institute.
The Saskatchewan HIPA (Health Information Privacy Act) applies to Hope’s Home, front line staff, including nurses, who gather personal health information about the children we care for. Personal health information is defined as information about an individual’s physical or mental health and/or information gathered while providing health service. All staff adhere to policies and procedures regarding privacy and confidentiality to ensure compliance and accountability.
Hope’s Home Inc. Stakeholder Privacy Policy serves to outline the rules for the collection, use, disclosure and retention of personal information.
Hope’s Home is accountable for overall compliance with its Privacy Policies and each department head acts as the contact person on information, privacy and security matters in their specific area. When Hope’s Home collects personal information directly from its constituents, it will identify the purposes for which personal information is collected at or before the time of collection. These purposes include donor, employee or volunteer recruitment and engagement; that which is necessary for the administration of the interests of a donor, employee or volunteer; and compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
The knowledge and consent of a person is required for the direct collection, use or disclosure of personal information except where mandated by law.
This consent may be either expressed or implied. Express consent can be given orally, electronically or in writing. Implied consent is consent that can reasonably be inferred from an individual’s action or inaction.

Hope’s Home will limit the collection of personal information to that which is necessary for the purposes identified. Information will be collected by fair and lawful means.
Personal information will not be used or disclosed for purposes other than those for which it was collected, except with the consent of the person or as required by law. Personal information will be retained only as long as necessary for the fulfillment of those purposes. The Foundation does not trade, rent or sell any personal information to third parties.
Hope’s Home website contains online forms that allow visitors to donate. The personal and credit card information provided on these forms is used only to process these donations, although the donor’s name and address will be retained in our database. Online donations to Hope’s Home are processed through a third party who adheres to all industry standards and regulations, protecting the donor’s personal information.
Hope’s Home ensures personal information is accurate, complete and as up to date as necessary for the purposes for which it is to be used. Donors who request that their name and/or amount of the gift not be publicly released shall remain anonymous.
Personal information is protected with security safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information. All Hope’s Home employees, volunteers, and directors must sign a Confidentiality Agreement. In addition, all independent contractors, or vendors that have a working relationship with Hope’s Home proprietary database, must sign a Confidentiality Agreement.
All Hope’s Home employees receive mandatory Privacy Training.
