Do you ever call friends or use the Internet when flying or do you use airplane time as an opportunity to unwind, read, or talk to strangers? How do you usually pass the time when you’re in the air?
Since I do an airplane travel marathon twice a year (once to America, once back to Japan), this is one that hits pretty close to literal-home for me. When I'm on an airplane, I sleep if I can (very important when I'm doing trains, planes and automobiles for about 36 hours each way), read, occasionally chat with a seatmate, or play a game/watch a movie on my screen on the international flights. It's one of the few times I'm truly unplugged from the Internet, and honestly, I kind of like it that way. When I have Internet access, I get a bit lazy about my passing-the-time options. I'm also one of the very small minority of double-x types that doesn't like talking on the phone. Travel is a good time to get lost in a book.
My goodness, this was beautiful! And it feels like something Lewis could have written….or at least, something he would have thoroughly approved of. Thank you for writing this, and for sharing it!
