Fold-up "table tents" for my Zenopus con game, so I and the otherplayers can quickly tell who everybody is.

Fold-up "table tents" for my Zenopus con game, so I and the other players can quickly tell who everybody is. At North Texas I wrote these out beforehand, but since I'm running this repeatedly I decided to make a printable sheet. Eventually I will re-design these to include portraits by Chris Holmes which will also be on the character sheets. The font is a faux medieval font I found call Blackwood Castle, more readable than actual Olde English fonts. Futura is of course even more readable but has less flavor. #brazenheadofzenopus

My "Return to the Tower of Zenopus" con scenario is now retitled In Search of the Brazen Head of Zenopus.

My "Return to the Tower of Zenopus" con scenario is now retitled In Search of the Brazen Head of Zenopus. As mentioned previously, Mike Mearls is running a "Return to the Tower of Zenopus" at Gary Con this year, so this motivated me to change the title. I like the new title better, as it's both more original and more descriptive. After all, it's not really a return to the Tower, just the dungeons, plus finding the missing talking mask is a "win" for the scenario (Murray wants it, naturally). The "In search of" is of course a nod to the title of B1. The other part comes from an old post about the talking mask, linked below. #brazenheadofzenopus

My Gary Con XI game has been approved!

My Gary Con XI game has been approved! It's the same adventure as last year that I ran at North Texas but not Gary Con (because I had to cancel). It's now retitled In Search of the Brazen Head of Zenopus due to Mike Mearls using "Return to the Tower of Zenopus" for his game. I'm actually happier with the new title as it is more original and describes the goal of the con game. Murray wants that talking mask!

I've only submitted one session so far, for Fri morning 9-1. I'm still trying to decide on another time. My game won't appear on the Gary Con schedule until after they close registration (late December). They have 16 pages of games up now, but they are all Featured Events. #brazenheadofzenopus

Last night I was checking the partially filled-out Gary Con XI schedule, trying to decide when to schedule my games to run, when I did a double take. There is already a Return to the Tower of Zenopus game on the schedule! Now there were three different Zenopus events at NTX last year, so it's not completely surprising, although they all had slightly different titles. It turns out that this one is being run by Mike Mearls, the guy who is basically in charge of 5E D&D design...! #brazenheadofzenopus

Folks attending Garycon next year --- any time preferences for my game, Return to the Tower of Zenopus?

Folks attending Garycon next year --- any time preferences for my game, Return to the Tower of Zenopus? I'll probably run it twice, once Fri, once Sat. Last year I scheduled for morning (9-1), but I actually enjoyed running it in the evening at North Texas, so I was thinking about that too. #brazenheadofzenopus

Back home after a game-filled #ntrpgcon.

Back home after a game-filled #ntrpgcon. I shared many games here as I played them, but didn't have time for my last event --- Saturday night's Return to the Tower of Zenopus. A big thank you to my players for a fantastic game! Going around the table from my left we had an enthusiatic Henry Grohe (Sunna), Allan Grohe (Maximillian the Centaur), Jonathan Perkel (Boinger), Carl Heyl (Bardan the Dwarf), Courtney Heyl (Hortensa the Amazon), Chris Holmes (Olaf & Haldor), Jimm Johnson (Sir Geoffrey), Keith Sloan (Murray the M-U) and Noah Green (Zereth). #brazenheadofzenopus

I'm going to playtest the Return to the Tower of Zenopus with the Local Group tomorrow night.

I'm going to playtest the Return to the Tower of Zenopus with the Local Group tomorrow night. In anticipation of running it next Sat at NTX. For those who missed it at Gary Con, it should be much improved by the time I run it there next year. I had several good ideas for additions/tweaks in the time since then. Currently about six pages of text, I will eventually make it available publicly. #brazenheadofzenopus

Adding Maximillian the Centaur to the bullpen of pre-gens for the Return to the Tower of Zenopus game at #ntrpgcon

Adding Maximillian the Centaur to the bullpen of pre-gens for the Return to the Tower of Zenopus game at #ntrpgcon . Line-up so far - Boinger, Zereth, Murray, Hortensa, Geoffrey, Ambrose, Bardan, Olaf, Maximillian. I was going to have Haldor also, essentially identical to Olaf, but Ajax might be more interesting. Other possibilities I'm considering are Sunna the barmaid (perhaps as a thief?) and Serjeant Lemnos of the Amazons. #brazenheadofzenopus

So there are three different Zenopus games scheduled for #ntrpgcon now!

So there are three different Zenopus games scheduled for #ntrpgcon now!

As announced previously, Steven Muchow is running his "Ruined Tower of Zenopus - 40 years later" on Friday evening, using the Black Hack system:

Bill Barsh of Pacesetter games is running three sessions of a "What Depths Zenopus" tournament for AD&D 1E, on Wed evening, Thursday afternoon and Friday morning. It sounds like this is a fleshed out version of the original dungeon. https://tabletop.events/conventions/ntrpgcon-2018/schedule/375
(Wed listing, click on game title to find other listings)

Since all of the above are Wed-Fri, and the con is short on games for Sat, I submitted my "Return to the Tower of Zenopus" Holmes+OD&D scenario for Saturday afternoon, and it's now listed:

Plus we have Carl Heyl (member here) running a "Discos and Dragons: Holmes Basic using 70s resources" session on Friday afternoon:

A good showing for the 40th anniversary year of Holmes Basic!

Here's the description for my game for Gary Con X

Here's the description for my game for Gary Con X
"Return to the Tower of Zenopus"
Forty years ago adventurers first braved the dungeon under the ruined tower of the wizard Zenopus. Fearsome monsters were overcome and fabulous treasure recovered, but the doom of Zenopus was never revealed. The stairway leading down to the dangerous passages was eventually bricked over by order of Lady Lemunda, current ruler of prosperous Portown. However, recently your party uncovered a previously unknown means of entry. What secrets remain to be discovered in the old dungeons? Meet at the Green Dragon Inn and adventure as Boinger, Zereth, Murray or another character from J. Eric Holmes' stories. This adventure from the Zenopus Archives celebrates the 40th anniversary of the Holmes Basic D&D set. #garyconx #brazenheadofzenopus
