Bryane Michael

Dr. Bryane Michael (FRSA, FCIArb, CIA, CISA, AICP) works on using quantitative analysis to make better laws. Such analysis includes complex risk models covering entire economies, machine learning, standard DSGE models, Markov Chain and a host of other models. As a Senior Fellow at the University of Hong Kong’s Faculty of Law since 2011, his recent work has focused on the way information economics (Web3 technologies/ FinTech) might affect globalisation and international development.

His roughly 70 publications combined rank in the top 1% on Google scholar, the SSRN network and the other major academic pre-print sites for law and economics.

He has taught over 500 students and over 2,000 executives often using the Socratic Method) based in Oxford University for over 10 years. He simultaneously served as a visiting professor and/or senior fellow at the University of Paris (1 year), Stockholm School of Economics (1 year), ILO-ITC Turin School (2 years), Skolkovo-Moscow School of Management (5 years), Columbia University (1 year at SIPA), Gotenberg University, and CEIBS. He has lectured at over 150 universities world-wide, on topics ranging from e-government to crypto-currencies. Roughly 60 include guest lectures for various MBA courses at business schools.

He has done his doctoral work at Harvard (cross-registering into MIT as well while still an undergrad) and Oxford in economics, and his master’s work in law at King’s College London’s Dickson Poon School of Law.

His research has won about 70 awards and fellowships from academic foundations, governments, and charities. He has helped win over $5 million in research grant money across the world since 2003.

He speaks English, French and Spanish and can manage in Russian and Turkish.
