Ruby played the Winchesters from the beginning. In No Rest for the Wicked, she says as much to Sam. "Manipulative is in the job description." Like Lucifer, Ruby says she won't lie to him. However, she doesn't tell Sam how to defeat Lilith in season 3 because there is no way Dean would allow Sam to use the demon blood. She had to get rid of Dean. The best way to get Sam on her side is to act like she's trying to save Dean. Her plan all along was to be the one to free Lucifer from the cage. SHE'S GLOATING!
