Halloween Horrors in 28mm Scale Miniatures That Go Bump In The Night

Halloween is nearly upon us! Here is a small collection of some of my previous painted miniatures that seem appropriate for evoking the season.

Is it the wind that moans through the tombstones of the cemetery or is it the sounds of ghosts risen from their graves? 

The zombie horde is on the move in search of fresh brains!

Under the autumn full moon, the cursed werewolf bounds through the countryside looking for its next meal. 

The ancient mummy shambles along, seeking revenge on those who foolishly violated its tomb.

Mutated by underground nuclear tests, the colony of giant ants swarms from the nest in search of new food sources.

Rising from the grave, the moldering skeletal warrior prepares to protect the tomb from unwary treasure seekers.

Straight from the writings of H. P. Lovecraft comes the faceless horror with its many hungry maws.

Cavorting under the silver moon, cultists chant ancient incantations to open the door between worlds to summon the Elder Gods.

Faced with the unwelcome Halloween horrors, the town folk grab what weapons are available and prepare to push the threats back into the dark.

Hunting Worm 28mm Scale Miniature Monster Conversion for Table Top and RPG Games

Your team of government agents has been called in to investigate disappearances near a remote town in Iowa. Initial reports were of livestock going missing from large feed lots. When a member of the farming community was noted as not appearing at his regular church meeting, local law enforcement searched his farm and found nothing out of the ordinary. Then a family reported the father had failed to return from working in a wheat field and the county police requested outside assistance. The incidences found themselves onto your department's radar. Despite your quick response team arriving on site within 24 hours, another missing person case was submitted in the brief period. Thus, you find yourself and your fellow agents combing another small farm for clues.

Searching the area behind the barn, you find a fenced pen holding a coupe dozen grazing sheep. For some reason the farmer had secured the flock in the pen, rather than grazing in the larger grassy pasture along the edge of the farm buildings. Suddenly, you note the sheep have gone quiet and are standing stock still in the pen, only their heads rotating from side to side as if they are watching for something. You feel the small hairs on your neck twitch. Just as you become aware of slight vibrations at your feet, the barnyard erupts in a shower of dirt and stones as a large worm-like creature bursts from the surface rising above your head height. In the seconds as your brain interprets the scene, the front of the serpentine body splits to reveal a gaping mouth filled with black teeth. Long muscular tendrils shoot out from the gullet, reaching to entangle you! You begin to press the trigger on your combat shotgun. Will your reaction be too late?

The Hunting Worm is a large subterranean monster that prowls the subsurface in search of prey on the surface. It is larger than man-size, with the adults reaching 20 feet in length. Attracted by vibrations in the subsoil, the worm moves easily and quickly through loose soil. When it is near to its prey, the worm bursts through the surface to attempt to grapple its victim with three strong tentacles. Once ensnared, the worm pulls its target into its gaping mouth. The outer teeth exude a greenish nerve toxin which attacks the victim's nervous system resulting in an almost instant unconsciousness. The beast swallows the still prey whole and proceeds to digest the victim over a few days.

The Hunting Worm is semi-intelligent and may hunt in small packs of 2 to 5. It is a very dangerous encounter. The base of the miniature measures 1-1/2 inches (40 mm) in diameter.

Miniature Monster Blood Snail for 28mm Scale Games Like Call of Cthulhu, Stargrave, and D&D Conversion

The Blood Snail presents a dangerous encounter to the unwary adventurer. In some ways it resembles the forest snails you have seen on the rocks near streams. However, the elongated body of the adult is slightly larger than man-size! At one end, the body ends in a bulbous sack with green tendrils hugging the body. The other end is a rosy colored, segmented rounded tip.

The creature is primarily found in temperate forests and tropical jungle environments. It often makes its home near small running water sources, particularly pools and catch basin. The water sources attract animals to the snail's domain. Capable of nearly silent movement through light underbrush and leaf covered forest floors, the Blood Snail often lies in wait for its prey. Ready to spring its trap when an unwary animal approaches. The Blood Snail is also known to slowly approach its target if necessary, but its relatively slow movement rate means it generally relies on the element of surprise.

Once within range, the curled tendrils lash out at with whip-like speed, stretching to two yards or more. These act like tentacles and ensnare the intended prey. The Snail secretes a clear viscous liquid from the tips of the tendrils. This secretion contains a powerful paralysis agent. Once in contact with the victim's skin, the slime causes paralysis of the motor muscles. The prey quickly becomes still, but remains conscious. Pulling its victim close in, the segmented end of the Snail splits open to reveal a mouth filled with rows of sharp teeth. The mouth clamps onto the prey, burrowing into the body and proceeds to drain it of its nourishing blood.

Reports of strange creatures have brought you here to investigate. You scan the heavy vegetation of the forest surrounding you. Motion catches the corner of your eye. Somethings has disturbed the underbrush. Wait, is something moving through the foliage, or is it the vegetation itself that is moving toward you? Suddenly multiple tentacles fly out at you! Have you turned from being the hunter to the prey?

 

The miniature's base measures approximately 1-1/4 inches (32 mm) in diameter. The 28mm scale human figure provides some size comparison.

In the dark days of the Napoleonic Wars, great armies clash on battlefields across the continent and beyond. Soldiers die every day. Yet some of the dead do not stay down.

 

A few of the fallen rise again to wander the battleground in search of victims, regardless of affiliation. The horrors of war become even more horrific as the boundary between the natural world and the supernatural wears thin.

Miniature German Monster Hunter Soldier For Trench Crusade 28mm Scale Painted Kitbash

Heinrich Vogel is a rare soldier, a jäger der monster. Often working by himself, Heinrich patrols the deadly battlefield in search of a certain type of prey. His target is not an enemy combatant, although they do pose a threat he must watch for. No, let the other soldiers of his unit contend with the normal enemy. Heinrich tracks far more deadly prey.

 

This terrible war has created many opportunities for soldiers to die, but the worst are the truly unnatural foes. Some like the revenants are unintentional supernatural byproducts of the large scale death spread across the killing fields. Other are the specialized forces recruited by the enemy through occult or ultratech means, or a combination of both. Vampires, werebeasts, necromancers and more. These unholy creatures act with too much intelligence and pose the darkest threats. So it is up to warriors like Heinrich to remove these abominations.

 

His preferred weapon is his silent crossbow with its silver-tipped bolts. But he also carries a blessed sword along with several stick grenades.
