The advanced kill switch for MEGA VPN on Windows is designed to keep you safe by blocking internet access if your VPN disconnects. But in some situations, like if the app has crashed or a Windows update forces a restart, it can stop you from getting online or even signing in to your computer. Turning it off can help you get back up and running while you reconnect to the VPN.

  1. On the Windows sign-in screen, press and hold the Shift key while clicking the power icon and while clicking Restart.
    This will take you to Windows recovery mode.

  5. Type the following:
    reg load HKLM\TempSystem C:\Windows\System32\Config\SYSTEM

  6. This should give you the details of the service. If this is successful, then type the following:
    reg add HKLM\TempSystem\ControlSet001\Services\MEGAVPNTunnel$mega /v Start /t REG_WORD /d 4 /f
    reg unload HKLM\TempSystem
  7. Now type the following command to restart:
    shutdown /r

To re-enable MEGA VPN so that you can reconnect

Note that the kill switch will re-enable once you reconnect.
