Igwe Godwin V.C is a renowned researcher who colorfully obtained a degree in Agricultural Economics, Management and Extension (B.Agric) at the prestigious Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki. He was among the best graduating students in the 2012/2013 academic session. He has written two novels: Abelisto Abelista and Time of Tears. He specializes in data collection, analysis and interpretation as well as journal production, edition and publication. He was mentored by Asso. Determinants of Farmers' Adoption of Agricultural Development Programme Extension Technology Packages in Ivo L.G.A of Ebonyi State

The study analyzed the determinants of farmers' adoption of Agricultural Development Programme (A... more The study analyzed the determinants of farmers' adoption of Agricultural Development Programme (ADP) extension technology packages in Ivo L.G.A of Ebonyi State. Multistage sampling procedure was employed to select 80 farmers and eight extension agents who formed the respondents for the study. Data were collected through the aid of questionnaire and interview schedule whereas the analysis was done using descriptive and inferential statistics suiting each specific objective. The result showed that most of the farmers (82.50%) and extension agents (75%) were males, respectively. Evidence showed that the mean age of the farmers was 37 years while the mean age of the extension agents was 44 years. It was obvious that 67.50% and 75% of the farmers and extension agents were, respectively, married. The mean annual income of the farmers and extension agents was ₦98,070 and ₦504,200, respectively. The result showed further that about 81.9% change in the dependent variable (adoption of extension technology packages) was caused by variations of socioeconomic characteristics included in the regression model. The following were the research recommendations; educational facilities should be made available for rural farmers to enhance easy adoption of ADP extension technology packages to enhance production; government and NGOs should endeavor to subsidize the cost of ADP extension technology packages to enhance easy adoption by rural farmers; and credit institutions are advised to give farmers loans to enhance their accessibility of ADP extension technology packages in the area.

Heavy metals studied include: Cadmium (Ca), Nickel (Ni), Mercury (Hg), Chromium (Cr), Lead (Pb) a... more Heavy metals studied include: Cadmium (Ca), Nickel (Ni), Mercury (Hg), Chromium (Cr), Lead (Pb) and Arsenic (As). Experimental data was collected from Ameka Dam. Data on the body weight and age of fish was collected for about 2 (two) years that is 24 (twenty four) months, result obtained were presented and interpreted in Tables 1 -5 on each of the water body studied. The result of simple regression on the effect of heavy metals on body weight and age of fishes in Ameka Dam showed that cadmium exerted negative influence on the age and body weight of the fishes as indicated by their negative co-efficients. The extent of influence was measured by the co-efficient of multiple determination R 2 of 46% and 3.9% for body weight and age respectively; which means that about 46% of the total variation that occurred in their body weight was caused by the presence of cadmium in the Dam. But, only 3.9% of the change in age was explained by cadmium availability. Significant impact of Cadmium on fish weight was observed at the second year of study, with Cadmium explaining 25% variations in the weight of fish. Nickel had no significant impact while the impact of mercury was seen in year one and two. In conclusion, it was observed that the presence of heavy metals like cadmium, nickel, mercury, chromium, lead and arsenic all exerted more positive influence on both the age and body weight of the fishes. The low values of the Durbin Watson constant in all the heavy metals signified the absence of autocorrelation in the regression model, showing that the model was well specified and no relevant variable was omitted.

This study assessed the Effects of Socioeconomic characteristics of rural farmers on climate chan... more This study assessed the Effects of Socioeconomic characteristics of rural farmers on climate change adaptation measures in Ivo L.G.A of Ebonyi State. A sample size of 120 farmers were selected for the study through random multi-stage sampling technique using a well-structured questionnaire and interview schedule. Data collected were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The result showed that majority (69.2 percent) of the respondents were male, 47.5 percent of the respondents fall within the age bracket of 31-40 years, 65.8 percent were married and 36.7 percent had household size between 7-9 persons. Majority (38.3 percent) of the respondents, had no formal education, while 35.8 percent had farm size between 2.1-2.5 hectares. Furthermore, 51.7 percent of the respondents had annual income between N70,000-N100,000. The coefficient of multiple determinations, R 2 of 79.8% from the multiple regression analysis showed that 79.8% change in the choice of Climate change adaptation measures was explained by the socioeconomic characteristics of the rural farmers. Most of the independent variables were positively signed and statistically significant. Among the recommendations include that government should encourage education of rural farmers as it will enable them in adaptation to climate change measure.

The primary and secondary source, Primary data were collected using a well structured questionnaire that was administered to the 120 randomly selected respondents, while the secondary data were collected from the existing data in Bank of Agriculture office at Ohafia Local Government area of Abia state. The sources of the secondary data to be used include data on the amount of credit applied and granted, uses of credit obtained. Both descriptive and inferential statistics were employed in the analysis of data collected. Objectives (i), (ii) and (iii) were analyzed using descriptive statistics such as frequency, distribution Table, percentage and mean. Objective (iv) was realized using simple regression analysis. Objective (v) was analyzed using difference in mean. While Objective (vi) was analyzed using Mean score derived from 4-point Likert scale and factor analysis. The null hypothesis was tested using F-test at 0.05 level of significance and the null hypothesis. The result in Table 1, showed the age distribution of the respondents. The result of the analysis showed that respondent within the age range of 31-40 years was the highest with 39.2% while the least was those with age < 20 with 0.8%, majority (78.3%) of the respondents were male while female accounted only for 21.7% of the respondents, 60.5% of the respondents were married, while only about 7% of the respondents were divorcees, majority (58.38%) of the respondents had household size of 5-10, followed by 21.7% who had a size of between 1-5, while the least were those with household size of above 15. majority (94.8%) have acquired formal education while only about 7.5% of the respondents had no formal education, majority (41.7%) of the respondents earned between N30,001-N50,000. This was followed by those that earned between N10,001-N30,000 with 22.5%. The least were those that earned above N90,000 with 4.2%, majority (38.3%) earned a total annual income between 80,001-110,000 while least is 2.5% who earned above N150,000, 62.5% of the respondents were full-time farmers while the rest of 37.5% were part time farmers 33.3% of the respondents have farming experience between 10-15years while the least (2.5%) had farming experience from above 20 years and majority (61.7%) of the respondent had a farm size of between 1.1-2.0 and the least is 4.2% who has above 3.0 hectares. Furthermore, it was observed that majority of the farmers (83.3%) utilized the credit obtained from BOA for crop production followed by 62.5% of the respondents who invested their accessed loan into animal production. The least (5.8%) were those who utilized the credit obtained for purchasing of capital assets. Also, the result showed that showed that 40% of the farmers utilized between N100,001-N150,000 followed by 28.3% who utilize between N150,001-N200,000. The least was 3.3% who utilize less than 50,000. Majority (98.3%) of the respondents received short term loan (N1-250,000) and just 1.7% of the respondent obtained small and medium scale loan (N 250,000-N 5000,000). The result of the analysis showed that the difference in mean of the amount applied and granted for the past 5years was N2,556,042. The result of the regression analysis shows that coefficient of determinant r 2 was 0.683 while the adjusted r 2 0.647, this shows that 65% of total variation in dependent variable (output of the farmers) was explained by the influence of the independent variable (amount of loan acquired) in the model. The major problems the bank experiences in credit delivery to the farmers and these were : high illiteracy rate (X=3.0), loan default(X =3.0), lack of collateral (X=4.0), Farmers screening problems (X=3.0), loan repayment enforcement problems (X=3.0). the constraints associated with loan acquisition include; lack of collateral (0.712), delay in credit disbursement (0.472) and bureaucracy (0.644). The null hypothesis was rejected and the alternative accepted which states that the Bank Of Agricultural loan has effect on the income of the rural farmers in the study area. Among the recommendations were that; there should be timely disbursement of credit for effective utilization and the farmers should be provided with low interest rate loan and flexibility in collateral should be maintained with the small holder farmers in the study area by government.
