Interview

I have an interview in 2.5 hours for a long-term substitute position as a Media Specialist. The MS is going on maternity leave in late September, so they need one till January.

I"d love to do it. But no insurance benefits.

I'm hoping to score a classroom position. I'm resigned to it now for this year, but I'm looking for it with much more enthusiasm because.....

BECAUSE! I found out I don't have to quit my job(s) to do my spring internship!! I just complete 12 projects about the MEdia Center, using the Media Center and Media Specialist has my resources!!

I can graduate in May!!!!!!!!

Jobless

My position has been eliminated from my school.

I have 10 weeks to find a new job.

Thus...begins the resume writing.

First day on the job

I left today with 3 hugs, 4 letters stating, "I love you, Miss Hayes," and a big smile on my face.

It went well. It went so well, I am almost sure that I am dreaming of how well it went.

The substitute, Mr. Johnson, is an incredible gift. He has such a natural patience and rapport with the kids, I know it'll be hard to measure up, but I'm willing to give it a try. By midday, the kids were asking me if I was going to be their new teacher. When I told them I was going to be coming back tomorrow to "help," they clapped and cheered.

Let's see how long it lasts, huh? ;)

Funny instance: As we were reviewing science facts for the test tomorrow, we were discussing the difference between living and nonliving things. We asked for examples of nonliving things:

First answer: Rocks.
Second answer: Cars.
Third answer: Cat!

Mr. Johnson glanced at the little girl who called that out, and asked, "A cat?"

She explained: Well, I saw a cat in the street that was runned over and it was dead.

I laughed myself sick.

Classrooms and Alias and ramblings

* I saw my classroom for the first time this afternoon. My first impression: sloppy and unorganized. I was confused when looking at the chalkboards. There are so many things written on it/tacked to it/covering up stuff, you can't follow the "flow" of information. Could this be a contributor to ADD?

* I have ideas on what to do, how to arrange my room in a few months, etc. ANyone out there who already teaches, feel free to give any advice and/or hard lessons you've learned.

* I'm watching the premiere of Alias right now. Rather interesting. Michael Vartan, your hotness is undeniable. Jennifer Garner, you look like a girl I could hang out and be chums with, but you also have a duck-like face.

* I need to start a new fitness routine. I've slacked on the healthy-eating-and-4-workouts-a-week kick. /sigh/ Damn you, holidays!

* I'm going to see a movie tomorrow night. Why? B/c I don't want to be at home tomorrow night. What will I see? Dunno. I like the look of National Treasure. I'm really looking forward to White Noise. Scary...wheeee. BTW, I heard Darkness sucks...like Showgirls level of suckage. Feh. :P

* Oooh! Rick Yune is on Alias tonight. Bonus!

* Going to bed now....night-night.

Short and sweet (just like me)

* Went to the tutoring center. Had a half hour chat with the owner who sees me more as the sales/marketing person for the business, but also with the smarts to help with the kids if needed in a pinch. She was lovely to talk to. Urged me to "do my thing, see what is out there" etc, and to keep in contact with her. She will not know if she can hire anyone full-time until her summer enrollment comes back to her (end of June/beginning of July), but she would definitely keep me in mind.

I give myself 2 thumbs up.

* Inquired at library about volunteering. They have a clerical position for scanning old docs and such. Right up my alley on what I want to do for my master's.

* Am pushing myself to get out, go contact things that make ME happy. Have the name and number of the coordinator for the Greenville Little Theater. Might look into it as a fun project.

* Calling tomorrow about receptionist position found on monster.com.

* Am considering going back to serving. Please, no, I don't want to, but I need cha-ching.

* Am back at Kinko's. Was passing by here anyway. Nice copy dude at the counter gave me a chocolate-peanut butter treat. He thought I was cute in my little suit.

* I fancy a thick chocolate shake from Steak & Shake on the way home. Whaddayaknow! I'm passing there on my way home....Hehehehe.
