There is not a store out there that sells plain, flat-front khaki shorts anymore.
I checked Lerner New York & Company; that was a bust. As well as Express. I don't usually patronize these stores; they are just the stores I have found shorts in before when I was in a hurry.
I checked Petite Sophisticate (I'm just a hair over what is considered "petite"). They had a nice cut and tailored look to them, but the sizes were wonky. My normal size hung off my hips; the next size down made my thighs look like short little sausages. Finally I found a couple pairs at Banana Republic.
And when did it become fashionable for all girls under 17 to dress like hard-working hookers who get caught in a thresher? Jesus..some of these clothes had my active eyebrows arching. The tattered shirts are a challenge to those signs: No shirt, no service. You can't really call it a "shirt," but they are wearing something. Conundrum, no?
And capris are just the worst pants ever invented. They were cute when they were called "clamdiggers" and Gidget wore them to the beach party with Moondoggie. However, that was the only someone looked good in them, too. Pant legs that end in mid-calf make a woman look heavy, top and bottom, and if you're not a willowy 5'10", be forewarned. You'll look awful.
I have finished some of my final grades, finished all major last year tests, and am frantically thinking of activities for next week after I have turned in my materials and I still have kids for 4 full school days.
When I was at this age, we would have a couple days devoted to real fun at the end of the school year. One was Game Day--you brought a board game from home, as did every one of your classmates, and you traveled from game to game, playing, having fun, and just chilling out. I loved the feeling of "it's over!" when my teacher said it was time to stack chairs, and push the desks against the walls, so we could make room for all the board game groups.
My kids however--they cannot walk in a line without punching/hitting/kicking/poking/yelling at each other. Plus, whatever I plan has to be "educational" so I'm thinking of:
1. A science center with water-based paints: Instructions to mix blue and yellow--what color do you get? Mix red and blue: what color do you get? Etc. etc. THey learn, it's sciencey, plus, they can get messy and be busy for 30+ minutes.
2. Book center: Read anything you want on my bookshelf.
3. Math review: Taking colored chalk out to the pavilion, coloring huge bubble numbers of 1-10, and then calling out problems ("What's 4 + 4?) and having the kids run to the appropriate answer. Educational, kids get active exercise, and takes up a lot of time.
4. Reading Corner: I read to the kids in my funny voices. I read them The Lion King yesterday, complete with all the voices of the hyenas, the lions, and Pumbaa and Timon. Thank God for a minor in Theater and Study in Voice. Mimicry has always been easy for me.
5. Ummm..something else...
*~*~*~*~*~*~**~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~**~*~*~*~*~**~*~*~ After wearing my work clothes all day, I strip as soon as I get home. I can't wait to get in my cotton shorts and tank tops. Can't stand wearing pants all day. :P I keep trying to plan my outfits ahead of time, but this week, I'm so tired when I get home. IN the morning, if it's clean, and matches the shirt I grab, I'll wear it. Shoes are generally sneakers. Walking on concrete all day hurts like hell. So is wearing a thong. My at-home choice is sans item. It's so much more comfier and adaptable to summertime in Florida. *~*~**~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~**~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
To see what I was interested in college, all you have to do is look at my T-shirt collection. I counted 18 T-shirts I have from college. Well, 17, and one from HS. My favorite drama shirt from my sophomore year, that is a medium.
The Drama shirt is a leftover relic, besides the 2 or 3 Thespian Competition ones I have transformed to muscle shirts for working out. The other T-shirts trace 4 years of college.
I got shirts from Theta parties and formals, mixers with Lambda Chi Alpha (FTB! Magic Carpet Ride! Show your ass!) and Phi Kappa Tau (my old stomping grounds, and guys I would stomp on), a Phi Kappa Tau Absolut shirt I was so honored to have, an Esso shirt, a TD's 15-year anniversary shirt (which I will probably never get rid of. Too many good memories), and a couple Backyard Green T-shirts.
Would any of these shirts be worth anything to other Thetas out there in the world? I have pledge shirts, letter jerseys, etc. I don't want. Just put them in a large lot and get rid of 'em.
Ugh. Too many T-shirts. They take up too much space, and I hate folding them after washing. Plus, they're sized L and XL. Comfort was paramount in college, when school could be attended in pajama pants and a party T-shirt.
I picked up my coat and hat from Diana and LOVE THEM. The color is a beautiful violet-blue (kind of like a spring sky at twilight) and the material is mohair and 100% virgin wool. I'm too, too adorable in this coat and hat. LOL
I went to the store after getting home, and showed my support for enoelie by buying a tube of Maybelline Great Lash in Real Black. Go Diana! :) And screw those who are fans of GWAR! The only cool people who are fans of GWAR are Beavis & Butthead.
Now I watch Must See NBC b/c I love Thursday night Must See NBC. :)
Went to Wally-world, got a neat-o keen pair of slipper socks. Slipper socks! Oh, I have been wanting to get some of these! Kids...look what Mom got! Name that movie and I will send you a Christmas card. :)
"You're my daily dose of reality....."
How did this year pass so quickly? It's only 22 days till Christmas Eve. Crap. I have so much shopping to do. Everyone know what they want for Christmas? ;) Get your requests in fast. I'll be heading down to South Florida for Chrismas Eve/Day. Christmas never feels like Christmas down here. :P It's hard to sing about sleighing in the snow when you're smoothing on sunscreen and opening all the windows in the hopes of catching a breeze. Grrrr.
Heard that BYG did a phenomenal show last night at Music Bach's in Greenville. Can't wait to see them myself in less than 4 weeks. Sweeeet. >:)
Christmas cards are a-calling my name. However, I've changed my name, so I will ignore them.
