HamCall Monthly Updates change, August 2018

Background

The technical problem
Normally our HamCall Callsign Lookup software handles downloading updates for you. Just pull down the Options menu and pick "Download HamCall Updates", and the software automatically downloads and installs the updates for you. However around September 1, 2018 we will be changing our company home page address from buck.com to BuckmasterInternational.com. You will still be able to use HamCall the same way as always. The issue is that older versions of the HamCall Callsign Lookup program were written to download the update files from buck.com. After September 1, 2018, buck.com will go away and older versions of HamCall Callsign Lookup will not be able to find the update files.

If you don't download HamCall updates, this problem won't affect you and your HamCall will work the same as always. And, if you plan to buy a September 2018 or later HamCall disc, it will be able to download updates normally.

To download updates for a disc older than Sepember 2018, all it takes is an updated HamCall.exe file (this is the HamCall Callsign Lookup program.) The updated file looks for update files at HamCall.net instead of buck.com.

How to update your HamCall.exe file

First exit HamCall Callsign Lookup, you can't update the file if it's running.

Right-click on the following file URL and click Save Link As:

That will start the download, then in the Save box you need to direct your browser to save to the file to your c:\hamcall folder. No other folder will work.

Once you have selected the c:\hamcall folder, click Save. You should be asked if you want to overwrite the existing file, click Yes.

Once the HamCall.exe file is successfully saved, run HamCall Callsign Lookup. The first line in the main part of the window should say: "HamCall Lookup version 2018.8."
