The Grey Emperor looms over existence, the specter of despotism and war. He has brought down the Seers of Khaa with schemes as convoluted as any they could ever contrive. They search for hollow knowledge and silent words, their wisdom turning fallow from disuse.
Things have been a bit up and down lately. I've been sick, which coincided with a bad spell emotion-wise. The upshot is that I fell too far behind on my NaNo-writing. I hate being so easy to derail, but that's what happened. Now I got to get back into writing again.
On the positive side I'm going to a Black Sabbath concert with my friends on Tuesday. Right now it seems very overwhelming, but I'm sure it'll be good too. Actually I'm not sure, but I know that experience suggests that it might be.
Writing continues apace. I'm making my daily word count, so I'm pretty pleased.
And now, a belated halloween-joke (based on a great old... joke).
By a street lamp I came upon a spectre. It was threads of darkness woven into an abyss of night. "I've lost my soul" it said. "I exist only as a negation of all that I was". I tried to help it find the soul. After a few minutes of searching, I asked "Where exactly did you lose it?" "Down the street, next to the graveyard." Puzzled, I asked, "Then why aren't you looking over there?" There was a bleak glee in the spectre's face: "YOU are here."
I'm pseudo-participating again this year, but I won't be doing the failing in real time thing. In other words, I'll only post FINISHED first drafts here. Reading my orphaned bits isn't terribly interesting
No one knows the law like the consummate reprobate.
1: Thinking about writing has only slightly greater effect than thinking about running a marathon. I've really thought hard about both. 2: You need to read. Writing doesn't come from nothing. Taste what you read. 3: Sometimes it won't work no matter how much you want it to. You can't let that stop you. 4: You gotta prep for lightning to strike from a clear sky. 5: Having lots of time is no guarantee that you'll get anything done. 6: Know what you write. Be conscious of the process and the ramifications of what you put on paper. 7: Write as much as you can.
So, I'm trying to make a small setting for Doctor Who: Adventures In Time And Space in the small town of Valier, Montana. Strange things happen out there, y'see.
...but I've started writing again. This time I'll finish it before posting bits of it. It's game-stuff, and may be approaching fanfic.
In slightly related news, I've splurged a bit. Through an internet bookstore I've bought:
Doctor Who Adventures in Time and Space: The Roleplaying Game (11th Doctor Version) Doctor Who: Starships and Spacestations Doctor Who: The Ultimate Monster Guide
A nerd is me. A happy nerd.
Today I kept two friends company while they were waiting to to go to a funeral. Bought them hot drinks at a café while the snow was blowing outside. Between them they've lost three relatives in the space of four months. They could do with some GOOD fortune now. They did most of the talking. I just listened.
