Who I Am

Software Engineer at Google by day. While I'm not working on large-scale software, I enjoy playing the piano, reading books (browsing Hackaday has decreased, but I keep checking here from time to time).

Have been a best product finalist for the 'Best Product' prize in Hackaday in 2017.

Why I'm on Hackaday.io

I picked up the soldering iron when I was 6 and started with building circuits published in magazines. I was gradually drawn towards microcontrollers and was amazed at the possibilities. Kept building and learning throughout school, college and work.

While job demands a lot of my time and energy and I am more likely to buy solutions today rather than repurpose existing things in a creative way and spend time creating my own (which is one of the core values of Hackaday), I hope to be back here.

  • Sync date without NTP (for BeagleBone, Pi, etc)

    01/18/2016 at 19:34 • 2 comments

I live in a place protected by a HTTP Proxy, so NTP doesn't work when I want to sync date for my SBCs as they don't keep the time when turned off.

I found this command, which can be used to set the date by querying a Google server. Not so accurate as NTP but does the job.

    sudo date -s "$(curl -s --head http://google.com | grep ^Date: | sed 's/Date: //g')"

You have an extremely promising project! I'd be very curious to see how it proceeds throughout the prize.

I have a small garden that I'd like to automate the irrigation of, so I'd be interested as a user too.
