Okay, it’s been a while since I updated this site. Over a year and a half, in fact. This is entirely my fault. Long story short, various things happened and I lost access to my WordPress account and the email address to which it was attached.
However, since I’m typing this, it’s obvious that I have regained control of the account now, and there are a few things to catch up on.
Light Fantasy
Firstly the Light Fantasy Kickstarter. This was a major success. The campaign was fully funded, including a couple of stretch goals, and this paid for the game’s artwork. Not only that, but I got the art done and the game finished before my estimated four-month deadline and was even able to deliver all the rewards early.
All in all, it was a resounding success. I was going to say “for a first Kickstarter”, but that implies that there might be more. While the campaign succeeded, it was hugely stressful on a personal level and I never want to repeat the experience.
Anyway, Light Fantasy is now available on DriveThruRPG along with my other games.
Advanced FASERIP
When I released the first edition of FASERIP, I used art from the artist Storn Cook that he had released under a No-Commercial-Use license. I contacted him at the time, and got his blessing to release the book with this art, providing the book was given away for free.
While I remain very grateful for Mr Cook’s generosity, unfortunately this meant that while I could give away the game digitally on DriveThruRPG for zero cost, I was unable to add a print-on-demand version of the game.
Advanced FASERIP is a new edition of the game, which includes an expanded power list, an improved character generation system with balanced randomisation options, rules for super-bases, and campaign advice including safety tools, random scenario generation, and advice for troupe play.
Just as importantly, it no longer uses the Storn Cook artwork, instead using public domain artwork from the golden age of comics; and this means that I can offer it as a print-on-demand book as well as a digital book.
It is available as both on DriveThruRPG.
Dark Dungeons 4e
I’ve also released a fourth edition of Dark Dungeons, to mark its 15th anniversary. This is also available on DriveThruRPG as a free download or as a print-on-demand physical book.
Unfortunately, I messed up when I uploaded it to DriveThru and I used the same filename for the files that I had for the original Dark Dungeons and I didn’t notice until someone contacted me pointing out that they’d tried to download a copy of the first edition of Dark Dungeons from its DriveThru page and had got the new fourth edition instead.
While that’s simply unfortunate when it comes to downloads, I really don’t want people paying money for a print-on-demand verison of the old book and not getting what they paid for, so I’ve removed the old editions of Dark Dungeons from sale.
Hero•World
Finally, I currently have a new game in production – Hero•World. This is a super-hero game and is the “sequel” to Codename: Spandex.
Codename: Spandex was a retro-clone I made back in 2010 of the Golden Heroes RPG. At the time, there was a misunderstanding with Simon Burley, the author of Golden Heroes, who had made his own clone of the game called Squadron UK.
Not wanting to tread on his toes, I never advertised Codename: Spandex or put it up on DriveThruRPG for download.
However, fifteen years have passed since then, and Mr Burley has moved on from Squadron UK to other games with different rules and styles, and I think I can safely release Codename: Spandex now without worrying about eating into sales of Squadron UK.
However, I didn’t want to just release it as-is. Partly because it was just a bare-bones clone, and partly because the files were fifteen years old and were in an obsolete format.
So I’ve re-written Codename: Spandex, cleaning up bits of the rules that were a bit shonky, and adding a default setting and a bunch of sample characters to turn it from a bare-bones clone into a full game.
Currently, Hero•World is written, playtested, and edited, and it’s just waiting for the art to be finished (I’m using the same artist that I did for Light Fantasy) before I can do the final layout touches and release it.
