As episodes go, this is right up there with my favourites! And not just because it was a F\/Locke-centric episode but because for the first time this season, it feels to me like things are shifting towards some kind of conclusion. Terry O'Quinn was all kinds of awesome as both the 'good' and 'bad' incarnations of John Locke, making me feel great sympathy for the character in one moment and be a little afraid of him the next.
It was funny though, because as Sawyer and Flocke walked into the cave, I suddenly had this weird 'I don't want to watch any more' moment. Not because I wasn't loving it, but because I wasn't sure that after 6 years of waiting, I was ready to find out the answers after all.
Loved:
*Helen! It was wonderful to see Katey Sagal back again, I always hoped we'd see more of her and I was thrilled that she and Locke were going to get married. Her mention of 'destiny' just proved to me that they are the perfect couple!
*Smokey's eye view rampage across the island, pausing at the barracks and ending with Flocke picking up the knife.
*The Indiana Jones\/Raiders of the Lost Ark style music
*The way Sawyer saw through Flocke straight away.
*Hurley & Rose
*The graveyard, Locke's 'funeral' on his beloved island and Ben's speech.
*The return of the 'Big box o' knives' (from my favourite ever scene in Lost!)
*The black and white stones
The names in the cave- So very creepy!
*Ben and Locke as collegues. I hope we see more of this interaction.
*Richard. He seems so wrong footed now, and I did think for a minute that Flocke was going to kill him.
Didn't like:
*Just how many times we had to see John kicked while he was down, so to speak. I know it was probably necessary but it just seemed a bit unfair.
*The boy in the jungle. Creeped me out big time.
Questions:
*Why was Kate not one of the numbers? She was touched by Jacob, on the original list but missing from the cave roof?
*Why did\/does Jacob need candidates? Does the island really need protecting?
*Will Ilana, sprinkle Jacobs ashes over Sayid and will this give the other others a happier outlook?
*How did Flocke turn from man into smoke monster?
*Is '42 - Kwon' Sun, because she successfully had her baby?
*Why is Ben not considered a 'candidate'?

I have a bit of a love\/hate relationship with Kate. Sometimes she's totally awesome and sometimes I just want to smack her for her selfishness. Unfortunately 'What Kate Does' falls into the latter category.
Considering there are only 17 episodes to tie up the whole series, for the most part this one felt like a big waste of time which could have been better spent. However, I did love Claire, and am glad that they put so much of her into the episode that it kind of felt like a Claire episode rather than a Kate one.
Loved:
*Badass Sawyer with a gun
*Sayid - the torturer becomes the tortured.
*Ethan!
*Claire = Danielle 2, the sequel!
*Clair and Kate in the hospital room - The 2 mothers of Aaron.
Didn't like:
*The others at the temple. I'm tiring of yet more cat and mouse games. I want answers, not more questions
*Kate's crocodile tears as Sawyer speaks about Juliet and she realises that she's lost her chance with him.
*The lame 'my husband left me so I can't adopt your baby' line. There must have been a better way to ensure that Aaron would stay with Claire?
Questions:
*Were the others trying to bring out Jacob or Smokey with the torture?
*Has Danielle really been dead for 3 years? It doesn't seem that long.
*Is the 'claimed' that has supposedly happened to Sayid and Claire the same as Russo's 'sickness' that happened to her crew?
*Is it really poison in the capsule or is there another reason that they didn't want Jack to take it?

I spent the whole 2 hours holding my head and saying 'I don't understand' which in Lost terms means 'that was awesome!' and it was. Some of the best acting I've seen on Lost was in that season opener and if I didn't love Terry O' Quinn before then I would have been helpless not to after the look on his face where he's helped into his wheelchair when the plane lands. Heartbreaking.
As to the episodes, I have broken it down into things I loved, didn't like and questions I have:
Loved:
*Underwater island
*Boone & Locke's conversation
*Charlie! Even though I hated the character, his death was still one of the saddest things ever on Lost.
*The Kate escape.
*Locke and Jack at the lost baggage claim. Possibly the only time I've ever liked Jack.
*Flocke being the smoke monster! Never saw it coming!
*Everything about the temple scenes.
Didn't like:
*Lack of Shannon, and the convenient way she was explained away.
*Desmond on the plane. I love Desmond but again, it seemed like a convenient way to not leave him out of the premiere even though he had no business being on the plane.
*Jin still being aresehole in his 'reset', and because of this, Sun refusing to admit that she knows English.
*Killing Juliet...Again. It seemed unnecessarily cruel and a bit of a waste of time to do it twice.
*The fact that they might have actually killed Sayid as a character so that Jacob can inhabit his body, like have with Locke and Jacob's nemesis.
Questions:
*I'm having a really hard time with the reset\/alternate universe thing, but could just be because my brain isn't big enough but it seems like it's being used as a way to avoid difficult questions, like how all the Losties are now back in 1997 rather than been split.
*Is Claire still pregnant in this alternate universe or if she isn't, is that why we only saw her head (and bad wig) and they're saving it for another episode?
*Will the two timeslines merge, at least in our characters eg, Jack's cut neck, Juliet's comment about 'going for a coffee'.
*Who is Cindy, really?
*Is the piece of paper that was inside the Ankh, with the Losties names on it, a similar thing to the original infamous 'Jacob's List' that Mrs Klugh gives to Micheal in season 2?
*Was Richard a slave\/prisoner on the Black Rock.
*Are the people at the temple bracing for an attack from the smoke monster\/Flocke?

Anyway, I spent all last week in the north of England helping the company I work for, open a new shop, and with no internet access as well! It was a very hard week and I came home Friday night, just wanting a quiet weekend in, but no.
I booked myself completely this weekend. On saturday I met my mum in Leicester square for lunch and then we went to see 'The Rise and Fall of Little Voice' at the Vaudeville theatre. I wanted to see it because my favourite contestant from last years X factor, Diana Vickers, was in it and my mum wanted to see it because she loved the film (as did I) It was a wonderful show and Diana as LV didn't disappoint, taking a very hard and specific role and (as Louis Walsh would say) making it her own.
I got home in time to watch X Factor and the travesty that was Strictly Come Dancing before collapsing into bed
Sunday is a whole other post and once I calm down enough to write it, I will fill you all in on 'The night GrrArrg was in the same room as Simon Cowell!'
