Armour in April Final Roundup

It's been a very productive month of April for me. I got a lot of work done across a variety of projects. Unfortunately not all of them were hulls for #armourinapril.

The two Leman Russ tanks are ready for the final detailing pass. The Salamander Scout is waiting on the crew to be finished, and the Thunderer is waiting for me to finish the dozer blade as well as a few other details.

In other Armour in April news, I managed to secure seven more hulls in trade right at the end of the month, along with quite a few extra heavy weapons. Five Chimeras, a Wyvern, and a Hellhound will add a little something something to my expanding motor pool.

Finally, Cylde Ar of Mastodóntica got in touch to share his absolutely beautiful Wave Serpents he knocked out during the month. Google probably butchered the translation when I went to check it out but it seems like he also got a Fire Prism and some Shining Spears done. Great work!

Thanks to everyone who joined in to get some armour done this month!

Cheers,

CJ

Armour in April 3rd Update

The third week of #ArmourinApril is over. Not too much painting got done this week, but I did bring the Thunderer to life so I feel like it's a fair trade. I did get it and the second of my eBay rescue Leman Russ hulls painted up to the same point as the tanks last week.

So all four tanks are now ready for detail. That ought to occupy the rest of the month nicely.

The crew of the Salamander is also ready to be painted up. I also have been thinking about adding more stowage to the scout tank...

Nearly there!

Cheers,

CJ

Paint Table Saturday

Working on lots of tanks this week as #ArmourinApril continues. And I managed to complete a character for Inquisitor Draco's retinue, so that's one down and three to go.

Finally, I got my 'The Guilder' mini from Mad Robot Miniatures. He came today and I'm gonna try and get him painted in the next 48 hours for that bingo stamp.

Cheers,

CJ

Armour in April 2nd Update

The end of the second week of the month is here and #armourinapril rolls on.

This week saw me get some rare morning painting done before work. I'm usually up quite a bit before I need to leave the house anyways so I may try and capitalize on this previously unrealized hobby time. The Salamander Scout got it's basecoat finished up and both tanks got a black wash so they'd be ready for drybrushing when I got back to my desk again.

Update: I got some progress photos from Pablo Daniele Mura, he is working on a trio of Leman Russ tanks.

In related projects I assembled some parts and set out on a conversion marathon... Stay tuned for more news there.

In only slightly related news Dave Taylor's Kickstarter has successfully funded all the stretch goals. I look forward to getting my book.

Cheers,

CJ

2018 Wargames Hobby Bingo Update

It's been a really productive year and I've managed to fill out quite a few stamps for the card.

Painting the Knight for Monster March allowed me to stamp the 'Finish painting a model that's been in your to do pile or that's  remained unfinished for more than a year.' I started assembling that one back in 2015.

Finishing up my Vanquisher for #armourinapril lets me stamp 'Paint a vehicle.'

A little sculpting and a weapon swap made for an efficient One-Eye Jack stand in and got me the stamp for 'Convert a model.'

I don't have a completed photo for 'Build and paint a scenery kit' or 'Sculpt something on a model'  but the projects in question are my Garden of Morr and The Witchhunter's warband that I've added some purity seals to.

Finally a preview of the project in process (it's done now) of my Death Guard from the Dark Imperium box and The Plague Brethren. These projects count toward my 'Paint a model for an army you don't already collect and play' and 'Add a new unit to your army and completely paint it before using it on the battlefield' stamps.

So that's eight stamps so far for me. I've got a project for stamp number nine cooking as I type this up. #armourinapril is in full swing still. My only hope is that I can maintain this level of productivity in the months to come (and hopefully that's not a curse I've just laid...). There is plenty of plastic on my desk, and I'm really excited for the new Knight Codex.

Thanks again to Rob Hawkins for coming up with the bingo card.

Cheers,

CJ

A shout for Armies, Legions & Hordes

There are a few GW hobbyists that I used to love seeing their projects in White Dwarf... Rob Hawkins, Paul Sawyer, Chad Meirzwa... Dave Taylor. A lot of these guys got on to blogging their projects to share em with the world, which inspired me to start my blog.

Dave Taylor has inspired me to try more and do better in my hobby endeavors than any other hobbyist. With that in mind I was happy as a pig in shit to back his Kickstarter for Armies, Legions & Hordes. I'd try and sell you on it but The Terrain Tutor (Mel is bloody amazing go watch his videos) does it much better. I will say that when my copy of Armies, Legions & Hordes does arrive I'll display it along with my Imperial Armour Masterclass books.

The KS is almost unlocked all of the pledge levels. Even better there's a pledge level that gets you some facetime with Dave via Skype. Now I can't afford that one but I sure wish I could. Oh well I guess I'll just have to try and meet him at a game con someday.

In other news I'm plugging along with my tanks for #armourinapril. Stay tuned for more updates!

Cheers,

CJ

Paint Table Saturday

Just a brief update this week, folks. I've been mostly working on my Knight for Monster March.

I'm closing in on the final bits of the Knight, I've got the just the gatling cannon arm to finish up.

I also started getting some paint down on Grimm, follower of Inquisitor Draco.

Cheers!

Necromunda: Gang Roundup

With the new Van Saars being teased last week I decided to get all my gangers together for a photo session.

The new box set got me set up with both Eschers and Goliaths, both gangs that appealed to me the least in the last couple iterations of the game.

The new Orlock plastics are definitely a step up from the originals.

My favorite gang has always been Van Saar. These are Mad Robot Miniatures Vanderbilt Fighters. Thanks to the work of Mad Robot Steve I have some juves for this gang. I plan to hunt some down for all my other gangs as well but I expect it will be slow going.

Finally my Scum! He's lonely for now but with all these new bounty hunters and hangers-on that are listed in Gang War II and been announced will see some more like minded underhivers joining the pool.

I'm probably going to end up with one of each core gang box at the least. I've always liked the setting and so why not? Also I've got Chaos and Genestealer cultists that are waiting to have something done with them so why not add some heretics and a xenos menace in my underhive?

Cheers,

CJ

Paint Table Saturday

It's assembly table Saturday this week. I took a trip over to the new Warhammer store in Layton to check it out and ended up leaving with Gang War II and the Orlock box set.

First thing I decide to do was convert an Orlock leader with a meltagun and an eye patch.
Happy St. Patricks!

Cheers,

CJ

Monster March Update

I've managed to get a lot of painting on my first Knight done in the past few days. The house heraldry is the blue and yellow, with a quarter blocked out to signify an alliance with the Mechanicus.

My idea for a household is a filthy rich Rogue Trader raised his banner and a few Freeblades came to the call. They provided fire power and support while the trader plied the fringe. The Freeblade pilots formed a household of sorts. Eventually the Trader 'retired' to the governership of a deep space way station. The Knights became a powerful force on the station and were able to hire out as a mercenary band to myriad nearby systems. After a thousand years or so they had adopted uniform heraldry and made strong alliances to a forgeworld in the sector. The household has persisted to the 41st millennia.

It works for me.

Cheers,

CJ

Inq28: Witch Hunter 003

I've been working on a little of everything since I finished up my Squaduary pledge. Now before I discovered Monster March I had planned to do some work on my Inq28 warbands.

First thing was to find everyone a base. I made custom bases for this warband last year. Once I got everyone squared away the next step is to get the two painted Imperial Priests cleaned up.

I went to my go to stripper, brake fluid. This stuff is awesome. Different people recommend different methods of cleaning off models and this is mine. It works wonders.

I used a toothbrush and a pick to work all the paint off the model. I was surprised how thick the paint had been slathered on these guys but two soaks were enough to handle it. I will leave the models in the jar for 24 hours and then go to work. Once the easy layers sloughed off they went back in the jar for another hour or two, then I went to work with the pick. Pick and rinse, pick and rinse.

After the priests were clean I got everyone pinned to their bases and threw a basecoat of black primer over em. Getting a pin in the cyberhound's paw was a pain but it worked. Now I just need to work out what colours I want to paint everyone.

Cheers,

CJ
