Ecology, Conservation, Mathematics

I am an ecologist who studies how emerging ideas and technologies might be applied to conservation. The current state of global change and development puts many species at risk of extinction, but it can also bring us new opportunities to protect these species. Because these are often risky to implement or even test in the field, I use dynamical models to test potential benefits or pitfalls of these conservation strategies. More often than not, this research requires interdisciplinary collaborations, allowing abstract mathematical concepts to inform tough ecological, social, or even ethical questions.
