As noted by General Chairman Ron Baecker, Graphics Interface ’82 – the successor to the long and distinguished series of conferences presented by the Canadian Man-Computer Communications Society (CMCCS) – was a milestone in the politics of computer graphics professional meetings. GI ’82 was the first time an academic and research-oriented society (CMCCS) collaborated with an industrial and application-oriented National Computer Graphics Association of Canada (NCGA), which was founded in 1981. More than fifty papers were presented at the conference (selected out of close to 100 submissions), providing a good perspective of current research in computer graphics, user- computer interface design and interactive techniques. The conference also featured presentations from 12 invited speakers, each of whom has an international reputation in his field.
