Welcome to GRAPHIA!

GRAPHIA’s vision is to improve SSH data quality, actionability and interoperability, accelerating the integration of SSH insights into innovative, industry-driven applications. Through the creation of the first comprehensive Knowledge Graph for SSH enriched with Artificial Intelligence and Large Language Models applications, Graphia will transform SSH data into a more machine-readable and actionable format, significantly improving SSH data visualisation and analysis capacities, empowering researchers to uncover patterns and insights from unstructured data, illuminating social phenomena and cultural trends with unprecedented clarity.

This flagship platform will not only enhance data quality but also foster the development of innovative applications that will lead to significant upgrading of the technological capacities of European RIs. A key component of GRAPHIA is the SSH Citation Index, an unprecedented framework for citation data extraction and enrichment across all SSH disciplines that dramatically speeds up access and understanding of previous literature on any topic.

To achieve this ambitious goal, GRAPHIA employs a robust R&D methodology that leverages the strengths of a diverse consortium. This consortium unites five SSH initiatives (OPERAS, E-RIHS, EHRI, GGP and RESILIENCE) from the European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures (ESFRIs) with eight private entities that range from innovative SMEs to large industry associations, blending academic excellence and industrial acumen. This diversity of organisations ensures wide-ranging expertise and a deep understanding of the SSH domain, positioning GRAPHIA as a unique opportunity for a transformative collaboration between SSH RIs and European industry. Through cross-domain collaboration and innovation prototyping, GRAPHIA will navigate the challenges and opportunities presented by the rapid technological advancements in KGs, AI and LLM technologies, addressing the EU’s concerns about misinformation, ethical data use and the environmental implications of tech innovation.

GRAPHIA is funded by the European Union through the HORIZON-INFRA-2024-TECH-01 call (topic HORIZON-INFRA-2024-TECH-01-01 – R&D for the next generation of scientific instrumentation, tools, methods, solutions for RI upgrade).

Specific Objectives

GRAPHIA will work towards its goals with five specific objectives in mind:

Raising SSH RIs capacity in R&I by building a shared environment for next-generation technologies uptake.

Support transformative research addressing key societal challenges as defined in EU policies with innovative instrumentations and AI-driven data platforms.

Create a unique collaborative space between SSH RIs and Industry to foster value-added services co-creation.

Accelerating industries’ uptake of advanced technologies for social and cultural data markets.

Integrate SSH RIs into innovation ecosystems on local, regional and global levels.

This will be implemented through six work packages with the high-level architecture and methodology framework in mind:

Advisory Board

An Advisory Board (AB) will be appointed to provide support, guidance, and advice on the activities of this EU-funded research initiative. The AB will include external experts in Knowledge Graphs, AI and LLMs coming from all parts of the world to ensure a fair global representation. The AB members will provide feedback on the projects’ outputs, and help guide the preparation of the Knowledge Graph. More information will be provided once the AB is established.
