"Malinchismo" in Mexico not only means “love of the foreign”, but also implies disdain for your own culture. But as every translator and interpreter knows, the love of the foreign does not necessarily mean the disdain of your own: on the contrary, the impulse to understand another culture, to learn a different language and to love the ungraspable "Other" can also be a means to expand our understanding and love of ourselves.

"Malinchismo" in Mexico not only means “love of the foreign”, but also implies disdain for your own culture. But as every translator and interpreter knows, the love of the foreign does not necessarily mean the disdain of your own: on the contrary, the impulse to understand another culture, to learn a different language and to love the ungraspable "Other" can also be a means to expand our understanding and love of ourselves.
