Summary of Changes
Hello @westonruter, I'm Gemini Code Assist1! I'm currently reviewing this pull request and will post my feedback shortly. In the meantime, here's a summary to help you and other reviewers quickly get up to speed!
This pull request introduces automated dependency management to the repository by configuring Dependabot. This setup will ensure that the project's dependencies across GitHub Actions, npm, and Composer ecosystems are regularly checked and updated, helping to maintain security and leverage the latest features.
Highlights
- Dependabot Configuration: A new configuration file,
.github/dependabot.yml, has been added to the repository to enable and configure Dependabot. - Automated Dependency Updates: Dependabot is now configured to automatically check for and create pull requests for updates across three package ecosystems:
github-actions,npm, andcomposer. - Update Schedule and Limits: All configured dependency checks are scheduled to run weekly, with a limit of 10 open pull requests at any given time for each package ecosystem to prevent overwhelming the repository with update PRs.

Code Review
This pull request introduces a Dependabot configuration to automatically manage dependency updates for GitHub Actions, npm, and Composer. The configuration is a good starting point. I've suggested some enhancements to standardize commit messages and group dependency updates, which will improve repository maintainability and reduce pull request noise.

This is a great start for configuring Dependabot! To further improve maintainability and reduce pull request noise, I suggest a few enhancements:
-
Standardized Commit Messages: By adding a
commit-messageconfiguration, we can ensure all Dependabot commits follow a conventional format (e.g.,chore(deps): ...). This makes the commit history cleaner and more navigable. -
Grouping Updates: For
npmandcomposer, we can group development dependency updates. This is especially useful for minor and patch updates, which can be frequent. Grouping them into a single PR per week reduces the number of notifications and reviews required.
Here is a suggested configuration that incorporates these improvements.
version: 2
updates:
- package-ecosystem: github-actions

schedule:
interval: weekly
open-pull-requests-limit: 10
commit-message:
prefix: 'chore(deps)'
include: 'scope'

Summary of ChangesThis pull request establishes automated dependency management for the repository by configuring Dependabot. This crucial step will ensure that the project's dependencies, including GitHub Actions, npm packages, and Composer packages, are regularly checked and updated. My aim with this change is to significantly improve security, stability, and maintainability by keeping the codebase current with the latest versions. Highlights
